The
drug courier who told a Montana state trooper that he had just come
from Yellowstone National Park “where he was visiting Yogi Bear”
has been sentenced to more than fifteen years in federal prison for
methamphetamine trafficking. Manuel Paz Sanchez Jr., a 32-year-old
California resident, received the stiff sentence during a hearing
Thursday in U.S. District Court in Billings. Sanchez was arrested in
December 2017 after the rental car he was driving was pulled over by
a Montana Highway Patrol trooper who spotted the car tailgating
another vehicle on Interstate 90. Asked if there were any drugs,
guns, or illegal items in the rented Ford Fusion, Sanchez “denied
having anything illegal in the vehicle,” and gave suspicious
investigators permission to search the auto. Sanchez also said that
he was “coming from Yellowstone National Park where he was visiting
Yogi Bear.” A subsequent examination of the car revealed that six
vacuum-sealed plastic packages containing meth were hidden inside a
spare tire. The seized narcotics weighed 8.3 pounds. According to
federal prosecutors, Sanchez has a lengthy rap sheet that includes a
2005 conviction for possession for sale of cocaine.

A McDonald’s restaurant in Massachusetts came under fire last week for displaying Halloween decorations that included a person hanging from a tree. Customer Erik Pocock sounded the alarm last Tuesday after noticing the display while ordering food at the North Andover franchise. He described the sight to WCVB as “more like a lynching” than a Halloween decoration. Pocock initially thought the haunted tree and spiderwebs on the display were festive. But when he looked closer he witnessed the figure hanging and thought, “that’s not cute. That’s not right.” After Pocock posted a video of the decoration to Twitter, McDonald’s removed the display and issued a public apology. Franchise owner Chuck Lietz said in a statement, “We deeply regret that these decorations were on display, and as soon as we identified the inappropriate content, we immediately removed the decorations display.” (https://bit.ly/2BTEsOU)

Police
say that a 14-year-old Florida Girl walked up to a man dressed as
Donald Trump and punched him in the jaw as her friends recorded the
attack. The victim and two family members were waiting in line
outside the Naples Haunted Gross House at the Collier County
fairgrounds when he was slugged by the teenage assailant. After
punching the man, the laughing girl returned to her place in line
with several other minors, at least one of whom recorded the attack
and posted video of it to Instagram. In a written statement, the
victim told cops that, “I walked over to the girl and asked her why
she had hit me. I told her I was with my family here to have a good
time.” The man said he contacted a fairgrounds worker who then
summoned police. Cops, who noted that the teenager’s “sole
motivation was to strike ‘Trump,’” cited the girl for
misdemeanor battery. The teen, whose name was redacted from an
incident report, has been barred from returning to the fairgrounds.
