THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
I just discovered that we have a storage unit. My wife has been paying for this thing for two years without me even knowing about it. It's not huge and it's not expensive, but I am absolutely amazed that she had this without even talking to me about it. I found out because we got a letter from the storage unit telling us that there are new owners and they are planning a rate increase for next year. We can renew our lease at that time or we can choose to move out. I was super confused, so I called to see if this was meant for someone else. They said, “We usually talk to your wife, so she would know all about this” I confronted her about it and she didn't deny it. She said she didn't talk to me about it because she was paying for it on her own. She has been buying things at garage sales and on facebook then making improvements and selling them for more. She also cleared out the clutter from our garage and closets, which I did notice, but I didn't realize we were paying to store this stuff. I'm OK with her doing this, but I feel like we should have spoke about it first. Does this seem odd that she would keep this a secret? Is it OK that she did it this way?

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
On a lazy Sunday, many of us skip chores and dive into Netflix or a gripping book. While this is often seen as procrastination, new research suggests doing so may have psychological benefits. A study in Acta Psychologica found that people who binge-watch shows or read multiple chapters in one sitting are more likely to engage in “retrospective imaginative involvement” (RII)—mentally replaying and expanding on stories long after finishing them. This mental engagement can help reduce stress and enhance well-being. TV shows, in particular, sparked creative elaboration, like imagining alternate endings or replaying favorite scenes. Lighthearted stories encouraged simple replay, while complex narratives inspired deeper imagination. The researchers caution that benefits come when viewers engage deeply with content that resonates personally, rather than passively consuming anything available. Binge-watching, it seems, can be more than just mindless entertainment—it can nourish the mind.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
“Saturday Night Live” has confirmed 5 new cast members are set to join the sketch comedy series. Veronika Slowikowska, Kam Patterson, Ben Marshall, Tommy Brennan and Jeremy Culhane have all joined the cast for the upcoming 51st season. This news follows word that Heidi Gardner, Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker and Emil Wakim have all departed. The new season will premiere Oct. 4th.
Amid a flood of “Saturday Night Live” cast changes and rumors about even more, fans can breathe a sigh of relief that one longtime cast staple will be back. Scarlett Johansson has confirmed that her hubby Colin Jost will return for season 51. While it is not yet confirmed that Michael Che will also be back behind the news desk, it’s hard to imagine one without the other. Johansson also couldn’t say if she’d also be back for another infamous “Weekend Update” joke swap with Jost and Che, because that type of thing is usually arranged “like Friday night before the Saturday show.” Saturday Night Live season 51 premieres Oct. 4.
Danny Trejo is alive and well, despite a false social media post that had fans believing the Hollywood icon had died. Over the weekend, a memorial-style post dedicated to Trejo’s life began circulating on Instagram, before snowballing across platforms. Things escalated when John Leguizamo, who once shared the screen with Trejo in “The Infiltrator”, reposted the claim, leading many to think the report was legit. Finally, 81-year-old Trejo himself stepped in to calm worried fans, writing on IG: “Thank you all for your concern, but I am very much alive. Someone is spreading fake news.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yv2kwanc
DID YA KNOW!?
LEGO bricks withstand compression better than concrete. An ordinary plastic LEGO brick is able to support the weight of 375,000 other bricks before it fails. This, theoretically, would let you build a tower nearing 3.5km in height. Scaling this up to house-size bricks, however, would cost far too much

OF THE DAY
Researchers say your social media habit could be making you unhappy.
Pumpkin spice wasn’t always destined to be a fall favorite. Peter Dukes, creator of the Pumpkin Spice Latte, recently told the story of how, back in 2003, Starbucks set out to design a seasonal drink that felt warm and comforting, testing ideas like chocolate and caramel, alongside pumpkin. At the time, pumpkin wasn’t a popular flavor outside of pie, and in early surveys, it actually scored the lowest with customers. Even though Starbucks believed in the concept, they were worried that customers might not “get” the flavor. They staged their lab to feel like autumn, sampled pumpkin pie with espresso, and eventually perfected the recipe. A market test sent scores soaring, and the Pumpkin Spice Latte was born. But the iconic PSL almost hit shelves under a totally different name — the Fall Harvest Latte.

WEIRD NEWS
A Missouri fire department said a vegan firefighter’s first day on the job included a call about 40,000 pounds of ribeye steaks that caught fire on the highway. The Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District said that crews responded Monday to a tractor-trailer fire on Route 174. And as the post pointed out, “This was probationary [firefighter] Jenna Ulrich’s first fire…Ulrich is the only vegan on our department — so naturally, her very first fire involved a tractor trailer carrying 40,000 pounds of ribeye steak.” No injuries were reported, but the steaks were “a total loss.”
