SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Doing the right thing for the environment often requires extra work. Biking or walking to the store, for example, is less carbon intensive than driving. But that’s not the case when it comes to one of the most-dreaded of household chores: washing dishes. Researchers at the University of Michigan compared cleaning dishes in the sink with multiple hand-washing methods. It found that in most cases, the dishwasher is more efficient than hand-washing. How so? Dishwashers re-use water by spraying it at your dishes repeatedly. Dishwashers were found not only to use half the greenhouse gas emissions, and less than half the water that hand-washing does, they also kill more bacteria.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

The stars of “The Paper” are sharing what “The Office” fans can expect from their spinoff. During NBCUniversal’s Upfront, Oscar Nuñez, Domhnall Gleeson, and Sabrina Impacciatore screened a short clip from the series. The mockumentary, created by Office showrunner Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, sees the camera crew who memorialized the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company turn their attention to a failing Midwestern newspaper called “The Truth Teller”, where ‘Oscar Nuñez’ now works. And while their involvement in the project hasn’t been officially confirmed, fellow Office alum star Angela Kinsey confirmed last month that she had visited the show’s set with co-star Jenna Fischer.

Jude Law and Andrew Garfield are set to executive produce and play Las Vegas showman-magicians Siegfried and Roy in the new limited series “Wild Things”. Based on the Apple original podcast “Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy”, the 8-episode series “tells the wild ride relationship tale of 2 of the greatest showman-magicians in history who, along with their white tigers, are tasked with turning Sin City into a family-friendly destination”. The logline also says: “The duo pushes the concept of illusion versus reality to the extreme, personally and professionally, until tragedy …opens a mystery surrounding their last fateful Las Vegas show.”

Gary Sinise might be retiring from acting — for good. The “Forest Gump” actor has been through a lot in his personal life after losing his son, Mac, to cancer in 2024. He said to People: “Something may come along and it’ll be right”, but these days, he prefers to be around his family, and “Since losing Mac, I hold my daughters a lot tighter. You think about the things that are really important.”

DID YA KNOW!?

Identical twins don’t have the same fingerprints. You can’t blame your crimes on your twin, after all. This is because environmental factors during development in the womb (umbilical cord length, position in the womb, and the rate of finger growth) impact your fingerprint.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

An unruly Southwest Airlines passenger urinated, then defecated in a seat during a Chicago-bound flight.

A woman was denied boarding a Frontier Airlines flight with her “emotional support” parrot.

If you love Nutella, you’re probably of the belief that nothing tastes better. And that may indeed have been the case — until now. For the first time in over 60 years, Nutella is dropping a brand-new flavor: Nutella Peanut. Parent company Ferrero says the new flavor “combines the distinctive creaminess of Nutella cocoa hazelnut spread with the delicious taste of roasted peanuts”, but it is “definitely” not peanut butter. Let’s just say it tastes like classic Nutella, but with a nutty twist. It’s set for launch in the US next spring.

WEIRD NEWS

A traffic camera in a Swiss town was triggered by a speed-limit-breaking duck – 7 years to the day after the same thing happened in the same spot — at the exact same speed. The Municipality of Koeniz said on social media that the speed camera was triggered April 13, and captured an image of a male duck traveling at 32mph in a 12mph zone. A similar-looking duck triggered the same camera on April 13, 2018, at the same speed. Officials speculated the 2 photos could show the same bird returning to the scene of his original traffic crime for a repeat offense.
