Want your clothes to last longer? Scientists say switching to shorter, colder wash cycles can protect both your clothes and the planet. In 2020, researchers at the University of Leeds found that washing at 68°F (20°C) for 30 minutes keeps colors from fading and reduces fabric damage compared with longer, hotter cycles. Their tests showed cold washes cut microfiber pollution by 52% and reduced dye loss by 74%. Microfibers, the tiny strands released during washing, make up over a third of plastic pollution reaching oceans, with natural fibers also appearing in large amounts. Cold washing also saves about 66% of the energy per load, lowering emissions and helping clothes last longer, keeping them out of landfills.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
“War of the Worlds,” a new take on the H.G. Wells story starring Ice Cube and his computer screen, and Disney’s “Snow White,” a live-action version of the fairy tale with Rachel Zegler, lead the field with 6 nominations each for the 46th Golden Raspberry Awards. The Razzies annually (dis)honor the year’s worst films on the night before the Oscars — this year’s “winners” will be announced March 14. Both War of the Worlds and Snow White are up for the Razzies’ top prize – worst picture – alongside The Weeknd’s musical drama “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” “Star Trek: Section 31” and the Chris Pratt Netflix sci-fi adventure “The Electric State.”
For 7 seasons, “Star Trek: Voyager” viewers watched ‘Captain Janeway’ navigate the impossible choices of the Delta Quadrant. Fans often speculated on how the journey might have changed if the crew had taken different shortcuts or if different decisions were made. Now, those “what if” scenarios can play out. The upcoming game “Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown” is scheduled for release on Feb. 19. The title shifts away from standard space combat toward a survival strategy focus. This means that every decision carries weight. Unlike traditional flight sims, you don’t “fly” the ship yourself; instead, you act as the captain, giving specific orders to officers like ‘Tom Paris’ and ‘Tuvok’ via a radial menu.

DID YOU KNOW… Penguins propose with pebbles. Male penguins search for the smoothest stone they can find and present it to a potential mate. If accepted, the pebble becomes part of their nest.

OF THE DAY
SIGNS SOMEONE IS LYING:
Veteran criminal defense attorney Dan Cogdell says the average person lies 2 to 3 times per day – often with harmless “white lies,” but lies nonetheless. After more than 40 years in courtrooms, he’s learned to recognize verbal patterns that often signal someone may not be telling the truth. Here are 5 common red flags to listen for:
1. “As far as I can recall…”
This phrase can signal stalling. Cogdell says people often use it to distance themselves from the truth while they buy time to think of an answer.
2. “To be honest…”
If you need to announce honesty, what were you being before that? The phrase can suggest overcompensation.
3. “I always…” or “I never…”
Absolute statements are usually unrealistic. Very few people always or never do anything, which makes these claims suspicious.
4. Repeating the question back
Example: When asked: “Where were you last night?” They say: “Where was I last night?”
This can indicate someone is buying time to invent a response
5. Deflecting instead of answering
Dodging with defensiveness – like responding to a direct question with irritation or accusation – is often a telltale sign of evasion.
Caveat: Cogdell stresses these are clues, not proof. Context, personality, and communication style all matter.

WEIRD NEWS
A cozy new TikTok trend claims to deliver the ultimate night’s sleep: the “potato bed.” The method involves flipping a fitted sheet upside down, stuffing the edges with pillows and blankets, piling more blankets in the center, and climbing in…to create a snug cocoon. Fans say the setup promotes relaxation and a sense of safety. Dr. Rachel Salas of Johns Hopkins says the appeal reflects a desire for comfort and may reduce anxiety by mimicking the feeling of being held. However, experts warn it’s not for everyone. The enclosed setup can be unsafe for children, pets, or those with mobility issues, it may cause overheating, and could lead to poor sleeping positions. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3d4snjpe
