SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
According to a survey, the average adult will spend well more than a year of their life — in the bathroom. The poll of 2,000 adults in the UK found the average person spends 416 days in the bathroom—373 for men, 456 for women. Much of that time is devoted to getting ready, with 3 months of your life spent prepping for work alone. Sharing a bathroom adds to the stress, with 7 in 10 finding that frustrating. The top restroom peeves are: running out of toilet paper (as you would imagine…), clogged drains, and messy partners. But bathrooms aren’t just functional—they’re escapes. One in 6 said they hide there for peace, while others report using it for pep talks, arguments, heart-to-hearts — and 1.4% even said they have given birth in the bathroom. No wonder half of us say a great bathroom is key to happiness, with many crediting renovations for boosting their mood.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
“Reading Rainbow” is coming back. The classic series is being revived by PBS. The new iteration of the show will be a digital series, debuting this Saturday on KidZuko, the kids-focused YouTube channel operated by Sony. The original Reading Rainbow was a staple of PBS for decades, running from 1983-2006, with host LeVar Burton.
There’s no bad blood between Drew Barrymore and Martha Stewart. Stewart returned to “The Drew Barrymore Show” on Monday, nearly a year after the viral moment where she playfully pushed the host away for being too touchy. The pair addressed the controversy and dispelled rumors of a feud, with Barry more saying: “People thought that we had beef, or that you had beef with me…and I didn’t get it.” Stewart replied: “Oh, I just don’t like to be petted on television.” Barrymore took that comment in stride, saying: “Understood, Martha. I won’t pet you again.”
Howie Mandel is coming home to host a Canadian spinoff of “The Price is Right,” and unlike softwood lumber or steel, he jokes, his services come with no duties attached. The Toronto-born comedian quipped: “I’m hosting tariff-free.” Named “The Price is Right Tonight,” the prime-time reimagining of the U.S. game show begins production this December in Toronto, and will debut on Citytv next spring. A call for contestants started this month, inviting Canadians to apply for a chance to “come on down.”
DID YA KNOW!?
Robot umpires will become a thing in MLB next season. The Automated Ball/Strike System (ABS), already tested in the minors since 2019, will allow teams 2 challenges per game, with extra chances in extra innings. Pitchers, catchers, or batters can signal a challenge by tapping their helmet or cap, and successful reviews are displayed on outfield videoboards. While human umpires will still make calls, ABS is expected to reduce disputes. Last season, over 60% of ejections stemmed from arguments over balls and strikes. Stats show umpires’ ball and strike calls are accurate about 94% of the time.

A New York plastic surgeon has gone viral for claiming that running may speed up aging. In a TikTok video viewed more than 12 million times, Dr. Gerald Imber warns that pounding the pavement can wear down joints, shorten posture, and even cause sagging skin. In it, he asks: “Have you ever seen a longtime distance runner that didn’t have a gaunt, old face?” While running is proven to boost heart health, metabolism, and muscle strength, Imber suggests cycling as a gentler alternative. Biking provides similar cardiovascular benefits while protecting joints, improving balance, and supporting brain health. Studies also link regular cycling to lower risks of knee pain and osteoarthritis. Reactions to the clip are mixed, with some swearing off running, and others defending it as their personal fountain of youth. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4k8khkwd

Lisa Catalano is betting big on love. The 42-year-old vintage clothing retailer from San Mateo CA has rented a dozen digital billboards along Highway 101 — all promoting her quest to find a husband, and according to her, “This is not a joke. It’s not a gimmick. This is a serious, self-funded endeavor.” After years of dating app failures, Catalano launched her campaign September 2, directing eligible men to her website, MarryLisa.com. There, bachelors can learn about her, her “non-negotiables”, and apply for a chance at love. Despite the expense, she remains hopeful, saying: “I want to fall in love. I want to get married and start a family.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4ztnw7mh
