SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

According to an article published in the Harvard Business Review, workers can actually get “meeting hangovers” from attending an unhelpful meeting. A survey found that more than 90% of employees feel they’ve suffered from ‘meeting hangovers’, which are defined as “a period of diminished focus, motivation, or productivity following a bad meeting.” Steven Rogelberg, a professor at UNC Charlotte and author of “The Surprising Science of Meetings,” explained that the frustration of attending a bad – or unnecessary meeting continues to replay in workers’ heads – and they also tend to spread those negative emotions to colleagues, which also affects their co-workers’ productivity. The most-commonly reported reasons a meeting was “bad” were ‘Irrelevance’ and ‘Lack of a clear agenda or objectives’.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Millie Bobby Brown: actress and zookeeper? The “Stranger Things” star, who lives on a farm in Georgia, recently discussed her ever-growing stable of pets – and revealed she owns a whopping 62 animals. Quote: “I have 25 farm animals, and then I have 23 foster dogs, and then I have 10 dogs in my house that are my personal dogs, and 4 cats”. When asked where the “personal dogs” sleep, Brown said that they have “real single beds.” And that her husband, Jake Bongiovi, set strict rules about the animals’ sleeping quarters: “Only one is allowed in the bed.”

Adam Sandler is getting back into the swing of things in the first teaser trailer for “Happy Gilmore 2.” In it, ‘Happy’ returns to the world of pro golf, but he has some doubts about facing off against a few PGA heavyweights nearly 30 years after the events of the first film. But he returns to the golf course with confidence and all you-know-what breaks loose. Julie Bowen, Bad Bunny and Ben Stiller all have their own moments in the clip, while Christopher McDonald, Dennis Dugan and Allen Covert are set to reprise their roles. Also starring are Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi, Margaret Qualley, Benny Safdie, and Kym Whitley. Happy Gilmore 2 premieres July 25 on Netflix. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yj3rk7mm

“9-1-1: Nashville” has found its leaning man — Chris O’Donnell. The “NCIS: Los Angeles” actor has joined the ABC series as ‘Captain Don Sharpe’, who is described as “a rugged fire captain and rodeo rider who runs Nashville’s busiest firehouse with his beloved son.” While he is described as a “devoted husband and family man,” “he has his secrets,” the official description teases. O’Donnell is one of the first cast members to board “9-1-1: Nashville,” which landed a series order in February.

DID YA KNOW!?

Did you know birds in Minnesota get drunk off of berries? In October 2018, the Gilbert Minnesota Police Department issued a notice to the public warning about birds that appeared to be a little under the influence. It turns out that the airborne animals were apparently eating berries that had fermented due to early frost, which was making them feel a little less than sober!

SCOOP OF THE DAY

Some day soon, you’ll be able to eat your Ozempic – sort of. A number of companies are already offering GLP-1 supplements, which supposedly deliver the same benefits as Ozempic and Wegovy and other weight-loss drugs – without the expensive injections. And the latest might be the best. NotCo has developed its GLP Booster, a botanical powder that can be added to any food to help you eat less – and the company says it should be available by the end of the year. NotCo says GLP Booster uses natural ingredients to stimulate your body’s production of an appetite-regulating hormone, much like eating a high-fiber meal would. It’ll also be available as an ingredient for manufacturers, allowing brands to incorporate it into everyday foods like snacks, shakes and ready-to-eat meals.

The best way to reduce energy use in your household might be hanging in your backyard. New research from the University of Michigan reveals that line-drying clothes, even partially, could cut greenhouse gas emissions from drying by 41-67%, with complete line-drying eliminating them entirely. This low-tech solution often outperforms expensive technological fixes like energy-efficient dryers. The study also determined that over the lifetime of a dryer, 100% line drying could save a household more than $2,100.

No one lives forever, no one. But with advances in modern science and my high-level income, I mean, it’s not crazy to think I can’t live to 245, maybe 300.” — Ricky Bobby, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby”

WEIRD NEWS

Kraft Heinz, the famous ketchup and bologna maker, is dipping its toe into booze. The packaged-food giant is rolling out its first alcohol product for grocery stores, a new hard seltzer infused with Crystal Light, its powdered mix that is usually added to water. The “vodka refreshers” – available in lemonade and wild strawberry flavors — will make their debut this month. The new products are part of an effort to modernize the 40-year-old Crystal Light brand, and reach younger consumers. Company execs said they seized on the idea after realizing that consumers already mix Crystal Light with booze.
