SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

For most people, falling asleep is a slow process. It takes us about 40 minutes from lights out to dreamland. A survey of 2,000 people in the US found that while many start winding down around 10:15pm and get into bed by 10:36, they don’t actually nod off until, on average, 11:18. Nearly half said they wake up several times a week wishing they had gone to sleep earlier. The biggest delays come from unfinished chores (29%). But 21% said they stay up later than they should because late nights are their favorite time of day, while 15% admitted they stay up late simply to avoid starting the next workday. The end result: a nightly cycle where good intentions are derailed by laundry, lingering to-do lists, and the irresistible pull of “just a little more me-time.”

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

“Dancing With the Stars” judge Derek Hough is adding a new gig to his schedule this fall: Host of the entertainment news TV program, “Extra.” Hough will take over starting with the Season 32 premiere on Sept. 8. Hough said: “The ballroom has been my stage, my home, and my launchpad. Now, I’m stepping into an exciting new spotlight as the host of Extra.” Hough replaces Billy Bush, who announced his departure from the show after 5 years last month.

The scripts of the first 4 seasons of “Stranger Things” will be released in 2 volumes this fall, and are now available to pre-order on Amazon. “Stranger Things: The Complete Scripts,” will give fans access to the full text of each episode, plus exclusive introductions and production notes from series creators Matt and Ross Duffer. Presented in paperback, they detail not only dialogue, but stage direction and tonal cues that shaped the show. The scripts will drop ahead Netflix’s roll out of the show’s final season. Season 5 of “Stranger Things” will come out in 3 parts, starting Nov. 26.

Sylvester Stallone is known for playing 2 characters above all others: the relatable underdog boxer ‘Rocky Balboa’ and the traumatized Vietnam War vet ‘John Rambo’. Now, it seems he is finally ready to hand over the trademark archery bow of his legendary “First Blood” character to 29-year-old actor Noah Centineo. Centineo has been cast as a younger iteration of Stallone’s action hero for the upcoming prequel “John Rambo”. Currently in active development, the new film will focus on Rambo’s early years in the Vietnam War, depicting his grueling service in a Green Beret Special Forces unit.

DID YA KNOW!?

The Moon looks upside down in the Southern Hemisphere. Compared to the Northern Hemisphere, anyway. This means that the ‘Man in the Moon’ is upside down in the Southern Hemisphere and looks more like a rabbit.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

Priscilla Presley’s lawyer is denying allegations in a new $50 million civil lawsuit filed against her that accuses her of leading her daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, to an early death in an alleged plot to regain control of the Elvis Presley estate. The suit, filed by Priscilla’s former business partners, claims Priscilla schemed to “defraud” them, “destroy reputations with unsubstantiated claims” and “exploit” Lisa Marie’s death to “regain control over Elvis Presley’s legacy and assets.” The plaintiffs claim Priscilla ignored Lisa Marie’s health concerns at the Golden Globes in 2023. Days later, Lisa Marie suffered a cardiac arrest and died at age 54.

WEIRD NEWS

While fly fishing in Alaska’s Katmai National Park, members of the NHL’s Seattle Kraken had a wild encounter — when a grizzly bear charged their mascot, Buoy the Sea Troll. The team shared video footage showing players and staff scrambling out of the water as curious bears approached. One bear splashed toward Buoy, but turned away just before getting too close. Forward John Hayden joked that the bears were especially intrigued by the mascot’s appearance. The trip was part of the Kraken’s annual community partnership with the Bristol Bay Native Corporation, which also included “Kraken Week” at a youth hockey camp. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3pmc9buj
