SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

A huge new study might hold the answer to why most of us just can’t seem to hit both our exercise…and our sleep goals. Australian researchers, tracking nearly 71,000 people using wearable devices across almost 28 million days, found the link between sleep and movement isn’t linear. Activity peaked around 7 hours of sleep, not 8. And importantly, sleep efficiency mattered more than duration: people who slept soundly took hundreds more steps the next day. And needing more time to fall asleep meant fewer steps. Only 12.9% of participants met both recommended sleep and step goals, and exercise had little effect on that night’s sleep. The takeaway: improving sleep quality may be the most effective way to boost daily movement.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

“Heated Rivalry” fans won’t have to wait until Season 2 to get more of ‘Hudson Williams’ and ‘Connor Storrie’, because the 2 actors are working together on a new romance project. Quinn, the app for audio erotica, dropped a teaser Monday for a new project starring Williams and Storrie, in which they’re lending their voices for the romance series “Ember & Ice.” The Heated Rivalry stars will play “2 fae princes from feuding courts, who carry on a years-long forbidden affair that culminates in a pivotal moment at a treaty signing between their families.”

Coming off the success of “Sinners,” director Ryan Coogler is prepping a reboot of “The X-Files” that he teased ages ago. Casting is now reportedly underway, and Danielle Deadwyler is said to be in talks to play one of 2 lead investigators. Details are scarce, but we do know that Chris Carter, the original creator of the alien-hunting classic, has said that Coogler plans to bring in a more diverse cast. When asked whether David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who played ‘Mulder’ and ‘Scully’ in the original series, might return for his reboot, Coogler neither confirmed nor denied their participation, but said the new series will have a similar structure to the original.

DID YA KNOW!?

DID YOU KNOW… Venus flytraps can count. The plant closes only after its trigger hairs are touched multiple times, helping it avoid wasting energy on non-prey like raindrops. It even counts the number of touches to determine how much digestive enzyme to release.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

The Consumer Electronics Show is known for bold concepts, and Smartlet may be one of the most unusual. Unveiled at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, the Paris-based startup’s modular watch strap lets users wear a traditional mechanical watch AND a smartwatch on the same wrist at the same time: one on top, the other underneath. Designed for people who love rocking a fancy watch, but also want modern features like fitness tracking and notifications, the clever but bulky stainless-steel band starts at $418 and includes just the strap. It’s compatible with major smartwatches and luxury analog brands. LINK: https://www.smartlet.io/

WEIRD NEWS

In what just might be the latest iteration of the “sharing economy”, people are now renting out their…clothing. Peer-to-peer clothing rental apps are turning personal wardrobes into income streams, reflecting both shifting consumer habits and the economic pressure on young adults. Platforms in the US such as Pickle, launched in 2022, allow users to rent out their own clothes and accessories (handbags, etc.) without subscriptions, unlike traditional services such as Rent the Runway. The app lists more than 230,000 items across 2,000 brands, from luxury labels like Chanel to mid-priced fashion. Top lenders can earn thousands monthly, while renters gain short-term access to high-end pieces at a fraction of retail prices. Advocates say the model supports sustainability and curbs overconsumption, even as demand for luxury remains strong.
