SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

More and more parents are letting their kids take the reins when it comes to planning family vacations—and it’s paying off. A recent survey of 2,000 American parents found that 22% have allowed their children to plan the entire trip. The result? Happier families. In fact, 82% of parents reported their best vacations occurred when their kids had a say in the planning process. When children are involved, parents usually have them help plan activities (89%) and restaurants (54%). And kids love being involved, with 86% wanting to give more input and 53% expressing a desire to plan most of the vacation. Their dream trips often include meeting celebrities, visiting amusement parks, attending concerts, and enjoying beach days. While some children want to plan epic journeys across multiple states and countries, 40% prefer to explore destinations within their own country, favoring places like Florida, California, and Hawaii. And apparently, parents are embracing their children’s creativity: 84% said they are drawing inspiration from their kids’ ideas — and 88% are planning to bring some of those dream trips to life. By involving kids in the planning process, families feel they’re creating more memorable and enjoyable vacations for everyone.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Tom Felton is venturing back to Hogwarts. He’ll reprise his role as the platinum blonde villain ‘Draco Malfoy’ in “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” on Broadway. He will join the show on Nov. 11 for 19 weeks. This marks Felton’s Broadway debut. It’s also the first time an original “Harry Potter” cast member has joined the stage production of “Cursed Child.” It takes place 19 years after the final Harry Potter novel. In the story, Draco — as well as ‘Harry’, ‘Ron’ and ‘Hermione’ — are grown up and sending their own children off to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

An Austrian newspaper has come under fire after Clint Eastwood said an alleged interview with him published by the paper to mark his 95th birthday was “entirely phony”. In the interview, which was picked up widely by North American media, Eastwood criticizes a lack of fresh ideas in the film industry, saying “we live in an era of remakes and franchises.” In a statement, Eastwood said: “I can confirm I’ve turned 95. I can also confirm that I never gave an interview to an Austrian publication called Kurier, or any other writer in recent weeks, and that the interview is entirely phony.”

Russell Crowe, Jacob Tremblay, Shailene Woodley and Annabelle Wallis have signed on to star in “Unabom”, a new thriller on domestic terrorist Ted Kaczynski, to be directed for Netflix by Janus Metz. The pic follows Kaczynski (played by Tremblay)’s transformation from Harvard prodigy into the infamous Unabomber, who carried out a nationwide bombing campaign in the U.S. from 1978-95, killing 3 people and injuring 23.

DID YA KNOW!?

While we’ve been going all-in on fad diets and weight-loss drugs, a company in Japan has developed “a fizzy drink that morphs into jelly once it hits your stomach, making you feel full without piling on calories.” The drink, named “In Tansan”, uses a chemical reaction with your stomach acid to solidify into a jelly-like blob that traps carbonation — and fills you up. A news outlet reported that the drink keeps hunger away for about 2 hours. The texture is said to be “a little strange, like a slippery liquid with a jelly twist”.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

A survey says that 16% of people of say they have been known to ask for a doggy treat when they go through the drive-thru.

When it comes to hiring, Indeed CEO Chris Hyams isn’t into asking the usual interview questions. Instead, he’s been asking one simple thing for the past 15 years: “Apple or Android?” It might sound like a casual icebreaker, but it’s actually his way of digging deeper. For him, it’s not about picking the “right” answer (or even the right phone, for that matter) — it’s about how job candidates think, explain their choices, and share a bit about themselves in the process. After asking the “Apple or Android” questions, Hyams says what follows is usually a 15-minute conversation that gives him insight into how people make decisions. By the way, most candidates say iPhone, often because they were put on a family plan while in high school. Others talk about the apps they love — or even what they’d change about the platforms — and that’s where he says it gets interesting. For Hyams, it’s not just about phones. It’s about curiosity, adaptability, and how someone thinks through long-term choices. So remember that next time you’re meeting a potential employer, and they start with what at first seems like a casual, off the cuff question.

WEIRD NEWS

Tinder is testing a “height filter” that lets users set minimum and maximum height preferences for matches—but only if you’re a Platinum subscriber. The new height option popped up on Reddit and other forums, and appears in the Discovery section of the app. While Tinder has always let users filter by age, orientation, and distance, this marks a new level of customization—for a price. The premium tier starts at $39.99/month and also includes perks like priority likes, an interest filter, and the ability to message before matching. Tinder says it’s all part of helping people “connect more intentionally,” and stresses that this height filter is just a test, not a permanent change. It is supposedly meant to give users more control, without fully blocking out potential matches. But the move has sparked debate about at what point “intentional” starts to become “superficial.”

QUESTION OF THE DAY
