Pralines Day
SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
How much would you pay for one quiet, obligation-free day? According to a new survey, the average American would shell out $2,521 for just 24 hours of peace — and if you’re a parent, make that $3,668. The survey, which included 2,000 people (30% of them parents), found we only get about 9.5 hours of true alone time per month. The top barriers? Family (50%), work (32%), and money (24%). Social obligations and even guilt for taking time alone made the list, too. More than half of respondents said they desperately need more “me-time”, and 38% admit to lying to escape—most often saying “I’m not feeling well” or “I have work to do.” Parents value a lazy morning to themselves at $325. And an extra hour of sleep? That’s worth $340. No wonder 40% said they have booked a vacation just for peace and quiet.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Felicity Huffman is joining the cast of “Doc” for Season 2. She joins the cast as Molly Parker’s character, ‘Dr. Amy Larsen’s’ former med school professor ‘Dr. Joan Ridley’, a new addition to the hospital staff. This marks Huffman’s first series regular role since the college admissions scandal. She was previously tapped to star in a potential law-based spinoff of “The Good Doctor” that did not make it to series at ABC, and she guest starred in “Accused.”
Netflix has set July 9 for the premiere of its music competition series “Building the Band”, with the late Liam Payne as guest judge. They wrapped the show prior to Payne’s death last October and had faced a dilemma over how to proceed. Payne’s “family reviewed the series and is supportive of his inclusion,” Netflix said in a statement. Payne died after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires. Five people have been charged in connection with his death.
A cartoon version of “Doctor Who” is heading to BBC pre-school channel CBeebies. The show will see the Doctor traveling through time and space for the pre-school audience, solving mysteries and problems alongside their companions and other friends. And, of course, they may come up against a few challenges on their way, the BBC said. The animation version of the show comes as the second season of “Dr. Who” has just wrapped, under returned showrunner Russell T. Davies.
DID YA KNOW!?
According to new research, the average beard contains more germs than some toilets. A report in the Washington Post revealed a dense and diverse microbial population that thrives in facial hair, which is influenced by factors such as temperature, pH, humidity and nutrient availability. Beards create a warm, often moist environment where food debris and oils can accumulate – ideal conditions for microbial growth. Experts recommend washing your beard and face every day, and using a beard comb to clear debris.

OF THE DAY
A survey says that 11% of new parents say they’ve fallen asleep in the shower.
Wendy’s has rolled out 3 exclusive new Powerade flavors through its Coca Cola Freestyle machines: ‘Powerade Extra Sour Cherry Kicker’, ‘Grape Shocker’, and ‘Peach Pucker’ — each available in both full sugar and sugar free versions. And in a bold twist, all 3 have an “extra sour” profile—Cherry, Grape, and Peach—with a tart edge. The company says the new flavors are aimed at keeping customers refreshed and replenished with electrolytes during the summer months. It seems to be part of a trend among fast food chains of launching unique beverages—think Taco Bell’s Baja Blast or KFC’s Sweet Lightning.

WEIRD NEWS
When your time comes, would you like to be “flushed”, instead of buried or cremated? A new consultation in the UK is exploring “gentler” funeral options, including alkaline hydrolysis—sometimes nicknamed “boil and flush” or “flush and bone.” It’s a process where the body is dissolved in a warm alkaline solution, leaving just bones, teeth, and liquid. The bones and teeth are ground into powder and returned to the family, while the liquid goes down the drain. This method of body disposal, already allowed in parts of Canada, Australia, and Ireland, is seen as more eco-friendly. Now, a movement is gaining traction to allow it in the UK, with some calling it the biggest funeral shift in over a century. Experts say the liquid is safe for wastewater systems. But the real issue is this: People in the UK aren’t quite ready for the idea. As one researcher put it, the biggest hurdle isn’t chemistry—it’s convincing people it’s not like “flushing grandma.”
