SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Turns out, a lot of us still need a refresher on something we all learned in kindergarten: wash your hands, people. A new survey from the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases found that nearly half of Americans either forget – or just decide not to wash their hands at important times — like after hitting the grocery store, eating out, or leaving a doctor’s office. Yikes. On the other hand, some people did pick up better habits during the pandemic. About a third said they’re scrubbing up more now than back then. Most people (62%) knew the gold standard: soap and water for 20 seconds. But only 30% said they would wash up after coughing or sneezing — even though germs love that shortcut. And why are people NOT washing their hands at key times? Forgetfulness was #1, but 20% admitted they just didn’t think it was necessary, they were in a rush, or they didn’t want to end up with dry hands.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Kevin Pollak has joined Sylvester Stallone and the cast of “Tulsa King” Season 3 at Paramount+. Pollak will appear in the series regular role of ‘Special Agent Musso’, described as “an FBI agent who has an axe to grind.” Pollak was ranked as one of Comedy Central’s top 100 comedians of all time, and is known for his role as ‘Moishe’ in the Amazon series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Jay Leno recently appeared on “In Depth With Graham Bensinger” and looked back at his since-resolved feud with Jimmy Kimmel. That started in 2010 when Kimmel guested on “The Tonight Show” after Leno was reinstated as host following Conan O’Brien’s tumultuous exit. According to Leno, Kimmel “humiliated” him on his own show, and he “never had it edited”. Kimmel repeatedly fired off jokes at Leno’s expense, and at the time, Leno felt: “It was my mistake…Ok, I should pay the price.” Leno and Kimmel have since settled their feud, starting with Leno’s decision to call Kimmel after the latter’s son had heart surgery in 2017. Kimmel has said he “made peace” with Leno, thanks to the kind gesture.
Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka are doling out the paired drink recipes — for drinkers and non-drinkers alike. This September, the duo will be releasing “Both Sides of the Glass: Paired Cocktails and Mocktails to Toast Any Taste”. The book comes out of the desire for the couple to share both the tasty, alcoholic libations that Harris enjoys, while making sure that Burtka, who is 8 years sober, doesn’t have to miss out on any of those special “raising a glass” moments.
DID YA KNOW!?
Smells can pass through liquid. Please don’t try smelling underwater (your nose will not appreciate it), but smell does protrude through liquid.

OF THE DAY
A study shows that people who vent their anger live longer.
105-year-old Julia Hawkins just set a world record as the oldest track & field competitor.
You might have heard that the often-cited goal of 10,000 steps per day is a number that was simply plucked out of thin air by the guy who invented the pedometer. But regardless of that, the fact remains that walking is good for you. And now, there’s another reason for upping your daily step count: It reduces your risk of developing depression. That’s the message from a study published in the journal JAMA Network Open. Researchers found that taking 1,000 steps extra a day can reduce the risk of depression by 9%, and a daily step count of 7,000 or more was linked with a 31% lower risk of depression.

WEIRD NEWS
It certainly would make a good conversation piece: A wallet or purse made from dinosaur skin. A group of luxury brands and biotech companies claims to be creating the first products made of extinct T-Rex leather. Wait. How? Apparently the new, old products are made by extracting collagen from ancient fossils. The company VML has joined forces with genomic innovators The Organoid Company, and sustainable biotechnology firm Lab-Grown Leather, to create what they’re calling the world’s first T-Rex leather made using the extinct creature’s DNA. The companies claim their next-gen material would be a high-quality, cruelty-free, and eco-friendly alternative to standard leather. The first products could be available in time for the Christmas shopping season.
