SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
If you dread Mondays, you’re definitely not alone. And a new study out of Hong Kong has confirmed what many already knew: Monday stress hits harder — and it sticks around. Researchers tracked over 3,500 adults and found that those who reported anxiety specifically on Mondays had 23% more cortisol (the stress hormone) in their system, even months later. That spike showed up even in retirees, suggesting our bodies might carry a kind of “Monday imprint.” Experts say it’s not just the job grind. It seems the shift from weekend freedom to weekday structure throws off our internal clocks. You’re going from “sleep in and snack” to “get up, get dressed, deal with traffic.” And that jolt can trigger a stress response that builds up over time – which is linked to health issues like heart disease. How to fight it? Experts suggest trying a weekly “stress inventory” – a way of spotting what you’re dreading before your body kicks into fight-or-flight mode.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Yes, “Superman” does have a post-credits scene. Two, in fact. One shows up around the mid-credits and the second at the very end. They don’t exactly tease anything or set up future DC projects, and that’s how writer, director, and studio head James Gunn wanted it. He likened the post-credits scene to the “Howard the Duck” reveal at the end of the first “Guardians of the Galaxy”, something that was purely fun for the audience. But, he said that’s not to say future DCU projects won’t have post-credits scenes that more directly set up other movies or shows, if “it really, really works.”
“Jaws” icon Richard Dreyfuss was forced to drop out of SharkCon in Tampa FL, after being diagnosed with viral bronchitis. He delivered the news in a video post shared to the SharkCon Instagram on Saturday. Dreyfuss starred in Steven Spielberg’s 1975 horror masterpiece alongside Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw. In “Jaws,” the Oscar-winner played ‘Matt Hooper’, a wisecracking oceanologist and shark expert tasked with helping ‘Chief Brody’ track down the man-eater.
HBO has started production on its “Harry Potter” TV series and added to its cast — and we have the first photo of young Dominic McLaughlin in costume as Harry Potter. The production announced these castmembers playing key roles: Rory Wilmot as ‘Neville Longbottom’, Amos Kitson as ‘Dudley Dursley’, Louise Brealey as ‘Madam Rolanda Hooch’, and Anton Lesser as ‘Garrick Ollivander’. The show has begun filming at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, U.K. HBO’s plan is to adapt each of J.K. Rowling’s best-selling novels into a season of television. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/vddth5t8
“Harry Potter” actress Emma Watson has been banned from driving for 6 months after she was caught speeding in her Audi S3. In addition to the license suspension, she was also fined £1,044 ($1,400 US). It was Watson’s 4th driving offense in less than 2 years, according to the Daily Mail. She received 3 points on her license for the July 2024 speeding offense, in addition to 9 points from other driving offenses in 2023 and 2024.

You remember more dreams when you sleep badly. Research suggests that if you sleep badly and wake up multiple times throughout the night you will be more likely to recall the content of any dreams you had. You are also more likely to remember a dream when woken from one.

FAKE FACTS YOU MAY HAVE BELIEVED AS A CHILD (OR STILL DO…):
BuzzFeed recently put together a collection of social media posts from people who posted the so-called “facts” or things they were led to believe as children that turned out to be less than true. Here are some of the best (or most familiar) ones…
☞ did anyone else use to believe that gum would stay in your stomach for 7 years if you swallowed it? Pls say yes or I’ll feel weird
☞ Spontaneous combustion is not nearly as big of a public health issue as I thought it was as a kid.
☞ Why did my mom make me think it was illegal to turn a light on in the car while we were driving throughout my whole childhood
☞ when I was younger I thought all dogs were boys and all cats were girls
☞ when I was a kid, I thought that the world used to be black & white until someone invented colors.
☞ Please tell me I’m not the only one that though the moon was following me when travelling at night?
☞ question for 80s babies: did y’all have an irrational fear of quicksand? Why was it in so many television shows? Where can one even find quicksand?

WEIRD NEWS
Making exaggerated faces in the mirror might seem silly—but welcome to the world of face yoga. Thanks in no small part to TikTok, face yoga has become one of the most discussed above-the-neck sculpting techniques. Instead of downward dogs, think duckfaces and lion’s breath. The idea? Working out your facial muscles can lift, tone, and reduce puffiness without creams, needles, or filters. Some people swear by it, and a 2018 study even saw improved cheek fullness after 20 weeks of daily exercises. Dermatologists explain that strengthening facial muscles could help support fat pads that naturally shift with age—potentially restoring a bit of that youthful shape. Other perks? Experts say that Face Yoga can result in better blood flow, less puffiness — and even stress relief. One instructor calls it “mindfulness for your face”. Is it a full-on facelift alternative? Not quite. But it’s low-risk, free, and might help you feel more connected to the face you’re in. Just go easy on the under-eye area!

THE LIST
The most-used new emoji. (And yes, ‘emoji’ is the plural of ‘emoji’!) Last year, a total of 8 new emoji were approved by Unicode as part of Emoji 16.0, and put into use shortly thereafter. They are: Face with Bags Under Eyes, Fingerprint, Splatter, Root Vegetable, Leafless Tree, Harp, Shovel, and the Flag of Sark. According to Emojipedia’s site data, the most popular of these 8 new emoji are as follows:
1st place: Face with Bags Under Eyes
2nd place: Splatter
3rd place: Shovel
Meanwhile, Emojipedia says these are the most-used emoji overall, as of this month, in order:
1. Red heart
2. Checkmark
3. Sparkles
4. Fire
5. Loudly Crying Face (the one with tears flowing down its cheeks).
And by the way, anyone can submit an idea for a new emoji. The Unicode Standard, which is responsible for creating new emoji, proposed 9 new ones in November, including a Sasquatch and an orca. Unicode will decide in September which emoji to add next. To submit your idea, go here: https://unicode.org/emoji/proposals.html
