SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
If you’re having a rough day, chances are you’ll be raiding the fridge later. A 2021 survey of Americans found that food is the top mood-booster for those who are feeling down. Nearly half (43%) admitted they eat something just to feel better, with sweets the go-to choice for 50% of respondents. Salty snacks came in second at 38%. Healthier coping methods were less popular: Only 32% said they’d stretch or work out, and just 29% preferred stepping outside for some fresh air.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Bob Odenkirk’s modestly budgeted sequel “Nobody 2” had to settle for a third-place finish in its domestic box office debut, netting around $9.4 million, as Zach Cregger’s horror pic “Weapons” continued to fire on all cylinders, grabbing $24 million in its second weekend. Last weekend, Weapons made Warner Bros. the first studio ever to have $40 million-plus openings on 6 consecutive wide theatrical releases. Disney’s family comedy “Freakier Friday” came second over the weekend with an estimated haul $14-15 million.
Sharon Stone recently made horrifying revelations about her past that left an indelible impact on her life. In an interview, the “Basic Instinct” actress opened up about facing abuse by her own grandfather during her childhood, days after announcing her mother’s demise. Dishing out her dark family history in her memoir “The Beauty of Living Twice”, Stone talked about her maternal grandfather, whom she accused of being a violent abuser and pedophile. She also spoke in the interview of her love for her father, Joseph, describing their bond as “tighter than two coats of paint.”
Season 34 of “Dancing with the Stars” debuts next month, and fans are excited to see what ABC has in store. Ans according to co-hosts Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro, changes are on the way. An IG video shows both performing dance styles that have been customary on the show. Then, Hough declares: “But. We’ve never…” and Ribeiro continues: “…never done this.” With a wink, the video shifts to show both Hough and Ribeiro wearing joggers and him with a sweatshirt, while she sports a sports bra. Then they do a quick dance move as a snippet of ‘Pump up the Jam’ plays. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3xnn65be
Sophie Turner admitted that kissing her “Game of Thrones” co-star Kit Harington for the new gothic horror film, “The Dreadful,” was a “vile” experience. They portrayed siblings ‘Sansa Stark’ and ‘Jon Snow’ throughout all 8 seasons of “Game of Thrones.” Although the series concluded in 2019, Turner explained that their sibling-like bond has endured. Despite the initial awkwardness, Turner said she and Harington agreed The Dreadful script was so good, they “kind of had to do it”… and then we get on set and it’s the first kissing scene, and we are both retching. Like, really, it is vile. It was the worst.”
DID YA KNOW!?
Not only plants photosynthesise. Algae (which are not plants) and some other organisms – including sea slugs and pea aphids – contain chlorophyll and can also take sunlight and turn it into an energy source.

A recent study found that confidence in U.S. public schools is at a record low.
HOW TO GET THE KIDS BACK ON A SCHOOL-YEAR SLEEP SCHED:
OK, we go over it every year, but it’s important…especially if you want your sweet little students to have a successful start to the new school year. Here’s what you should be doing to get your kids ready — starting right about now…
• Start earlier bedtimes 1-2 weeks before school (15-30 min earlier at a time).
• Skip heavy meals/screens before bed; choose calming activities, like reading.
• Get morning sunlight to wake up the brain.
• Talk them through first-day worries; try practice runs through the morning routine, including a trip to school.
• If creating a new routine ahead of time isn’t possible, don’t stress out. Kids will adjust. (And so will you!)
And by the way, preschoolers should get up to 13 hours of sleep. Tweens need 9-12. Teens? They do best with 8-10 hours of shut-eye.

WEIRD NEWS
The latest weapons to protect livestock from predators include AC/DC music, and audio of a heated argument between Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver from the film “Marriage Story.” In response to increasing gray wolf attacks on livestock in the western US, ranchers and USDA researchers have turned to utilizing drones equipped with speakers that play loud, unsettling sounds. These drones emit noises such as AC/DC’s ‘Thunderstruck’, gunshots, and yes, that movie clip. The goal is to deter wolves from preying on cattle by creating an environment that feels threatening to them. This “hazing” technique has reportedly reduced wolf attacks in some regions, offering a non-lethal alternative to traditional methods.
