SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Without getting all morbid on you, have you made plans for your funeral? According to a new survey, two-thirds of us have at least THOUGHT about our own funerals. The poll of 750 adults in the US — split evenly between single, engaged, and married respondents — shows many have already made choices such as their burial preferences and music selections, while 17% said they think about death daily. Still, conversations about end-of-life planning remain rare. Topics like funerals, estate plans, and inheritance are considered as difficult to discuss as mental health or regrets, and almost half said they won’t ask loved ones what items they might want to inherit. Two-thirds also said they haven’t created an estate plan. Other survey findings…
• 36% plan to make an estate plan within 5 years
• 28% don’t plan to make one at all
• 38% say they don’t have enough assets to do so
• 52% who have plans cite peace of mind as the main reason

Two superstars with massive social media followings, Taylor Swift with 548 million, and Dwayne Johnson with 562 million, duked it out at the box office, with the cat-loving singer showing her claws over the former WWE champ. “Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl” netted a projected $33 million domestically over the weekend, sending Rock’s “The Smashing Machine” down for the count with an estimated $6.2M. For Johnson, it’s the lowest opening ever of his career as a leading man.
Fans of the many “Archie” comics starring Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge and other iconic characters over the years will be hyped up about this Disney+ project. It was just announced that the 2010s comic book “Afterlife with Archie” is getting a TV adaptation, with the team behind another famous Archie adaptation, “Riverdale”, also working on the new show. The official logline for the dark series says the upcoming show “re-imagines the beloved town of Riverdale as an apocalyptic, nightmare-fueled hellscape overrun with flesh-eating zombies.”
Candace Cameron Bure already has a lot of titles under her belt, actress, producer, podcast host, mom… But she’s looking forward to the day when she can add one more: Grandma. On the latest episode of her Candace Cameron Bure Podcast, she shared the name she had picked out for her future grandkids to call her — only for her kids to shut it down. In the clip shared on her IG, she revealed that she wanted her grandkids to refer to her as “CandyGram”. After all, she said: “My name’s Candy, and I’m a grandma! — I’m CandyGram!” Her kids’ response: “They are like, ‘That’s so dumb, mom.’” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/ybvvn5mm
DID YA KNOW!?
Zurich, Switzerland residents have voted to ban gas-powered leaf blowers and vacuums, citing noise and air pollution. While electric devices will still be allowed, their use is limited to October through December. The move, upheld by more than 61% of voters, came after some parties tried to overturn a previous ban. Switzerland’s direct democracy system allows citizens to trigger referendums such as this one, if enough signatures are collected.

Beavers don't actually live in dams. Technically, beavers live in a lodge that they build behind a dam, within a deep pool of water.
Could it be that the so-called “golden age” for service providers, of getting consumers to sign on for what once seemed like an unlimited number of monthly subscription fees…is over? Maybe so, according to this survey: U.S. households are cutting back sharply on subscriptions, trimming an average of 4.1 services in 2024 to 2.8 in 2025, according to research by Self Financial. Rising costs are the main driver, with price hikes from Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+, and Apple TV+ pushing many to cancel. Nearly half of subscribers say they won’t tolerate further increases, and convenience is no longer enough to justify subscriptions. Password-sharing crackdowns backfired, with many turning to piracy instead of paying. Despite cutbacks, households still spend about $127 annually on unused services, often a result of forgotten free trials. Popular services at risk include Apple TV+, Starz, and ESPN+, while food delivery apps like Caviar and Grubhub see high rates of non-use. Consumers say they’re embracing more deliberate, value-focused subscription choices.

WEIRD NEWS
Chinese researchers say they’ve created a groundbreaking “super glue” for bones that can heal fractures in minutes, rather than months. Developed at Zhejiang University, the adhesive, called “Bone-02”, has already been tested successfully in more than 150 cases. Inspired by oysters’ ability to cling to wet, shifting surfaces, scientists engineered a bio-glue that fuses bone fragments with a single injection, bonding them in just 3 minutes, and avoiding complicated surgeries to install a metal plate and screws. In addition, Bone-02 is absorbed naturally by the body, eliminating the need for follow-up surgery. Though patented in China and abroad, experts caution more clinical trials are needed to confirm its safety and effectiveness.
