SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

The average person second-guesses 41% of their daily decisions, says a new poll. The survey, conducted in the US, found the average person makes about 50 decisions in a day. And even though we are faced with these choices so often, a quarter of those surveyed say they are often stressed by making simple decisions (27%). What choices often cause the most stress? One in 4 said they often get overwhelmed with choices in the grocery store, and 54% feel pressure to always try and make the “right” purchase. The survey found that the average person spends 4 minutes deliberating each item at the grocery store, and nearly a third spend even longer.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

While Frankie Muniz is remaining tight-lipped about the upcoming “Malcolm in the Middle” reboot, the actor-turned NASCAR driver teased the 4-episode revival will be “pretty shocking”. In a podcast appearance, Muniz said fans can expect “closure” for the genius teen character, who spent 7 seasons trying to come of age in a household full of loud and oft-dimwitted grown-ups and siblings. Muniz feels “people will be surprised…where everybody is and the story…But I think people are going to be very happy with what they came up with.”

Nev Schulman is breaking into the New York City real estate scene. The “Catfish” star is joining Coldwell Banker Warburg as a licensed real estate salesperson. A press release notes the native New Yorker is ready to embrace the competitive, luxury real estate market in his home city. Schulman feels his time hosting with the hit MTV series helped him prepare for this next chapter in his life, saying: “Hosting Catfish taught me how to listen deeply, build trust quickly, and help people navigate some of the most emotional decisions of their lives.” His father, Robert, is also a broker at the firm.

“The Conjuring: Last Rites” exorcised an impressive $83 million at the domestic box office. That’s a new opening weekend record for the “Conjuring” universe, beating the benchmark held by the 2018 spinoff “The Nun”, which opened with $54 million. It’s also the best start this year for a horror movie (beating the $51.6 million debut of “Final Destination: Bloodline”), and the third-largest in box office history, following the 2 “It” movies.

DID YA KNOW!?

Martial artists who smile before the start of a match are more likely to lose. This could be as a smile can convey fear or submissiveness.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

When the NFL introduced its clear-bag policy in 2013, it solved a security issue…but sparked a style dilemma. Fans could no longer bring purses or totes unless they were transparent, small, and stadium-approved (although some venues also allow a small clutch). That left many people scrambling for a way to carry essentials without sacrificing fashion. And that challenge opened the door for new businesses. Brands like SheerGear and Caitie G built entire collections around stylish, compliant options, from totes and crossbodies to backpacks with interchangeable straps. Luxury labels have since followed, with Coach, Kate Spade, Tory Burch and even Bloomingdale’s offering high-end transparent designs. The growing market reflects both necessity and demand: women want convenience, privacy, and style while navigating security lines. Clear bags may have started as a restriction, but now, they’ve become a fashion category all their own.

Uber is rolling out a new, old way to pay: cash. The company, long associated with card-only payments, has begun letting riders hand drivers bills at the end of trips. The feature debuted in places like Cincinnati and San Antonio, but has since expanded into bigger markets, including LA, San Diego, and Tampa. Riders still book through the app, but instead of swiping a card, they settle up with cash. Uber says the move is meant to include customers who don’t have access to credit or digital payments. Safety measures require riders to verify their identity with government ID or a third-party database, and drivers must maintain good ratings to receive cash requests. Drivers can also opt out.

WEIRD NEWS

The Australian embassy in Japan issued a warning to travelers to behave themselves after an Instagrammer drank memorial offerings left at a Japanese burial site. Influencer Lochie Jones was seen flipping a coin to decide whether to sip the canned beverage, then drinking it, and burping in front of the headstone. The clip, shared last month, drew a storm of angry comments online, with many calling for him to be banned from Japan. In response, the Australian embassy reminded travelers to show “appropriate behavior” while visiting, stressing that Australians should respect local customs and laws, even if the temptation to go viral is strong.
