SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
According to a new survey, many of us feel like we’re stepping back in time when we visit our doctor’s office. Six percent of 2,000 US adults who visited a physician in the past year agreed that appointments feel “14 years behind.” Two-thirds said that more modern, digitally-forward practices would improve their experience, while half feel new technology could enhance healthcare. Over the next 5–10 years, patients expect to see these changes: improved care access, wearables for tracking health, and new care locations. Other anticipated innovations include personalized care, digital education tools, and new care delivery roles. “Modern” doctors’ offices are defined by having appointment reminders sent via text or email (71%), patient portal access (63%), online scheduling (53%), digital health records (53%), and waiting areas with phone chargers, sign-in tablets, and educational TV screens.
Some more findings:
• 76% say their doctor’s office already feels modern
• 71% receive appointment reminders via text/email
• 63% have patient portal access
• 53% can schedule online or access digital records
• 45% expect instant test results and biometric check-ins soon
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Ron Howard is once again bringing real-life stories to the screen, this time teaming up with Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway for a military drama “Alone at Dawn”. The film recounts the heroic efforts of Air Force Combat Controller John Chapman, who saved over 20 of his Navy SEAL comrades during the Afghan war. The story also highlights the efforts of an intelligence officer whose investigation proved Chapman’s valor, making him the first airman in nearly 50 years to receive the Medal of Honor. The film will be released in theaters, but no date has been announced.
Robert Irwin has gained a massive fanbase since joining the cast of “Dancing with the Stars”, and the rest of his famous family may reap the benefits. The Star reports: “Hollywood is going absolutely gaga for the Irwins”, thanks to the attention Robert is getting on the show. This has resulted in “a surge of interest in everything to do with the family”, and “Everyone is saying they’d be perfect for a reality show”, which could be set at the family’s Australia Zoo. Family matriarch Terri Irwin operates the zoo, alongside Robert and daughter Bindi.

OF THE DAY
Amazon recently showed off its new developments in home security and AI, with the launch of upgraded Ring and Blink cameras — and its refined Alexa+ voice assistant. The cameras now feature higher-resolution imaging and facial recognition, designed to help users quickly identify visitors…and spot potential intruders. Ring boss Jamie Siminoff said: “It’s about knowing immediately whether your visitor is someone you know or someone you’ve never seen before.” The new Ring cameras, available later this year, will also be enabled with Alexa+, allowing the devices, through AI, to help make decisions like whether a visitor is delivering a package or casing a home for intrusion. The refreshed Echo lineup, including Dots and Show devices, now runs on faster chips and integrates Alexa+. Amazon is trying to spur interest in the new Alexa, which it spent years (and billions) updating with AI for a more conversational tone and more personalized interactions. The enhancements aim to make Alexa more useful and profitable…while boosting home security.

WEIRD NEWS
Hershey scored a sweet victory when a judge tossed out a lawsuit claiming its Reese’s Halloween candies aren’t spooky enough. The class-action suit argued that wrappers showed pumpkins with carved faces and ghosts with eyes and mouths, while the unwrapped chocolates were plain. A judge ruled that while customers may have been disappointed, they suffered no real economic harm – as the candy still tasted the same. Filed in 2024, the case targeted Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins, White Ghosts, and other holiday shapes. The judge concluded that missing designs didn’t make the chocolates “worthless.”
