SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Great news! A new study says you can stuff your face and not worry about gaining weight – if you follow one simple rule. Or at least that’s the way I’m interpreting it! Researchers in Spain found that mice who ate a super high-fat diet didn’t gain weight, as long as they followed an intermittent fasting routine. Basically, they binged for 1 or 2 days, then fasted for a day — and still saw weight control benefits, even without cutting calories. The lead researcher says this could be a game-changer for people struggling with strict diets. Early results suggest you might not even need full-day fasts — just limiting your eating to certain hours (like 12–16 hours of fasting per day) might be enough to see improvements. The mice also had better blood sugar and cholesterol levels, showing fasting could help more than just your waistline.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

“Shark Tank” Season 17 has set an all-star lineup of guest Sharks. Season 17 guest Sharks include: Allison Ellsworth, Chip and Joanna Gaines, Alexis Ohanian, Kendra Scott, Michael Strahan, Fawn Weaver, and Rashaun Williams. All will appear alongside returning Sharks Barbara Corcoran, Lori Greiner, Robert Herjavec, Daymond John, Daniel Lubetzky, and Kevin O’Leary. Daytime Emmy-winning newsmagazine show “Extra” has let go a number of staffers ahead of its forthcoming 32nd season. The decision is a result of an annual cataloguing that assesses staff structure and production processes and was not performance-based. It’s unclear how many workers were laid off. The news comes 2 months after host Billy Bush announced he will not be returning to the long-running syndicated entertainment news series.

India’s film certification board is facing sharp criticism for censoring a kiss between ‘Superman’ and ‘Lois Lane’ in the theatrical release of James Gunn’s new film. The 33-second scene was removed entirely from the film shown in Indian cinemas by the Central Board of Film Certification, which reportedly deemed it “overly sensual” for the U/A certificate, a rating roughly equivalent to PG-13.

Sydney Sweeney might be stepping into the world of fashion — with a reported lingerie line backed by none other than Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez. US Weekly says the “Euphoria” star has been working on the lingerie project for over a year, and it is finally set to launch “very soon.” A source says that that Bezos and Sánchez are not just offering their financial support, but are actively involved as investors in the venture. In 2023, she partnered with Frankies Bikinis to release a swimwear collection.

ROME-ANTIC TIPS FROM THE PAST:

Love has always been messy — and the ancient Greeks and Romans had plenty to say about it. Turns out, their dating struggles weren’t so different from ours. The Roman poet Ovid (43 BCE–17 CE), in “The Art of Love”, dished out surprisingly modern tips for finding a partner:

Don’t sit around waiting — go out and look.

Try public places: gardens, theaters… even near courthouses.

Make eye contact, then find a reason to strike up a conversation.

Meet by day — not drunk, not in the dark

Stay clean and fresh: trim nails, no nose hairs, and definitely no bad breath.

Meanwhile, Xenophon warned warned that even then, matchmakers could be shady. Aelian claimed Spartans fined attractive men who didn’t fall in love — because love made people braver. And in the ultimate ancient burn, Martial mocked his ex by comparing her kisses to dog poop. Clearly, love’s a battlefield — in every century.

Just when you thought you had bought every toy and treat that your dog could possibly have, comes this: Dog nutrition and wellness brand Spot & Tango has announced the launch of “PupGum”. You guessed it – it’s chewing gum for your dog. The company calls it the first and only dental chew for dogs made with a postbiotic that supposedly reduces bad breath in 7 days. And while, strictly speaking, Pupgum is not chewing gum, but rather “Dog Breath Chews”, Spot & Tango claims it “disrupts oral biofilms by 98%…preventing plaque from adhering to teeth.”, and “neutralizes 50% of the volatile sulfur compounds responsible for bad dog breath.” LINK: https://pupgum.com/
