SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
New research shows the connection between exercise and mental health isn’t as simple as we thought. Yes, hitting the gym or playing sports in your free time is often linked to less anxiety and depression — but doing chores or physical labor for work doesn’t seem to offer the same benefits, and in some cases, it might even make things worse. The study, published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, concluded that while exercise can be good for your mental health, it’s not a cure-all. And other factors related to exercise, such as group settings and supportive programs, play a huge role in whether exercise helps.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
It’s not a bird or a plane — it’s the latest ‘Superman’ movie, which soared towards the top of the box office. Warner Bros. Pictures’ “Superman”, based on the 1938 comic book character, which began as a film series in 1978, grossed a projected nearly $125 million domestically for the weekend. Early estimates had the James Gunn-directed movie earning around $90 million, but the movie was well-received by audiences and critics, with an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes and 95% on the site’s Popcornmeter, boosting the opening forecast over the course of the weekend.
Bryan Cranston has made his position clear regarding the ongoing funding challenges facing indie movie “Lone Wolf.” The “Breaking Bad” star said he won’t return to finish filming or promote the feature until all cast and crew that are owed money are paid back in full. A “distressed” Cranston, who himself has been paid for his work to date, said he has spoken to multiple co-stars who are still owed money.
After 40 years, 3 cancellations, and a ton of drama, the cast and crew of the Amazon Prime soap opera “Neighbours” have wrapped production for what appears to be the last time. The showrunner encourages fans to stay tuned, because while the show may be ending, quote: “We have a big 5 months of Neighbours still to air. We absolutely are not slowing down story-wise.” The final episode, number 9,363, is set to stream on December 11.
Nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmys were announced by Harvey Guillén, Brenda Song and Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego yesterday. Apple TV+’s office enigma “Severance” earned the most nominations, while the streamer’s Hollywood satire “The Studio” topped the comedy categories with 23. HBO Max’s dark comic book limited series “The Penguin,” and its biting vacation anthology “The White Lotus” earned 23 and 24 nominations, respectively. Rounding out the front-runners are HBO Max’s post-apocalyptic drama “The Last of Us” and the Disney+ “Star Wars” saga “Andor,” with 16 and 14 nods each.
DID YA KNOW!?
Football players spit so much because exercise increases the amount of protein in saliva. When you exercise, the amount of protein secreted into the saliva increases. A protein mucus named MUC5B makes your saliva thicker when you're exercising which makes it more difficult to swallow so we tend to spit more. It may occur during exercise because we breathe through our mouths more. MUC5B could activate to stop our mouths from drying out, therefore.

OF THE DAY
A study found that people with multiple phobias are more likely to have health problems.
If you’re a dog owner, chances are your pup calls the shots more than you do. A new survey of 2,000 dog parents found they make about 27 decisions a month based on their dog — from vacation plans to where (and whether) they work. Most admit they cancel social plans about 4 times a month, and cut other plans short even more often. And if you’re part of the (ahem!) “DINKWAD” crew (Double Income, No Kids, With A Dog), the obsession runs even deeper. Nearly three-quarters admit their life basically revolves around their pet, and over half skip events just because their dog looks too cuddly to leave. Many even spend more money on treats, food, and fancy extras — like personalized blankets and dog furniture — than they spend on themselves. Birthday paw-ties and beach days? Yep, those too.

WEIRD NEWS
Tinder is evolving beyond one-on-one swipes. The dating app has announced a new “Double Date” feature that pairs up friends, so they can match and mingle with other duos. Currently rolling out across the US, Double Date lets users team up with up to THREE friends to browse profiles of other duos. Once 2 people from opposing pairs swipe right, a group chat opens instantly, where potentially, plans for a double-date could be arranged. This all happens in a dedicated section of the app. There, friends can form pairs and view side-by-side profiles, complete with photos and bios. The reaction? By the looks of things, a mixture of amusement and confusion. One person posted: “@Tinder how am I supposed to double date when I can’t even get a single date.” And others joked that the feature was developed so one person could go on a date with 2 people at the same time.

THE LIST
SONGS THAT WERE ALMOST RECORDED BY OTHER ARTISTS:
These artists passed on recording them – so the song ended up in the right hands – and the right voice…
✗ ‘Umbrella’ – It was originally pitched to Britney Spears, but was rejected. So, Rihanna took it to the top of the charts, and the rest is history (or, more accurately, a novella, ella, ella…)
✗ ’Rock Your Body’ — Michael Jackson passed on this Neptunes bop, leaving Justin Timberlake to claim it for his solo debut.
✗ ‘Happy’ – CeeLo Green recorded it, but his label shelved it in favor of a Christmas album. Pharrell Williams gave it a shot, and before we knew what was happening, everyone was clapping along if they felt like a room without a roof…
✗ ‘I’m a Slave 4 U’ – After Janet Jackson passed on it, Britney Spears slithered in and delivered one of her most iconic reinventions.
✗ ‘Don’t Cha’ – Before it became the ultimate “shoulda woulda coulda” anthem, it was offered up to Tori Alamaze and even Paris Hilton. But it took the Pussycat Dolls to make it purr.
✗ ‘Since U Been Gone’ – P!nk said no. Hilary Duff couldn’t hit the notes. But Kelly Clarkson turned it into the scream-along anthem of the decade.
✗ ‘Whataya Want from Me’ — P!nk helped write it, recorded a demo, and then passed. Adam Lambert ran with it—eyeliner, octave leaps, and all.
✗ ‘Call Me’ – It was pitched to everyone from the Rolling Stones (if you could imagine…) to Stevie Nicks. Blondie rewrote the lyrics, and made it their own.
✗ ‘…Baby One More Time’ — TLC thought the lyrics were too…uh…punchy. Robyn declined too. Britney took it, and made it a “hit”.
✗ ‘Irreplaceable’ — Ne-Yo originally imagined it as a country tune, possibly for Shania Twain. Instead, Beyoncé did it — and showed us all how to pack up our boxes to the left.
✗ ‘Telephone’ – It was written by Lady Gaga for Britney Spears, who actually recorded a version, but never released it. Instead, Gaga rang up Beyoncé, and their “phone collab” became a hit.
✗ ‘Let’s Get Loud’ — Gloria Estefan co-wrote it but thought it was too much like her past work. J.Lo turned up the salsa – and created dancefloor dynamite.
✗ ‘All About That Bass’ — Meghan Trainor wrote it and offered it to Beyoncé and Adele, who both passed. So, she sang it herself, and scored a pop hit with a body-positive punch.
✗ ‘Boom Clap’ – It was meant for Hilary Duff’s comeback album, but her team declined. Charli XCX took it to the silver screen via “The Fault in Our Stars”, and to the top 10.
