SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

The average man feels 67% more confident when wearing their best suit or tuxedo. A poll found that when well-dressed, men feel their self-esteem gets a solid boost. But on the other hand, their selection of clothing for different wedding dress codes could use some improvement. 53% were able to correctly identify “black tie” attire. Just 41% were able to correctly identify “white tie” — and a dismal 17% correctly picked out cocktail attire.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

“The Last of Us” has been renewed by HBO for a third season. While the first season adapted the acclaimed 2013 Sony PlayStation game of the same title, the game’s sequel, 2020’s “The Last of Us Part II,” is so massive that creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann always planned to split its events into multiple seasons. In an interview about the 7-episode Season 2, Mazin said that he felt the series has “one or 2 more seasons” before reaching the end of “Part II.” According to him: “It’s getting harder to make, because every episode gets big.”

New films from Wes Anderson, Richard Linklater and the Dardenne brothers will premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. Anderson will be back with “The Phoenician Scheme,” which premiered a baffling trailer at CinemaCon. Linklater is heading to France with “Nouvelle Vague,” about Jean-Luc Godard and the filming of “Breathless” in the 1960s. The Dardenne brothers have “Young Mothers,” which gives them a chance to become the first filmmakers to win the Palme d’Or 3 times. Actors in the festival making their directorial debuts include Scarlett Johansson with “Eleanor the Great,” and Harris Dickinson, with “Urchin.” Spike Lee has said his film “Highest 2 Lowest” starring Denzel Washington will premiere out of competition in Cannes, but that was not part of the official announcement.

DID YA KNOW!?

Did you know there was a prehistoric dragonfly that's wings spanned more than two feet? More than 300 million years ago, the Meganeura was considered the largest insect on Earth. The dragonfly-like creature had a wingspan that stretched around 2.5 feet!

SCOOP OF THE DAY

It’s always a big deal when a new style of Twinkies is announced (at least among a certain group of people). And to those people, this is your day! Hostess has announced that for the first time ever, Twinkies snack cakes will be available in the form of a candy bar. The new treat features a smooth candy shell packed with the traditional Twinkie creamy filling. While no release date has been announced, someone posted on social media that they recently found them on the shelf at a Family Dollar store, and wrote: “They’re far better than they have any right to be.” LINK: https://shorturl.at/i2rWJ

The restaurant that brought you footlong cookies and dippers has done it again. Subway is adding footlong nachos to its menu. The chain is partnering with Doritos to sell footlong nachos for $5, the latest addition to its popular Sidekicks menu. The new dish uses nacho cheese-flavored Doritos chips, topped with cheddar cheese, jalapeno slices, diced tomatoes, red onions and drizzled with a chipotle sauce, served in a 12-inch-long cardboard tray. Options include chicken, steak and avocado.

WEIRD NEWS

Pizza Hut has released a new menu item that’s even more “out-of-the-box” than that time they sold tomato wine. It’s the first-ever Pizza Caviar. And instead of simply throwing caviar, which seems to be having a moment right now, onto a pizza, The Hut has reimagined the “caviar bump” altogether. Apparently, the Pizza Caviar…tastes like pepperoni. Instead of fish, the pearls have a bold, smoky pepperoni flavor, perfect for adorning any Pizza Hut menu items. The pearls are made from pepperoni-flavored water coated in gelatin-like agar-agar. But alas (or thankfully…) Pizza Hut’s new Pizza Caviar was only available yesterday at one New York City restaurant…at least for now. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/y2kx7wnr
