SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

COVID changed a lot about how we work — and for Gen Z, it also interrupted their learning how to work. Many entered the workforce during lockdowns and remote classes, and as a result, they may have missed out on internships, office culture, and face-to-face mentoring. Born between 1997-2012, according to Statistics Canada, Gen Z workers are entering the workforce during a period of generational change, and those gaps are becoming more visible. And now, with more and more companies calling people back to the office, experts say some Gen Z employees are lacking certain soft skills — like communication and professionalism. Etiquette expert Julie Blais Comeau says it’s not about assigning fault — it’s about gaps. From fewer family dinners to schools dropping lessons on manners, young professionals haven’t had as many chances to pick up those “micro-lessons.” The good news? Gen Z wants to learn. They’re eager for feedback and clarity—and when we approach etiquette as a tool, not a rulebook, everyone benefits.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

“Doctor Odyssey” may not be ready to go to port just yet. After it was reported that the ABC drama is basically dead in the water after one season as cast options expire, the network is saying differently. Multiple sources are reporting that ABC and 20th Television are still “discussing its future.” Previously, Disney Television Group President said that although the series “isn’t currently on our schedule,” they were continuing “creative conversations” with creator and producer Ryan Murphy.

In a revealing interview with The Telegraph, Johnny Depp opened up about the lasting scars from his abusive childhood and the turbulent period he faced after being pushed out of Hollywood. Reflecting on the torment he endured at the hands of his late mother who passed away in 2016, he said that she beat him with a stick, a shoe, “an ashtray, a phone, it didn’t matter, man.” But rather than be bitter, he said: “I thank her for that” because she taught him “how not to raise kids”, and his goal as a parent to Lily-Rose, who is 26, and Jack, who is 23, was to “just do the exact opposite of what she did.”

“Golden Bachelor” Mel Owens is already stirring controversy, and his season hasn’t even started filming. The 66-year-old former NFLer’s his journey to find love has already drawn criticism from Bachelor Nation, Hollywood stars, and now, his ex-wife, Fabiana Owens. When contacted by the Daily Mail, Fabiana didn’t hold back, saying: “Good luck. I mean, it’s going to be bad. But anyway, I don’t want to be involved in this.”

There’s a new leader atop Hollywood’s 2025 box office charts, as Disney’s remake of “Lilo & Stitch” has passed the global gross of “A Minecraft Movie” in its 7th weekend in theaters. The live-action remake added $3.8 million domestically, bringing its total to $408.5 million in North America, and $972.7 million worldwide. A Minecraft Movie”, which busted a multiweek drought that plagued the box office in April, grossed $954 million worldwide.

DID YA KNOW!?

Researchers at the US company Pattern have developed a groundbreaking AI system that they claim can translate cat meows in real time with 95% accuracy. It’s designed to help humans finally understand what their cats are trying to say. This AI listens to a cat’s meows, analyzes the sound patterns, and instantly translates them into human language. Whether it’s “I’m hungry” or “I want attention,” you’ll supposedly know exactly what your furry friend is saying.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

An 11-year-old girl just graduated from college.

Chuck E. Cheese isn’t just for birthday parties and ball pits anymore: Now there’s a grown-up version. The company has just launched “Chuck’s Arcade”, a spinoff of the classic children’s birthday party headquarters designed for adults who still love arcade games (and maybe a little nostalgia). It’s packed with old-school hits like Donkey Kong and Mortal Kombat, plus modern games like Halo and Connect Four Hoops. Each location features a different vibe and is “overseen” by one of the chain’s iconic animatronic characters, including Chuck E. himself. Ten US locations in malls are already open, with some offering food, drinks, and prizes. And yes, you can now win a lava lamp…while sipping wine.

WEIRD NEWS

Earlier this year, the US Social Security Administration dropped its list of the most popular baby names in the country. And while it’s always interesting to see the usual most-commonly used names, like Olivia, Liam, and Emma, what’s even more intriguing is to dig a little deeper, and look into the treasure trove of truly unexpected choices. These are some of the – let’s say – ‘unusual’ names given to fewer than 10 babies in the US in 2024…Some parents went for poetic names for their kiddies, like Poem and Whisper. Others leaned into power moves, such as Dragon, God, and Stoic. And some just said: “Why not?” and came up with the names Crash, Dairy, and Infant. Among the standouts for girls: Whisper, Missouri, Palace, Serenityrose, Fairy, Virtue, Chai, Universe, and Ethereal. For boys: For boys: Horizon, Nexus, Matrix, Grim, Lafayette, Zero, Ruckus, Infinity, and yes — God. Also on the list of names used fewer than 10 times last year were Cinderella and Lancelot.

QUESTION OF THE DAY
