SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Let’s face it — most of us aren’t exactly crushing it at the gym. But here’s some good news: even tiny bursts of everyday movement can give your heart a serious boost. A study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that things like hustling up the stairs, power-walking to catch the bus, or lugging grocery bags inside can slash your risk of heart attack and stroke — especially for women. Researchers followed over 22,000 people for nearly 8 years, and found that women who sprinkled in about 3-4 minutes a day of these quick, intense movements were up to 45% less likely to suffer major heart issues. And for those who managed to squeeze in a few more bursts of energy, the benefits got even bigger. The researchers caution that this info isn’t a free pass to ditch all workouts forever (sorry), but it’s still good news if you’re not into treadmills or spin class. As study author Emmanuel Stamatakis put it, “This kind of activity is doable — no fancy gym, no travel, no time block required.”

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Vin Diesel won’t let up on a movie version of a classic TV show. The “Fast and Furious” star is continuing to tease a potential reboot of the crime drama “Kojak”. It ran from 1973-78, and revolved around NYPD Lieutenant Theophilus “Theo” Kojak, played by Telly Savalas. We don’t have much info about Diesel’s possible reboot, but it seems to be finally moving forward. Fans have been waiting for over 10 years for the film since it was first mentioned.

For the first time, Paramount execs are speaking out about several of the rumored “Yellowstone” spin-off shows, including one set to star ‘Beth’ and ‘’Rip, played by Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser. Co-CEO Chris McCarthy not only spilled the working name of the show, “Dutton Ranch”, he shared that it is slated to debut this fall. News that the onscreen couple would have a new series leaked late last year, with Reilly seemingly confirming it on social media. The Beth and Rip show is one of at least 4 reported spin-offs from Yellowstone, beyond existing shows like “1883” and “1923”

Robert De Niro and Jenna Ortega ARE set to star in the new film “Shutout.” It will tell the story of ‘Jake Kejeune’, played by DeNiro, an aging pool hustler and one of the last practitioners of a dying art. After years spent chasing wins in smoky, underground halls, he crosses paths with Ortega’s ‘Mia’, a talented newcomer whose passion reignites his own. Seeing the potential to shape the next great player, Jake becomes her mentor, guiding her through the high-stakes, cutthroat world of professional pool.

DID YA KNOW!?

Our dead cells are eaten by other cells in our body. Don’t worry; it’s meant to happen. When cells inside your body die, they’re scavenged by phagocytes – white blood cells whose job it is to digest other cells.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

The price of oil fell well below $60 dollars a barrel.

An AI app has been launched that claims to be able to help you to “cheat on everything”. Cluely works by tracking a user’s screen in a virtual meeting – for example, a job interview or a sales call – and offering clever responses. Its promotional video shows also shows how the app can be used to lie to a date. If you’re interested, the Cluely app will cost you $20 a month for a subscription.

According to a trial lawyer and podcaster, there are 2 words that are “dead giveaways” that someone is telling a lie – and he knows how to get them to confess. On a recent episode of “Diary of a CEO”, Jefferson Fisher shared that when people are trying to hide the truth, they often rely on absolutes, like “never” or “always”. He used the example of someone claiming they never text when they drive. According to Fisher, extremes like “always” and “never” are a “dead giveaway that they’re usually not telling the truth,” Jefferson said. To catch a liar, he advises you slowly repeat the question, to which the person will likely say: “Well, I mean sometimes I do.”

WEIRD NEWS

A British man who paid more than $26,000 to replace his stolen car discovered he had actually bought his own vehicle back. Ewan Valentine discovered on Feb. 28 that his black Honda Civic Type-R had been stolen from its overnight parking space. He decided to replace the car with a nearly-identical vehicle, and posted: “Sure enough, I found one for sale. Same color, same year, same custom exhaust system.” The plates and VIN were different from his stolen vehicle, so he went ahead and bought it. But after he noticed some familiar-looking snack wrappers in the console, he decided to check the car’s GPS – and discovered it had previously been to his house – and his parents’ house. A Honda dealership confirmed the VIN was fake, and it was indeed his car. Valentine said he does not believe the garage that sold him the car knew it was stolen.
