SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

If you’ve ever found yourself desperately trying to evict a song from your brain – say ‘The Fate of Ophelia’ looping endlessly at 2am – you’re not alone. Earworms are common, and while there’s nothing harmful about a tune replaying in your head, it can quickly become irritating. Luckily, experts say there are ways to make it stop… One option is to tackle a mentally demanding task. Earworms tend to thrive when the brain is comfortably idle, so focusing hard on something else can crowd the song out. Other strategies include playing a different song, changing your surroundings, or even chewing gum, which some studies suggest can reduce repetition. Listening to the full song can also help. And if all else fails, try intentionally playing a terrible tune. That might wipe your musical palate clean.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to the games. The stars, known for their roles in the original “Hunger Games” films, will appear in the upcoming prequel movie “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping”. Lawrence will reprise her role as ‘Katniss Everdeen’, while Hutcherson will return as ‘Peeta Mellark’, with the pair likely appearing in a flash-forward. No more details have been disclosed. The movie is set to hit theaters next November.

“Young Sheldon” star Iain Armitage is returning to CBS – and this time, he’s all grown up. Armitage is set to guest star in an upcoming episode of the comedy “Ghosts.” According to the character description, Armitage will appear as a “heightened version of himself, taking part in a high-stakes poker game at the mansion.” The episode, which began filming this week, is scheduled to air April 16.

The cast and crew of “Friday Night Lights” is reuniting at ATX TV Festival, in Austin TX, to celebrate the show’s 20th anniversary. The event will take place from May 28-31, and is extra special because Friday Night Lights, which aired from 2006 to 2011, was filmed in Austin. In tandem with the reunion panel, the festival will honor the show with the second annual “Texas Made” Award, honoring productions and talent that have created opportunities within the state. The reunion and marquee conversation will feature actors Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton and Adrianne Palicki.

DID YA KNOW!?

Did You Know... There Are More Stars in the Universe Than Grains of Sand on All Earth’s Beaches? Astronomers estimate that there are about 70 sextillion stars in the observable universe (that’s a 7 followed by 22 zeros!). This number is far greater than the number of grains of sand on all the beaches on Earth, making the universe unfathomably vast.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

A woman was recently admitted to the hospital for surgery after doctors discovered she had a surgical blade in her stomach from a past tubectomy.

Oreo is launching a sugar-free version of its iconic cookie next month…and the announcement sparked mixed reactions online. The new “Oreo Zero Sugar” uses artificial sweeteners like sucralose and acesulfame potassium, plus sorbitol, instead of sugar, and comes in 2-cookie packs for portion control. Social media users were skeptical, joking that the ingredients sound like a “Breaking Bad” recipe or even asbestos. Others welcomed the launch, noting it could allow people with diabetes to enjoy the world’s best-selling cookie again. Nutrition experts caution that while lower in sugar, the cookies still contain carbs and calories, and can cause digestive issues if overconsumed.

WEIRD NEWS

The official 2026 New Year’s glasses have already been outed as one of the worst and most confusing designs ever. Instead of using the natural loops in the numbers, the novelty eyewear adds an unnecessary extra zero and awkwardly balances the “26” on top, leaving many people wondering exactly what year they’re supposed to be celebrating. Social media quickly piled on, with users calling the glasses baffling, ugly, and possibly AI-generated. While some previous years posed design challenges, 2026 offered no such excuse. Fans have shared sketches and edited photos showing how easily the glasses could have actually worked – and highlighting how badly this version missed the mark. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/27fpp25a
