SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
It is sometimes said that money is the root of all evil. And apparently, it is also at the root of many secrets between partners as well – because according to new research, half of men have kept financial secrets from their partner. The most common hidden items? A secret savings account, undisclosed spending, or a “private” credit card. Many in the survey of 2,000 men said they stayed quiet about it out of embarrassment or shame — or they simply didn’t know how to bring it up. The study, commissioned for Men’s Mental Health Month, found a strong link between poor financial health and low mental well-being. Men who rated their finances poorly also reported the lowest mental health scores. Despite this connection, only 41% said they’d talk to their partner about their financial situation, and even fewer would open up to friends or family. Experts say this silence is hurting more than wallets — it’s damaging relationships and mental health.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Steve Burns left “Blues’ Clues” way back in 2002, but he never really left the show behind. Over the last few years he’s found new ways to reconnect with his (now grownup) audience — and now he’s launching a podcast aimed at adults. Burns said that “Alive”, which will debut this fall, will “continue what we started decades ago,” a reference to the Nickelodeon series that made him famous. Each week Burns and guests will discuss “what it means to stay human in a complicated world.”
The 99th anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s birth passed on June 1 with little press attention, but don’t expect the screen icon’s centennial to go similarly unnoticed. The year-long festivities leading up to her 100th birthday begin this month with the debut of Pantone’s Marilyn Monroe Collection Palette, an assortment of shades with names such as ‘Star White’ and ‘High Risk Red’. And earlier this month, it was announced that “Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon,” an exhibition exploring her public image through screen-used costumes, photographs, production documents, letters and other personal items, will kick off a 9-month run at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures on May 31, 2026.
John Travolta made a surprise appearance at Friday night’s “Grease” sing-a-long at the Hollywood Bowl dressed as his iconic 1950s bad boy character. He shared video on IG, writing: “Tonight…for the first time I surprised everyone at the ‘GREASE’ Sing-A-Long and dressed up as Danny Zuko. No one knew. Not even the cast. Thank you for a great evening.” In the video, Travolta swaggers on stage as the leather-clad greaser, as the packed Hollywood Bowl erupted in cheers. He then greeted the other original cast members on stage, before addressing the crowd. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2b6yhce4
“F1” is off to the races. The new Brad Pitt Formula One film grossing a projected $58 million over the weekend for top spot at the domestic box office. “M3GAN 2.0” earned less than half of its 2023 predecessor with an estimated opening of just $10 million – only good enough for 4th place. “How to Train Your Dragon” came second in its 3rd weekend, followed by Disney’s “Elio” in third place.
DID YA KNOW!?
The universally dreaded Microsoft Windows “blue screen of death” will soon be a thing of the past. The “screen of death” refers to the blue screen that appears when an error so terrible occurs that you’re forced to restart completely. In an announcement, Microsoft VP David Weston wrote: “Now it’s easier than ever to navigate unexpected restarts, and recover faster.” According to him, the updated User Interface for Windows 11 “improves readability” and preserves “the technical information on the screen for when it is needed.” The new version of the screen of death will be black — and they’re calling it the “Unexpected Restart” screen. It arrives this summer. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5aj9d82h

Summer 2025 is turning up the heat—literally. And with temps soaring into the danger zone, air conditioning isn’t just a luxury anymore, it has become a health essential. But what’s the right thermostat setting to stay safe and avoid a sky-high energy bill? Experts say 78°F (25.6°C) is the sweet spot for daytime comfort and energy efficiency. Of course, not everyone agrees — many prefer cooler settings — but setting the temperature a bit higher can cut costs. One idea is to bump it up about 4°F at night. Heading out? Set it 7°F higher to save even more. Some other easy ways to keep cool: close curtains, seal air leaks, avoid cooking with heat, and use fans (with AC, not instead of it). And remember to check on kids, seniors, and anyone vulnerable. If things get too hot, local cooling centers and public spaces can offer relief.

WEIRD NEWS
If you’re looking for a weird new bathroom trend, search no more. Meet “toilet flowers”—fresh blooms placed inside your toilet tank. Yep, the water tank behind the toilet bowl. The trend started with a viral video claiming it would “leave guests speechless” — but most viewers were less than impressed. Comments ranged from “Martha Sewer” to clever nicknames like “pooquet.” Experts and plumbers warned that flushing flower stems and food chemicals can clog pipes and mess up your plumbing. Instead of this gross gamble, a better suggestion might be simply putting flowers in a vase on the toilet lid or elsewhere in the bathroom. That’s much safer and way less messy!
