SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

What bugs you most about your vehicle? If it is fairly new, there’s a good chance that your biggest beef with your ship is…the cup holder? Nearly 100,000 drivers of 2025 model cars were asked by J.D. Power about their new car experience, and one of the biggest complaints wasn’t a glitchy touchscreen or annoying speed-warning chimes — it was cup holders. Seriously. “Cup-holder frustration” is on the rise, as carmakers struggle to keep up with the wild variety of bottles, tumblers, and drive-thru sodas that people bring along. Despite all the high-tech features, like adaptive cruise control, ambient lighting, even dog-friendly modes, what really gets people talking is whether there’s enough room for their drink. Cup-holder difficulties ranked third among respondents’ concerns, up from 7th last year. The top complaint was issues with the Infotainment System.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Ariana Grande and Josh Gad — will lend their voices to the film adaptation of “Oh, The Places You’ll Go.” Based on the Dr. Seuss classic, the animated musical will be directed by “Wicked” filmmaker Jon M. Chu and Jill Culton. Plot details haven’t been revealed, so it’s unclear how the film will take inspiration from the beloved picture book. It is scheduled for release March 17, 2028.

Darth Vader’s iconic lightsaber prop is set to go under the hammer for the first time, with an estimated value of up to $3 million. The pivotal duelling weapon, featured in the 1980s films “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return Of The Jedi”, will be offered at a live auction in September. Hosted by memorabilia auction house Propstore, the sale coincides with the 45th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back.

Joel McHale is giving an update on the highly anticipated “Community” movie. He told Parade: “We will be making that movie. We have the money now, and that is happening.” McHale said that now, the biggest obstacle is the actors’ schedules, and “Thankfully, everybody’s really busy, and that’s great…We just have to get the schedules to sync up.” McHale starred on Community from 2009 to 2015.

Billy McFarland is no longer the owner of FYRE Festival, because someone snapped up the rights to the brand on eBay — and they only needed a little over $245K to do it. FYRE Festival’s rights, IP, brand trademark and social media assets were sold Tuesday. FYRE Festival epically flopped in 2017, and inspired a few documentaries. McFarland hyped up the music festival as luxury glamping in the Bahamas with celeb guests and big-name acts, but he and his investors didn’t have the cash to follow through. He ended up spending time in prison. In 2022, Fyre Festival 2 never even got off the ground.

DID YA KNOW!?

You could sweat when you're anxious to alert others. One theory suggests we've evolved to sweat whilst anxious to alert the brains of other people around us so they are primed for whatever it is that's making us anxious. Brain scans have revealed that when you sniff the sweat of a panic-induced person, regions of the brain that handle emotional and social signals light up. When you're anxious your sympathetic nervous system releases hormones including adrenaline, which activates your sweat glands.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

The Vatican recently announced that it faces a $97 million dollar deficit, as the Pope appeals for donations.

We hear a lot about AI stealing jobs and stressing people out—but a new 20-year study tells a different story. Researchers followed 18,500 German workers and found those in AI-heavy roles actually reported better health and steady job and life satisfaction. No spikes in stress, anxiety, or job insecurity. As it turns out, AI might be helping more than hurting — by taking over tedious or physically demanding tasks, like lifting boxes or filling out paperwork. Workers even reported shaving an average of 30 minutes off their workweek without losing pay. The key? Germany’s strong worker protections. So, maybe AI’s future at work isn’t doom and gloom after all.

WEIRD NEWS

Having weird dreams lately? Your late-night snack might be to blame — especially if it’s dairy. A new Canadian study from MacEwan University looked at over 1,000 students, and found that those with food sensitivities, especially lactose intolerance, were more likely to report nightmares and poor sleep. Dr. Tore Nielsen, lead researcher and director of the Dream and Nightmare Lab in Montreal, said the worse one’s lactose intolerance, the worse the nightmares. In addition, students with unhealthy eating habits — like fast food, skipping meals, or late-night snacking — also had more emotionally intense or negative dreams. Dairy, spicy foods, and sweets were found to be the top dream disruptors, with desserts getting double blame (since they often contain dairy). While many participants didn’t think food affected their dreams, the study suggests there’s a real connection.
