SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

So – astrology: Is it a reliable predictor of what’s in store for you, is it a fun and harmless distraction – or is the diabolic work of the devil, and must be avoided? Well, it turns out that about 3 in 10 of us dabble in astrology, tarot, or fortune tellers at least once a year. But most don’t take it too seriously. According to a recent Pew Research Center survey of Americans, only about 1% say they rely heavily on those readings to make big life decisions. For most, it’s either just for fun, or a source of occasional insight. Still, it’s big business: the psychic services industry raked in $2.3 billion last year and employs over 100,000 people. Who’s most into it? Younger adults—especially younger women—are the most frequent users, with about 4 in 10 women under 50 saying they believe in astrology. On the flip side, older adults, conservatives, and college grads are the least likely to believe or participate.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

The official release dates for Season 5 of Netflix’s beloved supernatural series “Stranger Things” have been announced, and yes – there are more than one. The show’s final season will hit the streamer in 3 chunks, with “Volume 1” premiering November 26, “Volume 2” on Christmas Day, and the grand finale on New Year’s Eve. Fans have been waiting for Season 5 since 2022 – when Season 4 aired. The delay was, in part, due to the actors’ and writers’ strikes of 2023.

Phil Robertson may be gone, but the team behind “Duck Dynasty” kept his memory alive – by paying tribute during Sunday’s series premiere of the show’s revival. The Robertson family patriarch — who passed away May 25, appeared in archival footage in the first episode of “Duck Dynasty: The Revival.” It’s the only part of the show that will touch on Phil’s death, because according to sources, no new footage was shot to capture the family’s reaction. The family will address Phil’s death in season 2, in order to stay true to the show’s authenticity.

“John Candy: I Like Me,” a documentary from director Colin Hanks and producer Ryan Reynolds, will open the 50th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival. John Candy: I Like Me presents an unvarnished look at the funnyman’s life on and off camera, featuring home videos and candid interviews with his family, friends and collaborators. It’ll screen on Sept. 4 at Roy Thomson Hall. Toronto-born Candy rose to fame on Canada’s sketch comedy show “SCTV” and went on to star in films such as “Spaceballs,” “Uncle Buck,” “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” “National Lampoon’s Vacation” and “Little Shop of Horrors.” He died of a heart attack at age 43 in 1994.

DID YA KNOW!?

If your job has you feeling tense, your dog might be feeling it too. A new study published in Scientific Reports found that stress from your work can affect your dog at home. The researchers said that when dog owners dwell on work problems after hours, a habit known as “work-related rumination,” their pets show more signs of stress. Previous research has shown this happens between spouses, but this is the first evidence that it can happen people and their pets.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

Five years ago, during the early stages of the pandemic, there were doubts whether the cruise industry would survive. But now, it has more than rebounded – enough that a growing number of companies are now offering niche, themed cruises. In fact, these days, it’s more a question of what there ISN’T a cruise dedicated to than what there IS. There are cruises for hobbies like crafting and knitting, or for nostalgia, such as the ’70s Rock and Romance Cruise. TV is also a major source of cruise-theme fodder. CrimeCruise is geared toward true crime fans. There are also cruises for Star Trek, The Golden Girls, and even Hallmark Christmas movies. Or, you could opt for Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘N’ Wrestling Rager at Sea. And, of course, there are the live-music-on-the-high-seas cruises. Some that are scheduled for this year and next include: The Soul Train Cruise, The Outlaw Country Cruise, The Flower Power Cruise, and the Emo’s Not Dead Cruise, which is expected to attract a demo with an average of 35, much younger than the average cruise customer.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

If you have a favorite quote.... you can send it to us at the bottom of the page at JohnAndHeidiShow.com

"Tardiness is not something you can do all on your own. Many, many people contributed to my tardiness. I would like to thank my parents for never giving me a ride to school, the L.A. city bus driver for taking a chance on an unknown kid. And, last but not least, the wonderful crew of McDonald's for spending hours making those Egg McMuffins, without which I might never be tardy." – Travis, "Clueless" (1995)

WEIRD NEWS

We’re sure many men have jokingly fantasized about it — and now they actually can have access to Sydney Sweeney’s bathwater – sort of. The “Euphoria” star has partnered with soap brand Dr. Squatch to sell a limited-edition line of bars…which are supposedly infused with her bathwater. In a series of Instagram posts, she announced that “Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss” soap bars will be available this Friday. It’s actually the second time Sweeney has made cash from splash, following her now-viral ad for Dr. Squatch Natural Body Wash last October, which featured her in a bubble bath speaking to “dirty little boys.” In last Thursday’s post, she said: “Introducing Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss! A very real, very limited-edition soap made with my actual bathwater.” The soap is said to be “a perfect combination of the two best places on the planet: The outdoors and Sydney Sweeney’s bathtub. Experience the ultimate blend of outdoor serenity with refreshing notes of pine, Douglas fir, earthy moss, and a touch of Sydney’s very own bathwater.” Priced at $8, Sydney’s Bathwater Bliss will be June 6 at drsquatch.com on June 6.
