SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
While water is often thought of as the best way to stay hydrated, new research suggests some common beverages may do an even better job. A study from Scotland’s St. Andrews University found that drinks containing small amounts of sugar, fat, or protein — like milk — help the body retain fluid longer than water alone. Milk, for example, contains lactose, protein, fat, and sodium, all of which slow fluid loss and promote hydration. Oral rehydration solutions (like Pedialyte and Hydralyte), which contain sugars and electrolytes such as sodium and potassium, work similarly. But not all drinks are hydration heroes. Beverages high in sugar, like soda or fruit juice, can actually pull water into the intestines during digestion, potentially leaving the body less hydrated overall. And as for beer and coffee? Volume and caffeine matter. Beer, with its higher fluid content, is less dehydrating than hard liquor. And while moderate coffee consumption can hydrate similarly to water, high caffeine intake can have a diuretic effect — especially in those not used to it.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
“White Lotus” star Walton Goggins and sandwich chain Jimmy John’s have announced a new partnership that is part delicious sandwich, part bodice-ripping beach read. The announcement reads: “Now you can have the ultimate beach sandwich AND the ultimate beach read. Order using promo code BEACHREAD to unlock a steamy audiobook narrated by Walton Goggins. Part 1 of “The Blade & the Brine drops July 1 — straight to your email.” Yes, it sounds like a joke, but there’s even a trailer for The Blade and the Brine, featuring the “Righteous Gemstones” star. Preparation is officially underway for the next ‘James Bond’ movie. Denis Villeneuve, the Oscar-nominated French-Canadian film-maker, has been enlisted to direct the next ‘007’ chapter, Amazon MGM Studios has announced. The “Dune” director said in a statement that he is a “die-hard James Bond fan” and intends to “honor the tradition” of the franchise. Amazon didn’t give any hints on the next actor to play James Bond in the announcement. Daniel Craig stepped back from the role following the 2021 release of “No Time to Die”. No word on when the next Bond film will be shot and released.
Kim Kardashian is being eyed to star as the villain in an upcoming live-action “Bratz” film in development at Amazon MGM Studios. Not many details have been released, but this isn’t the first time the popular dolls have made it to the big screen. “Bratz: The Movie” was released in 2007. Kim is also not the first Kardashian to collaborate with the brand. Her sister Kylie Jenner launched 2 Bratz fashion dolls in 2023 as part of the Bratz x Kylie Fashion Dolls – Day and Night collection.
Aaron Sorkin is developing “The Social Network Part II,” the follow up to the Academy Award winning movie “The Social Network.” Sorkin’s screenplay explores the story behind the Wall Street Journal’s “The Facebook Files,” an explosive series of articles published in 2021, which exposed the inner workings of—and harms caused by—the world’s largest social network. Released in 2010 by Sony Pictures, “The Social Network”, starring Jesse Eisenberg as Mark Zuckerberg, was both a hit with audiences and critics, and earned $226 million globally.
DID YA KNOW!?
In 1980, 21-year-old Terry Fox set out on his legendary Marathon of Hope, running across Canada with one prosthetic leg to raise money for cancer research. Starting in St. John’s, Newfoundland, he ran 5,373 km in 143 days, wearing a pair of Adidas Orion shoes. Now, 45 years later, Adidas is re-releasing the iconic runners, with all proceeds going to cancer research. The limited-edition Orions feature navy, white, and gold details, including Terry’s name. As his brother Fred Fox said, they’re a symbol of Terry’s enduring legacy. The sneaker will be available July 3. LINK: https://terryfox.org/orion/

OF THE DAY
Walmart has expanded its drone delivery service to 3 more states, in a race against Amazon.
For the Fourth of July, Starbucks has jumped into the patriotic spirit with a limited-edition drink: the Firework Frappuccino – now available. The red, white, and blue creation blends Summer Berry Refresher, coconut milk, and strawberry purée, topped with vanilla sweet cream cold foam and raspberry pearls. And baristas are already hyped. On TikTok, @brycefortier99 shared the drink-making process, calling it “aesthetic” and surprisingly delicious — especially with the cold foam. On the other hand, @vondutchmaster joked she’s the only one at her store excited about it. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/yvk4encn

WEIRD NEWS
A Texas man was shocked to learn he was legally married – to the woman he had just broken up with – without ever attending a wedding. The 42-year-old, whose name has not been released, had previously applied for a marriage license with then-fiancée Kristin Marie Spearman, but the couple never wed after an argument ended their relationship. Days later, he received a Bath & Body Works gift bag containing a certified marriage license and a photo of Spearman holding it. Authorities say she must have managed to get a local pastor to certify the marriage — even though the groom wasn’t in attendance, and filed the license without his presence. Spearman has been arrested and charged with felony stalking.

THE RULES OF COOL:
Everyone wants to be considered “cool”. But what exactly makes someone cool? According to a global study of nearly 6,000 people across 13 countries, it turns out coolness is surprisingly universal. Whether you’re in Nigeria or New York, cool people tend to share the same 6 traits — and they’re not just about being “good.” Researchers found that cool people are consistently seen as outgoing, adventurous, independent, and fun. While “good” people are often viewed as kind, traditional, and rule-following, cool people tend to bend the rules, stand out, and spark change. Here are the 6 common traits of coolness that stood out across cultures:
Extraversion – They’re outgoing and socially confident.
Hedonism – They enjoy life and seek pleasure.
Power – They’re influential and respected.
Adventurousness – They take risks and embrace new experiences.
Openness – They’re curious, creative, and unconventional.
Autonomy – They follow their own path, not the crowd.
Basically, cool people dare—and care—to do their own thing.
