According to new AI-powered research, the secret to knowing whether someone sees you as a pal or a partner isn’t in kissing or flirting — it’s all in the hug. Scientists at MSH Medical School Hamburg studied 60 participants, some friends and some lovers, and found a clear difference: On average, friends hugged for about 3 seconds, while couples’ hugs lingered for about 7. Using motion-capture cameras, researchers also measured body positioning, and discovered that distance didn’t reveal much — except for the fact that neurotic people tended to hug more loosely, while conscientious types squeezed tighter. Lead author Sebastian Ocklenburg summed it up like this: If a goodbye hug lasts less than 3 seconds, you’re probably in the friend zone; stretch it out to 7, and love may be in the air.

Taylor Frankie Paul, the “Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” star, is the next ‘Bachelorette’. In being announced as the lead for Season 22 of “The Bachelorette”, Paul admitted that she did have some reservations about taking on the assignment, as she is “a co-parent”, has “two baby daddies”, and will continue to be a part of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. Michael Caine is preparing to step back into the spotlight. The 92-year-old, who retired from Hollywood in 2023, is making his return to the silver screen alongside his bestie Vin Diesel in a sequel to their 2015 fantasy film “The Last Witch Hunter”. He’ll reprise his role as the ‘36th Dolan’. News of Caine coming out of his retirement for the project is particularly fitting because (spoiler alert for a decade-old film…) his character delayed his own retirement to fight alongside Vin Diesel’s ‘Kaulder’ in the original.
The band will be back together on “American Idol”. ABC has finally confirmed Ryan Seacrest will return as host for Season 9, the music competition series’ 24th overall. He re-joins previously announced returning judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood. Season 9 will premiere in January on ABC and Hulu. Longtime Idol host Seacrest was missing from ABC’s judges announcement in August, prompting speculation whether he’d be back. Sources said at the time that Seacrest’s deal had not closed yet, but ABC has now confirmed a deal is in place.
