Ibuprofen is known for fighting headaches and cramps, but new research suggests it could also help fight cancer. Scientists are exploring how this common painkiller, part of the NSAID family, might reduce the risk of endometrial cancer – the most common form of womb cancer affecting postmenopausal women. A study of more than 42,000 women found those taking 30 or more ibuprofen tablets per month had a 25% lower risk of developing the disease. And ibuprofen’s possible cancer-protective effects go further than that. Studies suggest it may also reduce risk of bowel, breast, lung, and prostate cancers.

MTV is officially saying goodbye to “Ridiculousness” after 46 seasons on the air. MTV is working to “reimagine” the network, and seeking to “feature a more curated slate”, which seems to have led to the show’s cancelation. A traditional episode of the series featured Rob Dyrdek running viewers and the studio audience through a series of hilarious viral videos, while his cohosts and a celebrity guest reacted. The show was often a topic of conversation on social media as the network aired endless marathons of Ridiculousness over the years.
DID YA KNOW!?
Using “baby talk” can capture a cat’s attention – but only when it comes from their owner. In a 2022 study, when strangers tried the same high-pitched tone, the cats largely ignored them. Researchers at Paris Nanterre University discovered that cats can distinguish their owner’s speech directed at them from speech meant for other humans. The findings suggest cats recognize and respond to the special way their owners communicate with them, in much the same way that dogs react to baby talk.

A new survey has revealed how to make the perfect grilled cheese: white bread, cut into triangles, and layered with 2 kinds of cheese. Most respondents in the poll, taken in the US, said the ideal combo is cheddar (44%) and American cheese (40%), while cheddar alone was the clear favorite overall. When it comes to the bread, 43% prefer white with the crust on, while 24% lean toward sourdough. And for that signature golden crunch, butter is the top coating (71%), followed by mayonnaise (12%) or a mix of both (12%). Here are some more findings…
• 62% call themselves “grilled cheese enthusiasts.”
• Americans eat about 3 grilled cheese sandwiches per month.
• 84% say the crispy-outside, gooey-inside bite is one of life’s best feelings.
• The top add-ins, in order, are bacon, ham, tomatoes, pulled pork, and French fries(!!)
• Some of the more interesting inside additions are: pickles, pulled pork, potato chips, and French fries(!!)
• Favorite dipping sauces: ranch, ketchup, and honey mustard

WEIRD NEWS
Apparently, political-themed bumper stickers are making traffic more dangerous. Researchers at the University of Cincinnati found that drivers are more likely to react angrily to bad drivers who display bumper stickers from the opposing political party to the one they support. Nearly 900 people watched simulated dashcam footage of cars driving well or badly — some with “Proud Democrat” or “Proud Republican” stickers, others with neutral or no stickers. When driving was smooth, politics didn’t matter, but when it turned sloppy, opposing-party stickers made people more likely to honk and rate the other driver “colder.” Researchers say the results show how political identity can spill into everyday life…even during the morning commute.

It gets tougher to have friends as we age, according to a new study from Talker Research. A survey of 2,000 Americans found that 69% agree that maintaining a large circle of close friends becomes harder over time. On average, people said they currently have about 4 close friends — and lose about one per year (not due to death, to be clear…). Friendship loss is higher among Gen Z, and men report losing more friends than women. The main reasons friendships fade include distance, life changes, and lack of effort. Psychologist Kylie Sligar advises adults to be proactive, consistent, and “show up” to build lasting connections. Here are the biggest reasons that survey respondents said they’ve lost touch with their friends…
• Geographical distance (50%)
• Life transitions (48%)
• They stopped reaching out (40%)
• I stopped reaching out (35%)
• Lack of time (25%)
• Change in values (22%)
• Other reasons (8%)
