SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

A nap might sound like the perfect midday treat, but a new study suggests it might not be as harmless as it seems. Researchers looked at over 86,000 people in the UK, and found that those who took longer naps, had irregular nap habits, or snoozed between 11am and 3pm were more likely to die early — even after adjusting for overall health and lifestyle. The findings challenge the idea of the classic “power nap,” especially since those midday snoozes are usually considered ideal. Bottom line: your nap game might need a rethink.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Tom Cruise and Dolly Parton will be among this year’s recipients of honorary Oscars. They join choreographer, actor and director Debbie Allen and production designer Wynn Thomas, all scheduled to receive special Oscars at this year’s governors’ awards in November. Academy president Janet Yang called them “four legendary individuals whose extraordinary careers and commitment to our film-making community continue to leave a lasting impact”.

Tyler Perry’s lawyer calls a $260 million lawsuit against the filmmaker a “shakedown” and “a scam”. Actor Derek Dixon is suing Perry for over alleged sexual harassment, assault and retaliation. Dixon accuses Perry of creating “a coercive, sexually exploitative dynamic” between them while he was starring in the shows “The Oval” and “Ruthless”. The complaint accuses Perry of “promising him career advancement and creative opportunities…only to subject him to escalating sexual harassment, assault and battery, and professional retaliation when Mr. Dixon did not reciprocate Mr. Perry’s unwanted advances.”

Kelsey Grammer’s family is growing again! The 70-year-old “Frasier” star and his wife Kayte Walsh, who is 46, are expecting their 4th baby together, his 8th child. Grammer was photographed in London with his pregnant wife as they strolled through a park. In May he opened up about being a father to 7, telling People mag that since he’s had his 3 younger kids, he’s been “playing catch up” with his older ones.

DID YA KNOW!?

If you’ve ever tried taking a road trip with a 3½-year-old, you’re not the only one who thinks that’s an example of pure chaos. A new survey of 2,000 parents found that age is officially the hardest to travel with. Why? For starters, 3½-year-olds get bored in seconds. Then come the car tantrums and the general lack of enthusiasm for being stuck in a vehicle. Over half of parents admit they’ve flat-out avoided trips with kids of certain ages, because they knew it would be a nightmare.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

A study found that poor posture caused by texting is becoming an epidemic.

Airline food is getting an upgrade — and it’s not your typical mystery meat. Delta has teamed up with Shake Shack to bring the burger joint’s famous cheeseburgers to first-class passengers on flights over 900 miles. The catch? You’ve got to pre-order it. The burger is made with 100% Angus beef, melty cheese, and served on a toasted potato bun with the works — lettuce, tomato, and that iconic Shack Sauce. No fries yet — but you do get Shake Shack-branded chips, Caesar salad, and a brownie. Delta says getting that signature burger flavor at 35,000 feet took 10 rounds of Research & Development, plus a whole lot of taste tests at Shake Shack’s Innovation Kitchen. The hard work paid off — it’s now the most requested pre-select item onboard. Delta recently expanded the Shake Shack menu to 13 hubs throughout the US.

WEIRD NEWS

Instant ramen maker Cup Noodles is releasing a new flavor that’s sure to appeal to Gen Z, young millennials – and especially anyone who follows TikTok trends. Dill Pickle is their latest limited-release, blending tangy, briny pickle vibes with classic instant noodles. Cup Noodles says this mashup tastes “fabulous,” even if it strays from their usual chicken and veggie flavors. It drops this Saturday at select Walmart and Albertsons stores in the US for $1.17. This isn’t their first quirky flavor. They’ve done s’mores and breakfast, too, all part of a plan to roll out more bold options. And with ramen sales booming — thanks to inflation and social media hacks — the timing works perfectly. Meanwhile, NestlĂ© just entered the game with Maggi noodles from India, offering spicy, globally inspired options.
