THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
I'm hoping you can help me. I started dating someone a little over a month ago. I'd like to buy her a nice gift for Christmas, but I'm not sure what the rules are! We've been on about 10 dates. We talk every single day. Usually chatting through text or messenger, but we talk on the phone at least once a day. She calls me when she's driving home. That is my absolute favorite twenty minutes every single day. I make sure to block that time off to give it all to her. I had a driver stop by my house to deliver a package the other day, I didn't go out to sign for it because it was in my twenty minutes with her, so I had to go pick up the package the next day. Still so worth it! I want to buy her something really nice, but we've only dated for a month. Would that be weird for me to buy something expensive when we've only dated a short while? I'm not rich, but I do well. I've been a single guy for a decade. I don't have debt so I've socked away quite a bit. I could buy something ridiculous if I wanted to, but I wonder if that's a bad idea? I could buy something smaller and tie it into a fun experience. I know her favorite bands and could maybe find a concert or something. I'd love some advice from you guys. What do you think?

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Numerous studies show that people who volunteer regularly tend to live longer. In fact, one 2017 study showed volunteers have a 20% to 60% lower risk of dying. That’s an impact comparable to major public-health advances like clean drinking water. Researchers say volunteering reduces stress, boosts mood, strengthens social ties, and encourages healthier habits, all of which support longevity. Psychologist Allen Luks called the post-volunteering lift the “helper’s high,” a burst of euphoria followed by calm. That combination of connection, meaning and reduced stress may be why volunteers tend to live longer.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
“Malcolm in the Middle” is returning. Frankie Muniz and the cast reunited to shoot a 4-part miniseries that’ll debut next year. Fans seem most pumped to see Bryan Cranston play devoted but occasionally irresponsible father ‘Hal’ again, and even Aaron Paul is psyched. Paul left a “Breaking Bad”-related comment under Cranston’s recent post about the reunion, writing: “You back in your tighty whities! Love it. Giving the public what they want. Can’t wait for this! Also, Thank you for shaving. It was needed.” An official teaser for” Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair” was released a few days ago. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4vc4aej3

OF THE DAY
SLEIGH BILLS:
With prices going up, up, up on everything from food to travel, here are some creative ways some families plan to gather, give, and enjoy the holiday season…despite higher costs…
→ Simpler Menus and Shared Meals: Families are simplifying recipes, cutting specialty ingredients, and sharing cooking duties to save money. Guests bringing dishes helps balance costs while keeping meals hearty, refocusing the holiday on time together rather than price.
→ Creative Gift-Giving on a Budget: How about setting spending limits, drawing names, or giving homemade gifts like baked goods or photo albums? Experiences and gently used items from online marketplaces allow thoughtful gifting without overspending, keeping the holiday spirit intact.
→ Travel Adjustments: Rising travel costs are prompting families to stay closer to home, combine trips, or rely on virtual visits. These adjustments reduce expenses and stress while still maintaining personal connections and holiday traditions.
→ Smarter Budgeting and Digital Planning Tools: Budgeting apps and digital planners help track spending, set limits, and manage food, gifts, and travel costs. Using rewards programs, price alerts, and early shopping, families gain more control and avoid financial surprises during the season.

WEIRD NEWS
A man in the UK has gone viral for transforming his beard and moustache into every letter of the English alphabet…over a period of time, of course. In the video, he starts by shaping an impressive letter A, then moves through the alphabet from B to Z, each crafted with remarkable precision. Curved letters rely on a perfectly-styled moustache, while sharper shapes come from carefully trimmed beard lines. The clip also shows the immense patience behind the project: he grows out his facial hair for each letter, shapes it, films it, then starts again. The video has amassed over 2.5 million views. THE LIST
According to science, listening to these 10 songs will get you in a better mood. How so? According to Dr. Michael Bonshor, who has a PhD in music psychology and has “done the research”, combining a major key, 7th chords, a 137 BPM, a strong beat, 4 beats in every bar and a structure of verse-chorus-verse-chorus, is the best way to compose a happy song. That said, here’s your “feel-good top 10”…
‘September’ – Earth, Wind and Fire:
The 1978 hit is a perfect way to flood the dance floor, and it’s been a staple at parties forever.
‘Waterloo’ – ABBA
This 1974 hit made the Eurovision Song Contest judges feel so good that they award it top prize.
‘YMCA’ – Village People
Ever since its release in 1978, hands have been flying in the air whenever singer Victor Willis launches into the chorus with: “It’s fun to stay at the …”
‘I Get Around’ – The Beach Boys
It became an instant classic upon its 1964 release…and who can resist singing along to that memorable chorus?
‘Sun Is Shining’ – Bob Marley
The 1971 release was later remixed, and became one of Marleys most popular songs – and when you hear it, you definitely understand why.
‘Uptown Girl’ – Billy Joel
In 1983, Joel released this instant evergreen written about his then-girlfriend, model Elle MacPherson, and his soon-to-be-wife, model Christie Brinkley.
‘Get The Party Started’ – Pink
This irresistible sing-along was released on her second album, 2001’s “Mizzundaztood”, and was her first major hit.
‘House Of Fun’ – Madness
Ska may not have stayed in fashion, but whenever you hear this ditty, you just might think about giving the genre a second listen.
‘I Got You (I Feel Good)’ – James Brown
His primal scream that is the beginning just about forces everyone to sing along. (And with a title like that, how could it NOT be on this list?)
‘Good Vibrations’ – The Beach Boys
Same
thing about this title…
