THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

I broke up with my girlfriend and now she wants me to pay for a vacation. We've been dating for almost two years. When we met, we actually worked together. She had a video that went viral about a year ago. She quit her job and became an “influencer” instead of working. That's cool. She did OK and it made her happy. The only problem I had with any of this was that I became a prop. She needed to keep the videos going so I was no longer a real boyfriend, I was a caricature of what a boyfriend is. My family has been following her page and I've had some very honest and tough conversations with them. I had planned to get married. I wanted to marry her before she became a video idiot. Her whole life changed. All that matters now is content. She wanted me to do a bunch of videos that were for Valentine's Day... I finally told her no. It lead to us breaking up. Then she told me she booked a vacation for us and she wants me to pay for my half. I already told her that's insane. I'm not going on a vacation with her. I'm not paying for anything. I already broke up with here. I've moved on. She needs to as well. She has not called for a few days, so I hope this is over, but do you have any advice if she starts calling again?

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Most people think they can spot AI-made videos, and that belief alone is enough to shape how they judge brands. And that means that advertisers should put real people front and center, in their marketing, and not lean too heavily on artificial-looking content. An Animoto survey found that 83% of consumers believe they’ve seen AI-generated videos, and more than a third say that perception lowers their trust in the brand. Nearly 78% said they trust videos with real faces and voices more than those that feel fake. Even when audiences are wrong about whether a video used AI, the assumption alone can hurt advertiser’s credibility. The report advises marketers to use AI as a behind-the-scenes tool for speeding up workflows, but not as a replacement for human presence, or for creative judgment.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Amber Heard makes an unexpected appearance in a timely new documentary premiering at the Sundance Film Festival, about accused men weaponizing defamation lawsuits to silence women speaking out about abuse. “Silenced,” from director Selina Miles and human rights lawyer Jennifer Robinson, debuted on Saturday in the world cinema category at the festival. It follows numerous women, including a journalist, who were impeded in their search for justice, thanks to 9-figure defamation suits.

Peacock has issued a warning to “The Traitors” viewers as the game heats up, after growing negative discourse spread on social media, as the Faithful try to uncover Traitors in the game. As viewers debate which celeb contestant has the best strategy, the streamer released a statement saying in part: “The cast of The Traitors are real people, and what happens in the game should never lead to cyberbullying or harassment. There’s a difference between discussing a show and targeting individuals. Let’s not ruin the passion for this show with unwarranted negativity and personal attacks.” Last summer, Peacock issued a statement thanking “Love Island USA” fans for their passion, but reminding them to “be kind” and “spread love” instead of hate.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

Universal Orlando Resort has announced a new roller coaster, “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift”, set to open in 2027. Inspired by the blockbuster film franchise, the attraction will mirror a similar high-speed coaster at Universal Studios Hollywood, which is nearing completion and expected to debut this year. The ride promises intense thrills, including 360-degree drifting effects and a dramatic 170-foot vertical spike that launches riders nearly 17 stories into the air in fully rotational ride vehicles designed to look like iconic Fast & Furious cars. WEIRD NEWS

Cops in Albany NY are searching for Lamont Holmes, after he missed a court appearance and allegedly tried to evade tracking by attaching his court-ordered GPS ankle monitor…to a dog. He was due in County Court on Tuesday for a pre-sentencing hearing on weapons charges. After he failed to appear, probation officials reported that he had cut off the monitor and affixed it to a dog in Rensselaer County. A loose dog wearing the device was later found in the town of Nassau, where a veterinarian alerted police. A judge has issued a bench warrant. Holmes faces up to 15 years in prison.

THE LIST

If you’ve already failed at your New Year’s resolutions, you’re definitely not alone. But that doesn’t mean the year is lost. These 7 small, science-backed habits are easy to start, easy to maintain, and can still meaningfully improve your mood, health, and productivity…

1. Drink a glass of water first thing each morning: Hydrating immediately after waking can reduce grogginess, improve focus, and make it easy to stay hydrated throughout the day. Keeping water by your bed makes this habit almost effortless.

2. Stretch a little throughout the day: Simple daily stretching helps prevent stiffness, supports mobility, and is linked to better overall health as you age. Even brief stretches while waiting for coffee or sitting at your desk can make a difference.

3. Read physical books — preferably outdoors: Reading just 5 pages a day builds focus and feels more rewarding than screen time. Natural outdoor light may also help support eye health and visual processing.

4. Visit a museum or art gallery once a month: Museum visits combine gentle exercise, mental stimulation, and stress relief in one activity. Research suggests regular engagement with the arts is linked to better cognitive health and longevity.

5. Brush for 2 minutes and floss twice daily: Good oral hygiene isn’t just about your teeth – it’s associated with lower risks of heart disease, cognitive decline, and chronic inflammation. Few habits offer such a high health payoff for so little effort.

6. Add a handful of nuts to your meals: Nuts provide healthy fats that support brain, heart, and gut health. Swapping chips or sweets for almonds, walnuts, pistachios, or peanuts is a simple nutritional upgrade.

7. Lean into nostalgia and your inner child: Revisiting activities you loved when you were younger – like arcades, zoos, or playful hobbies – can boost happiness and strengthen social connections. Research shows nostalgia supports emotional well-being and deeper friendships.
