SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Parents argue with their teens more about driving than anything else – even dating. A new survey of 2,000 parents of teen drivers in the US found that more than half frequently clash over speeding, curfew, and gas use, averaging 4 driving-related disagreements each month. The poll found that most parents chip in for gas, insurance, and maintenance to the tune of about $6,000 per year, all while prioritizing safety over cost. Many are turning to telematics and strict house rules to keep their young drivers safe, reflecting a shift toward more oversight and shared vehicles. Despite the stress, nearly all parents say the extra monitoring is worth it. According to the survey, here are the most common driving rules that parents set for their teens…

No phone usage at all when driving (73%)

They must always tell me where they’re going (61%)

Be home by a certain time at night (60%)

No driving when tired (52%)

They must text me when they arrive at the destination (50%)

They must have tracking enabled on their phone, so I can see where they are (43%)

No eating while driving [as if!] (42%)

No passengers that I haven’t approved (38%)

No driving past a certain distance from home (27%)

No driving at night (22%)

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Scarlett Johansson is set to lead a “radical new take” on “The Exorcist”. The upcoming film will tell an all-new story set in The Exorcist universe, and is not a sequel 2023’s “The Exorcist: Believer,” which starred Leslie Odom Jr. Mike Flanagan, who’s behind TV hits like “The Haunting of Hill House” and “Midnight Mass”, will direct the new film, which is set to shoot in New York City. The original “Exorcist,” released in 1973, starring Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair, was a hit with audiences and critics, earning $441 million and garnering 2 Academy Awards.

If you’re going through withdrawal symptoms now that “Yellowstone” has ended and Season 2 of “1923” has finished, you’ll be relieved to know there’s more Yellowstone coming. Along with the still-untitled spinoff featuring characters ‘Beth Dutton’ and ‘Rip Wheeler’, CBS has confirmed rumors of yet another spinoff. The show, with the working title “Y: Marshals” will feature Luke Grimes in the role he originated on Yellowstone, ‘Kayce Dutton’, an ex-Navy SEAL and the youngest son of ‘John Dutton’ (Kevin Costner). Y: Marshals will premiere on Mar. 1 on CBS.

Eric Dane’s latest role is just what the doctor ordered. Amid his battle with ALS, the “Grey’s Anatomy” actor made a guest appearance in Tuesday’s episode of “Brilliant Minds”, playing a firefighter who also lives with the disease. Series creator Michael Grassi said that Dane’s performance led to a particularly moving moment with the show’s crew. Quote: “I have never seen this happen in my entire career, but he essentially got a 10-minute standing ovation after shooting (a) scene, because it was so beautiful and so honest and so real.”

DID YA KNOW!?

Did You Know... Some Turtles Can Breathe Through Their Butts? Certain species of turtles, like the Australian Fitzroy River turtle, have the ability to absorb oxygen through their cloaca, a multi-purpose opening. This adaptation helps them stay submerged for extended periods, sometimes up to five days, without needing to surface for air.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

Hot tubs and saunas can both relax your muscles, but a University of Oregon study found hot-water immersion offers stronger health effects. Researchers compared traditional saunas, infrared saunas and hot tubs in young, active adults, measuring temperature, blood pressure, heart activity and immune markers. Hot tubs raised core temperature the most, boosting blood flow and triggering beneficial inflammatory markers that play a positive role in the body’s adaptive response to stress. This same inflammatory response occurs after exercise. The inflammatory and immune responses continued after the hot tub session. While exercise provides similar or greater benefits, heat therapy can help people who can’t…or won’t exercise – as long as it’s done safely.

A Chinese startup, Lonvi Biosciences, claims it has developed a pill that could potentially extend human life to 150 years. CEO Ip Zhu calls it the “Holy Grail,” saying the pill may not only boost lifespan, but also reduce age-related diseases by improving cellular health. The drug is based on a compound from grape seeds previously linked to longer survival in rodents. It works by targeting “zombie cells”. Those are aging cells that stop dividing but still cause inflammation. Lonvi’s tests showed mice lived about 9% longer overall and 64% longer once treatment began. The company’s chief technology officer said: “Living to 150 is definitely realistic. In a few years, this will be the reality.”

WEIRD NEWS

A Tennessee homeowner taking a shower was surprised to see a six-foot snake on his bathroom floor. According to Greg King, President of Trapper Jack Wildlife Specialist, technician David Nipper was the one to respond to the call.

The call came in around 8 a.m. Monday. The homeowner told Nipper he’d gotten out of the shower and had seen the snake slither across the floor in his bathroom. The snake is a gray rat snake and about six-feet long. Nipper told News 2 it is a non-venomous snake. The homeowner had some plumbing work done and never had time to close up the patch in the dry wall. Nipper said these snakes like crawl spaces and will follow plumbing. Nipper released the snake near Percy Priest. No other information was immediately released.
