SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

A study published by The Royal Society scientific journal found that just like us, our puppers also sometime struggle to fall asleep due to their “troubles”. Studies measured how dogs sleep after positive or negative emotional experiences, such as being called a good boy and having their head scratched, or being approached by a stranger. Like people, dogs were found to have a restless night, tossing and turning after the negative experience. A positive experience enabled consistent sleep.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Princess Diana was approached by Kevin Costner about appearing in “The Bodyguard” sequel. Radar online reports that Costner contacted the late royal to encourage her to make a move into acting by offering her a major breakthrough role. Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell claims in his new autobiography “The Royal Insider” that he “put through” Costner’s call to the Princess, who found the conversation amusing. He writes that while flattered by the offer, “She politely declined the opportunity, saying, ‘It is entirely impossible.'” Costner claimed that Diana was initially on board with the film, telling him, “My life’s about to change”.

James Van Der Beek made a surprise cameo at the “Dawson’s Creek Reunion” Monday night in NYC, after bowing out of the event due to his ongoing health issues, including cancer. The actor, who played ‘Dawson Leery’, appeared in a pre-recorded video on a virtual screen and introduced the man who stepped up to replace him — Lin Manuel Miranda. Van Der Beek then gave a shoutout to the fans in the theater, thanking them for being there and saying he was humbled by their presence. He also made a joke about Lin Manuel being his understudy before introducing the “Hamilton” creator as his replacement.

MTV has officially pulled the plug on its long-running reality TV show “Catfish”, after 12 years and 9 seasons. Catfish was extremely popular among fans upon its release, but after several changes over the years, their commitment to the show waned. Also, many viewers believe the on-camera relationship between hosts Kamie Crawford and Nev Schulman had become visibly strained. The show originally featured host Nev Schulman and co-host Max Joseph traveling around the United States to expose deceptive relationships.

DID YA KNOW!?

Earth is 4.54 billion years old. Using radiometric dating, scientists have discovered that the Earth is 4.54 billion years old (give or take 50 million years). This makes our planet half the age of the Milky Way Galaxy (11-13 billion years old) and around a third of the age of the Universe (10-15 billion years old).

SCOOP OF THE DAY

A study found that 50% of us would live with hiccups for the rest of our lives in exchange for a billion dollars.

Using a touchscreen while driving is more dangerous than toggling physical controls. In fact, it slows drivers’ reaction times more than alcohol (up to the legal limit), cannabis, and texting, according to a study by the independent consultancy group TRL. “What Car?” magazine reports that 89% of drivers prefer physical buttons to screens. Nonetheless, 97% of cars released after 2023 had at least one screen. Why? For one, display screens are cheaper to install. For another, automakers can use the same tech across multiple models. And they’re essential for software updates. But some automakers have gotten the memo. Volkswagen, Subaru, and Hyundai say they’re working to incorporate physical buttons back into at least some of their vehicles.

WEIRD NEWS

In what might be one of the more eyebrow-raising “doctor’s notes,” an anesthesiologist reportedly abandoned a patient mid-surgery for a rendezvous with a nurse in another operating room. 44-year-old Dr. Suhail Anjum allegedly asked a colleague to cover while he took a so-called “comfort break” during a 2023 gallbladder procedure at a Manchester hospital. The duo was discovered in a compromising…ummm…position by another staff member, though Anjum returned after 8 minutes to finish the operation. He didn’t dispute the allegations, citing personal stress at home.

THE LIST

CHEAT CODES FOR LIFE:

If you’ve ever discovered an everyday hack that totally changed the game, you know just how good that feels. A Reddit recently asked: “What’s a ‘cheat code’ you discovered in real life that actually works?” Here are the best responses…

✓ Compliment people behind their back.

✓ Be quick to give credit to others when things work out and the first to admit responsibility when things go wrong.

✓ Chilling the (bleep!) out when driving.

✓ Never be nice, be kind.

✓ If you act like the kind of person you’d want to bump into on your worst day, life gets way easier. People open doors, literally and figuratively.

✓ Stop giving a (bleep!) about what other people think.

✓ How to say NO.

✓ Finding peace in the mirror, not perfection.

✓ Walking daily clears your head more than half of the advice online.

✓ Listen more, talk less.

✓ Never stop dating your wife and kiss often.

✓ Be a regular at your favorite local establishments, learn the staff’s names, treat them well, and tip them well! You will be treated like royalty.

✓ Not being afraid to ask questions.

✓ When you’re tired, drink water before you drink coffee. You’re probably dehydrated.

✓ Get at least 8 hours of sleep, and your life will improve dramatically.

And perhaps most importantly, “Place a tortilla under your tacos so when you eat them and stuff falls out, you get an extra at the end.”
