SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

For Gen Z, travel planning isn’t just about beaches and bucket lists – it’s about how hot the locals are – and if they’ll be able to take cool selfies. A new survey of 1,000 frequent travelers found that nearly 60% of Gen Z chooses destinations based partly on how “dateable” the locals (and fellow tourists) look in photos they’ve seen. That’s right: attractive people and Instagrammable backdrops are shaping the itinerary. That trend doesn’t hold across generations, though; just 7% of Baby Boomers admitted to this kind of visual-first approach. There’s also a gender gap: 35% of men said they pick travel spots this way, compared to just 21% of women. And while Gen Z leads the pack when it comes to travel based on aesthetic appeal, they’re also the most likely to end up disappointed. Some even said they have left a trip early when the photos didn’t meet their expectations. 60% of those surveyed agreed: they would choose a more expensive location if it looked impressive in photos.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

The beloved movie “The Holiday” is getting the TV treatment. Apple TV+ is working on a limited series adaptation of the 2006 romantic comedy, which starred Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black. The show, which will feature new characters, keeps the setup of the movie about a single American and single British woman living very different lives who swap their houses for the holidays and find love in the process. The Holiday was a box-office success and, almost 2 decades later, it remains a Christmas staple, despite writer-director Nancy Meyers never intending for it to be a Christmas movie.

“Jurassic World Rebirth” keeps roaring at the box office with ticket sales clearing the $750 million milestone over the weekend. Universal’s dinosaur tentpole, which rebooted the prehistoric series with Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey, has grossed $766 million globally after 5 weekends of release. It’s one of 3 Hollywood films this year, along with “Lilo & Stitch” and “A Minecraft Movie”, to clear the $750 million mark so far. Lilo has exceeded a billion, and Minecraft is just a few million short.

DID YA KNOW!?

The T.rex likely had feathers. Scientists in China discovered Early Cretaceous period tyrannosaur skeletons that were covered in feathers. If the ancestors of the T. rex had feathers, the T. rex probably did, too.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

MTV recently celebrated its 44th birthday.

50 years ago, Jimmy Hoffa went missing.

Author J.K. Rowling recently turned 60.

Lately, Gen Z can’t seem to get enough of what was once thought of as their ‘grandparents food — cottage cheese. Once considered a kitschy diet food, lumpy, bumpy…and now trendy cottage cheese is seeing unprecedented demand, thanks to health influencers on TikTok. CNN reports that “young, protein-hungry consumers have whipped up new recipes and posted them online,” creating a buzz that brands and manufacturers are struggling to keep up with. Cottage cheese is high in protein, low in sugar, and “appropriate for a GLP-1 diet.” That has led to a ton of recipe videos that have gone viral, including a delicious-looking one for “strawberry cheesecake ice cream.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4fwc3xkd

FUN FACT FOR YOU:
Share this with your friends... they'll think you're really smart!

✓ Each of the main characters in “Spongebob Squarepants” was inspired by one of the seven deadly sins.

✓ The Mosa Lisa was painted onto a plank of wood, not a canvas.

✓ Roman gladiators didn’t eat grains or meat.

✓ Birds do not sweat.

The general rule of thumb is if an actor appears in fewer than half of the episodes in a season of TV, they’re a “guest star”.

WEIRD NEWS

Is there a cure for migraines that you can pick up from the Golden Arches drive-thru? TikTok seems to think so. The so-called “McMigraine” meal from McDonald’s has gone viral, with users sharing videos claiming that you can cure a migraine by consuming one large Coca-Cola and a large order of fries. But experts are dubious of the supposed solution, and Amy Davis, RDN, registered dietitian and founder of Amy Davis Nutrition, notes: “While it’s become a popular hack online that many swear by anecdotally, there is no clinical research to support it as a reliable treatment for migraines.” LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4d22n77r
