SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

How long you live might be linked to how smart you are — and it might come down to your genes. Researchers at the University of Edinburgh analyzed genetic data from nearly 400,000 people and found that some of the same genes that are tied to higher intelligence in children are also connected to longer lifespans in their parents. In other words, intelligence and longevity share biological roots, not just lifestyle habits. The genetic link seems to work in one of 2 ways: either certain genes directly build healthier bodies and brains, or intelligence genes lead to better education…which opens doors to higher-paying jobs, living in safer neighborhoods, and healthier lifestyles.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Get ready to crash the party…again. “Wedding Crashers” is returning to theaters for its 20th anniversary. Fathom Entertainment has partnered with Warner Bros. Pictures to bring the R-rated comedy back to the big screen on Dec. 4 and 11. The 20th anniversary special release will include an additional 10 minutes of deleted scenes originally featured on the film’s 2006 home entertainment edition. Wedding Crashers stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn as lifelong friends and business partners who spend their free time crashing wedding receptions.

George Clooney’s tipping his cap to the robbers who shook down the Louvre in Paris — showing respect from one “professional thief” to another. The star of the “Ocean’s” heist films jokingly spoke about the crooks who pulled a fast one on the iconic French museum, saying: “If you’re a professional thief like I am, I was very proud of those guys.” It was all a gag…in which Clooney also called the theft “terrible” and expressed shock at the robbers’ brazen actions…but it also conjured up questions about the upcoming “Ocean’s 14.”

Derek Hough is firing back after Ryan Seacrest accused him of nearly breaking the “Wheel of Fortune” wheel. The “Dancing with the Stars” alum said that Seacrest’s claim is “1000% NOT true”. The host had said that during the September episode of the game show, “In the commercial break, (Hough) was jumping on the center of the wheel and having Bruno (Tonioli) spin it…like the top of a cake ornament.” Seacrest said asked him to stop, because “if that breaks, we have a real problem.’ While Hough insists he didn’t jump on the wheel, he did jump on the podium at the end of the episode, to celebrate winning $63,350 for Feeding America.

DID YA KNOW!?

If you like pina coladas … you’ll probably love the new pineapple that was bred to taste like one. As Dole, the world’s largest producer of fresh fruits and vegetables, prepares to celebrate its 125th anniversary next year, it’s celebrating with the tropical innovation that’s been 15 years in the making. The company says the “Colada Royale Pineapple” contains “notes of coconut in every juicy, aromatic bite”, and offers a flavor unlike anything currently on the market.” It features a lighter, brighter color and a smaller core, meaning more edible fruit per serving. It’s also packed with 2.5 times more vitamin B6 than traditional pineapples.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

Apparently, the miracle of life comes with its own soundtrack. A new analysis of more than 1,800 Spotify birth playlists found that Coldplay tops the charts in delivery rooms, with their 2005 hit ‘Fix You’ leading the way. Ed Sheeran landed in second place, while Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles tied for third – proving ‘Help!’ hits differently during labor. Other popular picks include Norah Jones, Elton John, and Taylor Swift. Science backs up the idea of creating a soundtrack to your delivery: Studies show music can calm both mothers and unborn babies, and even help regulate fetal heart rates. In other words, childbirth really is a labor of love…and rhythm.

A Pennsylvania family’s road trip turned into a true “catventure”. Little did they know when they left home that the family cat Ray Ray had decided to tag along — by secretly hitching a ride on top of their van. Mara Denardo and her family had already traveled 100 miles toward New Hampshire at highway speeds before realizing their stowaway’s daring choice. Discovered clinging safely to the roof at a gas stop, Ray Ray was quickly equipped with travel essentials, and officially welcomed aboard the road trip. He was able to take part in the New Hampshire marathon with Denardo’s husband, and explored New York City while in a backpack. The fearless feline even inspired Denardo’s upcoming children’s book series “Ray Ray’s Cattastic Adventure Tails”.

WEIRD NEWS

If you think your rent is high, try attending a wedding. A new Zillow analysis found that guests spend about $2,010 on pre-wedding events, gifts, and travel. That’s roughly the same as a month’s rent in the US. And bridesmaids? They have it even worse, shelling out between $1,500 and $2,500 for dresses, glam, and all the “mandatory fun” that comes with the honor. Destination weddings? Expect to pay $3,000 to $5,000 – per person. According to a LendingTree survey, nearly a third of recent wedding party members went into debt, with most blaming bachelor and bachelorette parties. It’s no wonder many people are saying “I don’t” to pricey bridal duties. As one TikToker put it: “Sue me — I’m not spending $5K to be your bridesmaid.”

QUESTION OF THE DAY

47% of people say that in a crisis, they are confident they could do THIS. What is it?

THE LIST

It turns out we’ve been throwing around acronyms our whole lives without knowing what they actually mean. A Reddit thread recently broke the internet (and a few brains) when people shared the real origins behind some of our most familiar abbreviations. Here are 10 of the most surprising ones…

LEGO – From the Danish “leg godt,” meaning “play well.” Suddenly, their slogan makes total sense.

TASER – Stands for Thomas A. Swift’s Electric Rifle. Yep, it’s named after a sci-fi book character.

SCUBA – Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. Sounds way less fun when you spell it out.

LASER – Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Science-y, and secretly an acronym.

GIF – Graphic Interchange Format. Still no consensus on whether it’s “gif” or “jif.”

IKEA – From founder Ingvar Kamprad, his farm Elmtaryd, and hometown Agunnaryd. It’s basically a Swedish tongue twister. (IKEA’s name is harder to assemble than their furniture!)

ZIP (as in ‘Zip Code’) – Zone Improvement Plan. My mail has never “zipped” anywhere!

RADAR – Radio Detection and Ranging. Old-school tech that still sounds futuristic.

TARDIS – Time and Relative Dimension in Space. Whovians already knew, but it’s still cool. (And the only acronym cooler than the thing it describes…!)

SNAFU – Situation Normal: All (BLEEPED!) Up. — Started in the military, now it’s just daily life.
