THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

I’ve been talking to someone for several months. We’ve hung out a lot and text almost every day. I have jokingly brought up that we should start dating because we practically are anyway, but he said, “I couldn’t because I don’t want to risk our friendship.” I feel silly asking this, but I haven’t ever had a serious relationship, so what does this mean? Does this mean they never want to date, they don’t want to date me, or don’t want to date now? I really like this guy, but am I wasting my time on something I’ll never get?

Signed – Kinda Confused

UPDATE FROM MOTHER'S DAY
Well John and Heidi-

I’d like to give you an update from the weekend. So. I took the audio file and showed it to both our mothers to hear. They thought it was pretty cool. Then Friday after work I picked up my oldest daughter, as she lives local. We stopped at the store and picked up a few things. I couldn’t recall what flowers my wife had pointed out last week. So we picked out some roses and got them. We also dug through a bin of coke bottled to find one that had her name on it. And she likes wine so we picked up a few bottles for her to try out. We had a busy weekend with a graduation and I had a re-certification class Sunday so Saturday afternoon my daughter and I set the gifts up in my wife's car and we were able to FaceTime my youngest children so they could see as well. All in all. It went well. You two saved the day again. - Thanks

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Believing in Satan and Hell stresses us out. A new study published in PLOS ONE suggests that those who believe in spooky stuff like the devil and witchcraft tend to feel more stressed out and less able to cope with life’s curveballs. Perhaps surprisingly, though, if you’re into crystals, psychic powers, or predicting the future, your stress levels probably aren’t affected at all. The researchers said that traditional supernatural beliefs are linked to a feeling that you’re not in control of your own life. And people who believe in concepts like hell, witchcraft, and devilish forces tend to see the world as controlled by powers beyond their reach.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

The CW has renewed “Scrabble” for a 30-episode second season — and has recruited Craig Ferguson to take over as host. The Former “Late Late Show” host said: “I’m cock-a-hoop to be hosting Scrabble. I’ve wanted to do this show ever since I found out the letters of my name can be used to spell Cougar Fingers.” Ferguson is a New York Times bestselling author who has recorded numerous standup specials for Netflix, Epix, Comedy Central and Amazon. “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” ran on CBS for 10 years and remains a cult favorite on YouTube.

The next era of “Sesame Street” streaming rights are here, with the beloved kids’ series heading to PBS Kids and Netflix. New episodes of “Sesame Street”, as well as library episodes, will be available to watch on Netflix worldwide, and new episodes will release the same day on both PBS stations and PBS Kids. As part of the deal, Netflix will also be able to develop video games for both “Sesame Street” and “Sesame Street Mecha Builders.”

Mariska Hargitay’s new documentary, “My Mom Jayne,” doesn’t just explore the life of her famous mom, Jayne Mansfield. The film, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, also reveals the real identity of her biological father. For the first time, the “Law & Order: SVU” actress has revealed that her father is not actually bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay. 36 years ago, she found out her biological dad is a retired Las Vegas showman named Nelson Sardelli. Of learning this, she says: “It was like the floor fell out from underneath me”, and she was “living a lie” for decades. Mansfield had a brief affair with Sardelli, who is now 90, before reconciling with Mickey, whom she divorced in 1964.

DID YA KNOW!?

Animals can experience time differently from humans. To smaller animals, the world around them moves more slowly compared to humans. Salamanders and lizards, for example, experience time more slowly than cats and dogs. This is because the perception of time depends on how quickly the brain can process incoming information.

JOKE OF THE DAY

SCOOP OF THE DAY

A study found that 93% of us have never touched a vehicle charging station.

That 2…or 3…or 4 hundred bucks you plan to fork out this summer to see one of your fav singers in concert isn’t just expensive – it might be highway robbery, once you break it down on a song-by-song basis. With the price of the concert experience going up year after year, and shows sometimes lasting a scant 90 minutes, new stats from GigaCalculator determined just how much fans are really paying per song on 2025’s biggest tours—and the results are enough to make one think twice before clicking that “Confirm purchase” button. Lana Del Rey tops the list, charging over $16 per song during her short 15-track sets, while Lady Gaga and Beyoncé aren’t far behind. Gaga gives you more time on stage, but you’ll still pay about $14 per song. Bey’s massive 36-song shows will set you back a hefty $13.63 per tune. If you’re looking for the best bang for your buck, artists like Usher ($3.76 per song), Drake ($4.66), and Ed Sheeran ($4.79) are the way to go. By the way, Oasis is the outright winner of the 2025 revenue race, earning nearly $17 million a night.

WEIRD NEWS

Kermit the Frog was the featured commencement speaker the University of Maryland’s 2026 graduation ceremony. Kermit, of course, is the brainchild of Jim Henson, the late “Muppets” mastermind and former voice of Kermit, and a Maryland alumnus. There’s even a statue of him on campus, depicting him in conversation with Kermit. In a statement, the frog said: “Nothing could make these feet happier than to speak at the University of Maryland. I just know the class of 2025 is going to leap into the world and make it a better place, so if a few encouraging words from a frog can help, then I’ll be there!” Kermie delivered his speech on May 21.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

In a survey where people were asked to name something in their house that doesn’t work, THIS came in at #1. What is it?

Answer: The ice maker in the fridge

THE LIST

2025 SUMMER BLOCKBUSTERS:

Summer blockbuster season will officially begin with this Friday’s release of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning”. Here are the 10 movies coming to theaters this summer that are vying to be “THE” blockbuster of the year, à la “Jaws” or “E.T.” or “Independence Day”, etc…

✪ “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” (May 23): It will follow on from the evil A.I./missing submarine storyline introduced in “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One”. The title seems to suggest that this will be the final Mission: Impossible film (or at least the last one featuring Tom Cruise as ‘Ethan Hunt’…)

✪ “28 Years Later” (June 20): The third installment takes place 28 years after the Rage Virus escaped a research lab, where survivors have found ways to exist amidst the infected. When a father and his son leave the island on a mission, they discover secrets, wonders, and horrors of the outside world.

✪ “F1” (June 27): Brad Pitt plays a washed-up Formula One driver coming out of retirement to mentor an up-and-coming rookie. “Top Gun: Maverick’s” Joseph Kosinski directs.

✪ “Jurassic World Rebirth (July 2): Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali lead the cast, and “Godzilla’s” Gareth Edwards is in the director’s chair. Original Jurassic Park writer David Koepp handled the script.

✪ “Superman” (July 11): This reboot of the franchise was written and directed by James Gunn and stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel. Rather than rehashing the character’s familiar origin story, it sees ‘Clark Kent’ trying to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his adoptive upbringing in Smallville, Kansas.

✪ “The Smurfs Movie (July 18): Rihanna leads a star-studded voice cast in the role of ‘Smurfette’. She also produced the film – and recorded the songs. “Puss in Boots” director Chris Miller and “South Park” writer Pam Brady are also aboard.

✪ “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” (July 25): Set in a retro-futuristic, ‘60s-inspired world, it sees the superhero team struggling to defend Earth from ‘Galactus’ and his herald, the ‘Silver Surfer’. It stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

✪ “The Naked Gun” (Aug. 1): In this reboot, Liam Neeson takes over the starring role from Leslie Nielsen as ‘Frank Drebin, Jr.’ (presumably the son of the original ‘Frank Drebin’). Pamela Anderson plays his love interest. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but, really, we’ll only be there for the farcical elements.

✪ “Freakier Friday” (Aug. 8): More than 20 years after the original, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis have reunited for a “Freaky Friday” sequel. We’ll see ‘Anna Coleman’, now a mother herself, once again switching bodies with her mother, ‘Tess’.

✪ “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (July 18): A group of friends is terrorized by a stalker who knows about a gruesome incident from their past. This sequel comes 27 years after the second installment in the trilogy “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer”, featuring some characters from the original films.
