THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
I’ve been married for a year, and we have two babies. Twins. I love them more than life itself. My life felt like it was falling into place, but last week, my husband came home from work, sat me down, and told me he wanted a divorce. I was shocked and asked why. He reminded me that we had this agreement about keeping up with ourselves. If one of us changed, we could reconsider things. He told me I had put on too much weight, he was not attracted to me anymore, and he was exercising his right to opt-out. I told him how hard it is to lose the baby weight. So he compromised and said if I don’t drop the pounds in three months, he’s out of here. Isn’t love supposed to be about more than the physical? Isn’t he supposed to love all of me all the time? What should I do?

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
If you’ve noticed your cat usually sleeps on its left side, it’s not a coincidence. A new international study found that about two-thirds of cats prefer sleeping on their left side. Researchers concluded that this may be a clever evolutionary strategy. The right hemisphere of the brain, which is associated with spatial awareness, threat processing, and rapid escape movements, is more engaged when a cat sleeps on its left side. This means that when a cat wakes up from a left-side sleep, its left visual field is directly facing its surroundings, allowing for a quicker assessment of potential threats or opportunities.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
The Fantastic Four: First Steps debuts with a positive Rotten Tomatoes score. The Marvel Cinematic Universe will finally see the arrival of Marvel's First Family, and it seems like the franchise has the best Fantastic Four movie yet on its hands, according to early reviews. With a comics-accurate depiction of Galactus and more, the MCU movie promises plenty of excitement. The Fantastic Four: First Steps has landed with an 88% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, with the MCU movie achieving the Certified Fresh status. That is higher than James Gunn's Superman, the other major superhero movie of the summer, which debuted at 86% and is currently at 83% with critics at the time of writing.
Pedro Pascal is emerging as one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, in addition to being one of the most prolific actors alive. Pascal is having an incredible 2025, which started with him reprising his role as the surrogate father figure Joel Miller in HBO's The Last of Us season 2, earning a second Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. This summer, he's starred in two A24 movies – Celine Song's romantic comedy Materialists and Ari Aster's neo-Western Eddington, and will also make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Reed Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, releasing in theaters on July 25. However, Pascal has another movie that was released in theaters this year, but flew under the radar, and is now making its way onto streaming.

OF THE DAY
A study says that having a cat makes you 40% less likely to die of a heart attack.
This November will mark 50 years since the Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior, claiming all 29 crew members and becoming one of the Great Lakes’ most haunting tragedies, as immortalized in the Gordon Lightfoot classic ‘The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald’. To honor its legacy, beginning July 26, a relay team of 68 swimmers will complete the ship’s 411-mile journey from the shipwreck location to Detroit—stage by stage, swimmer by swimmer. Along the way, they’ll pass off small iron ore pellets from the same dock the ship left in 1975. The swim ends at Detroit’s Mariners’ Church, where the bell will ring 29 times—one for each life lost on that fateful day. LINK: https://www.edmundfitzgeraldswim.org/

WEIRD NEWS
There’s a new beauty trend going around TikTok, and yep — it involves actual Sharpies. Influencers are using permanent markers (usually red or coral) as DIY lip liner, then layering gloss or lipstick on top. Commenters are loving the bold look and low cost, asking what “shade” of Sharpie was used. But not everyone’s sold. One TikToker admitted, “My lips weren’t burning, but they definitely dried out—and I could taste the chemicals.” Dermatologist Dr. Brooke Jeffy says the trend is risky. Sharpies contain chemicals like xylene and toluene (also found in paint thinners and gasoline), and the brand itself warns against using them on skin.
