SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Many of today’s teens are putting off the rite of passage of getting their driver’s license. A 2020 study from the University of California Irvine Medical School revealed that nearly 40% of teens delayed getting their license by 1-2 years, and 30% delayed by more than 2 years. That continues a trend seen over the last 20 years: Between 2006-15, the number of high school seniors with a driver’s license dropped from 81% to 72%. Reasons given by teens for not getting licensed as soon as possible include the availability of rideshare apps, being “too busy”, financial concerns, and mental health issues.

Ay, caramba! Nancy Cartwright, the iconic voice of ‘Bart Simpson’, will pull back the curtain on the “The Simpsons” show in her first podcast. She is launching “Simpsons Declassified With Nancy Cartwright” with co-host Sofy Kurtz. Cartwright — who in addition to Bart, provides the voices of ‘Ralph Wiggum’, ‘Nelson Muntz’, ‘Todd Flanders’, ‘Maggie Simpson’, and others, promises to share untold stories from the animated series, including behind-the-scenes moments and personal anecdotes from the writers room and behind the mic. Each episode will explore the show’s most jaw-dropping predictions and conspiracies, joined by guest stars, writers, directors and celebrities.
At long last, ‘Carrie’, ‘Miranda’ and ‘Charlotte’ are coming back. Max has released the trailer for Season 3 of “And Just Like That…” the streamer’s follow-up to “Sex and the City.” The first trailer for the 12-episode season, which kicks off with its May 29 premiere, shows all the ladies kicking off new chapters in the summertime — Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) dives into the world of romantic fiction; Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) takes on a new job and potential relationship; and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) finds her daughter with a new romance blooming. And, of course, there’s ‘Aidan’ (John Corbett), who rekindled his romance with Carrie last season while navigating long distance woes. The clip also teases some complications, especially for Carrie, who, at one point in the video, runs away from a pack of rats… LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2s3hxp6a

The conclave to elect the 267th Pope will begin May 7th. The cardinals will go into seclusion in St. Peter’s Basilica until they choose a new Pope.
Apparently, the 5-second rule isn’t a rule at all. A Chicago microbiologist has put the famous saying to the test scientifically, determine if it’s safe to eat food that’s fallen on the floor, as seen in a TikTok clip with over 1 million views. Nicholas Aicher is a senior quality control analyst with nearly 450,000 followers on his TikTok channel. He posts videos of himself testing the cleanliness of everyday items. For this one, he placed a petri dish on the ground for various time limits ranging from zero seconds to 1 minute. He then incubated the samples in a cultivator to see the extent to which they bore bacterial fruit. Every sample had evidence of microbial growth, proving that no amount of floor time is safe when it comes to contamination. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/385jf5m9

WEIRD NEWS
Several crosswalk buttons in 3 California cities have been disabled after they were tampered with — to play fake audio clips in the voices of Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk. Videos show crosswalk buttons in Redwood City, Menlo Park and Palo Alto being pressed and, instead of the usual pedestrian alerts, one says: “Hi, this is Mark Zuckerberg, but real ones call me the Zuck. You know, it’s normal to feel uncomfortable or even violated as we forcefully insert AI into every facet of your conscious experience. And I just want to assure you, you don’t need to worry, because there’s absolutely nothing you can do to stop it. Anyway, see ya.” Another, claiming to be Musk, offers to give Cybertrucks to people in exchange for being his friend, because: “You don’t know the level of depravity I would stoop to just for a crumb of approval. I mean, let’s be real, it’s not like I had any moral convictions to begin with.” 12 crosswalks in Palo Alto alone were affected. All have since been disabled.
