THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

I love how enthusiastic my fiancĂ©'s mother has been about out upcoming wedding. She has gone with me to every planning session. Her favorite trip was when we recently picked up my wedding dress. I have been saving for this dress for a while and have dreamed of it for years. It cost me $3,000. She loved it, too. In fact, maybe she liked it too much, because she asked me if she could try it on and have a photo of her in it. I told her that I wasn’t comfortable with that, but she kept insisting. I said maybe after the wedding, but not before. She was disappointed. On Saturday, I came home from shopping and my fiance was in the living room. I headed for our bedroom, and he tried to stop me. His mom was in my wedding dress admiring herself in the mirror. I freaked out and demanded she take it off. I called her a “sick, twisted bitch” and to get out of my apartment. My fiance went with her. Later, we had a fight when I told him his mother had to buy me a new dress. He says that I am way overreacting, and he tells me the first thing that needs to happen is that I apologize for calling his mother a name. My parents think I need to be the bigger person, apologize, and move on, but this is my wedding dress, and I am the only person who should wear it. I’m angry at both of them and seriously considering postponing the wedding.

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Everyone says they want honesty in a relationship, but do we really want “brutal honesty”? It turns out, yes. And the brutal truth might even make your bond stronger. A new study from the University of Rochester found that being upfront with your partner, even about tough topics, leads to better emotional well-being, and greater relationship satisfaction. Researchers brought long-term couples into a lab and asked each person to request a real change from their partner — you know, the kind of conversation most of us dread. They found that when people were more honest (even if the delivery was awkward), both partners actually felt better afterward. Three months later, couples who had those open conversations reported still reported feeling better and noticing positive changes. So, while honesty might feel risky in the moment, it’s actually a long-term win for love.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

The latest “Hunger Games” movie has expanded its cast with 2 awards show heavy hitters. Glenn Close and Billy Porter have been added to “Sunrise on the Reaping”, to play ‘Drusilla Sickle’ and ‘Magno Stift’, respectively. They join previously announced cast members Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, Ben Wang, Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning and Kieran Culkin. The prequel movie about the 50th Hunger Games is scheduled for release in November 2026.

The Boys” star Erin Moriarty took to Instagram with an unexpected health update, captioning her post: “Autoimmune disease manifests differently in everybody/every body.” She wrote: “A month ago, I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. Within 24 hours of beginning treatment, I felt the light coming back on. It’s been increasing in strength ever since.” She also cautioned her followers: “Your experience will be different from mine. My experience will be different from yours…if I hadn’t chalked it all up to stress and fatigue, I would’ve caught this sooner.”

Stanley Tucci is heading back to Italy after Nat Geo renewed his docuseries “Tucci In Italy” for a second season. The series, which premiered last month, has been picked up for another 5 episodes. He’ll meet local chefs, historians, farmers, winemakers, and artisans to uncover the lesser-known culinary rituals that define each region. Tucci is evidently game for an unusual meal, having eaten tripe, lard and salad served in a vase in Season 1.

DID YA KNOW!?

As you might be aware, many Apple and Android smartwatches include features designed to detect falls and collisions, automatically notifying either a designated contact or placing a call to emergency services if it detects particularly jarring movement by the wearer – but these features can be accidentally triggered too. Prior to last weekend’s 3-day Download Festival in the UK, Leicestershire Police took to social media to remind rock fans to either take off their smartwatches or turn off the feature. Why? In recent years, during the music fest, considered by many to be a Mecca for metal fans, around 700 accidental emergency calls were made — as a result of moshing.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

A survey says that 95% of us say we have no patience for listening to voicemail.

We’ve got a winner! Lay’s just crowned its 2025 “Do Us A Flavor” champion — and the top chip is Bacon Grilled Cheese. Submitted by Paula George from Sapulpa, Oklahoma, the flavor was inspired by her late father’s signature sandwich, combining crispy bacon and melty cheese in every bite. George wins the $1 million prize, beating out over 700,000 entries (seriously), including the other top finalists Valentina & Lime and Wavy Korean-Style Fried Chicken. The new nostalgic, savory creation joins past winners like Cheesy Garlic Bread in Lay’s flavor hall of fame. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/33anfb5d

Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, one of the world’s busiest, faced a bizarre security breach when a DoorDash driver accidentally ended up on the tarmac. The 36-year-old man followed his GPS into a restricted area and drove several miles along secure airport roads. He was eventually stopped near a plane at Gate C16. Despite the alarming breach, officials determined the driver was simply lost and meant no harm. No charges were filed—but the incident has raised serious questions about airport security and GPS navigation near sensitive areas.
