THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
So, I have 3 kids, but not with my current wife. I had them in a previous relationship. But, my wife, takes really good care of my kids, she picks them up, buys them things they need, cooks for them, takes care of them in my absence if the situation arises. We were recently at the store getting our necessities for the week and she said "what are you getting me for mothers day..?" I immediately replied with "nothing, you're not a mom." And sometimes my humor crosses over to both seriousness and sarcasm. So I don't think she read into it. I wasn't being mean, or rude or really anything, I was just stating that she's not a mom technically. She said but I'm a step mom. To which I couldn't argue that, yes she is. She also not only takes care of the kids, but she takes care of me from time to time, she's there when I need, she takes care of the dogs, she holds down the fort when I get sent away for military stuff, she cleans, cooks, does the lawn, she even gives me my own pedis and manis at home, when I slack or get behind. Between the two of us, we can't have more kids, so she does treat my kids and our dogs as if they are her own, they can be a handful at times, but that never stops her. We can all argue that step moms do fill a vital role in kid's lives but I guess on the surface, I was just saying, you didn't birth them. I'm not sure how to word this and I was beginning to think I gave the wrong reply to her. I am really not sure how to approach this. And by the time this is seen or reviewed mother's day will be done and passed but what if someone else is faced with this too? What are your thoughts?

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
It’s an awkward situation, and you never know quite how to react. Would YOU tell a co-worker that their breath stinks? Just 1 in 4 of us would, according to a new poll. The recent survey of 2,000 Americans by Affordable Dentures & Implants found that 86% feel that they would tell someone else about their breath issues, most likely their partner (69%), followed by friends and family members, tied at 43%. As I mentioned, it’s a little more difficult to broach that subject with a co-worker, with just 24% willing to mention breath issues to a colleague. Men were found to be more likely to be the bearers of bad breath news, with 28% willing to speak to a fellow worker about the situation, compared to 21% of women. Among friends, 45% of men would speak up, compared to 40% of women. And on a first date? Just 13% thought thy would have the nerve to speak up about bad breath. 12% said they’d cut their losses – and end the date early. And by the way, 62% said that at some point, they have been on the receiving end of that unpleasant conversation.

In a recent podcast, David Spade revealed he was pitched an idea to make a sequel to “Tommy Boy,” his 1995 buddy comedy with the late Chris Farley. But for him, without Farley, it was a no-go. He explained that the idea came up 2 years ago, but he said to himself: “I can’t find a scenario with no Chris Farley. He was the whole movie.” Spade shut the pitch down immediately, because it would have been “too much of a sell-out”. The 2 actors were close friends and were “SNL” co-stars for 5 years before headlining Tommy Boy together.
“Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul has signed on to star in psychological thriller “The Midnight Pool”. He’ll play ‘Johnny Black’, a jaded journalist who, after a personal tragedy, is lured into the shadows of an elite, exclusive society, where the pursuit of a career-defining story becomes a descent into illusion, manipulation and altered realities. Filming is set to begin on location in Europe later this year.
The Walt Disney Co. is bringing a new Disney theme park and resort to Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. The new destination will be the company’s 7th global resort, and its first in the Middle East. Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro said the new park and resort will be the company’s most “modern” destination yet, and will also be its most “tech-forward” park. No word on an opening date.

A man had to be rescued from a mountain in Japan twice in 4 days – after he returned to search for his cell phone. The climber, a 27-year-old Chinese student living in Japan, was airlifted with altitude sickness from near the peak of Mount Fuji after making an emergency call on April 22 due to symptoms of altitude sickness. On the 26th, he returned to the mountain’s Fujinomiya trail, about 10,000 feet above sea level, to search for his phone and other belongings that he had left behind when he was rescued.
