THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
My husband and I got married a few weeks ago, and we received a surprising gift from a woman who wasn’t at the wedding. A few years ago, when we were dating, we hit a rough patch and broke up. He dated this woman for a short time, then we got back together. We've been solid for a few years, and I haven’t thought about this woman. But now she sent us a check for $10,000 and told us to have an amazing honeymoon. I tried talking about it with my husband, and he reassured me that he hasn’t kept in contact with her, and was just as surprised as I was to receive this. At first I was confused, I mean, it’s been years. And then, to give such a large amount of money is weird. I don’t think he’s lying to me, and we could use the money. But I feel uneasy accepting this money from a woman he dated. Am I being too stubborn about not wanting to take it because of who it’s from? My husband thinks we should keep the money, but to me, it’s dirty. What would you do, and how would you handle this?
Signed – Surprised Bride

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Tired of picking up toys, bottles, and stuffed animals all day – and of stepping on Legos? You’re not alone—and Chinese researchers say they may have a solution. A new prototype robot can spot objects on the floor and gently scoop them up for you, using soft, inflatable fingers. It responds to voice commands, maps rooms, and can handle items up to about half a pound, without crushing them. During lab tests, it successfully picked up everything from teddy bears to oranges. To move around, it uses the same kind of laser tech as self-driving cars, and its soft grip is designed to be safe around pets and kids. The robot even lifts up and down to reach different surfaces. It’s still in early development, but the future of tidy living may be getting closer.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
KJ Apa has signed on to star as James Stewart in “Jimmy,” an upcoming biopic about the “It’s a Wonderful Life” legend. Apa, best known for his role as ‘Archie’ on the “Riverdale,” said he feels “so honored I get to bring his story to life.” The movie will chronicle Pennsylvania-native Stewart’s rise in Hollywood, including winning an Academy Award for his work in “The Philadelphia Story,” before enlisting in the Army Air Corps as a combat pilot at the beginning of World War II. Not long after his return home, he starred in “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
During a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, Chris Pratt was asked about how he and wife Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt decided on the name for their 8-month-old, and if it had a connection to the actor’s family. The dad of 4 welcomed his son Ford with wife Schwarzenegger Pratt in November 2024. His response? “They paid the most.” That’s a joking reference to the Ford truck company. Pratt continued, saying: “He was almost Hyundai. No, it’s Ford Explorer Pratt.”
Dave Franco is open to the idea of playing his lookalike Luigi Mangione in a biopic. The actor and his wife, Alison Brie, made an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live”, where he was asked about portraying the man accused of killing killing Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. His answer: “No one has approached me about it yet, I’ll say that. This is something that more people in my life reached out about this exact thing than anything else that has ever happened.” Then, he added: “Let’s just say I’m open if the right people… and let’s just leave it at that.”
DID YA KNOW!?
Snails have teeth. Between 1,000 and 12,000 teeth, to be precise. They aren’t like ours, though, so don’t be thinking about snails with ridiculous toothy grins. You’ll find the snail's tiny 'teeth' all over its file-like tongue.

OF THE DAY
Billions of years from now, Earth will have a 30-hour day.
Fall is here—at least according to Home Depot, which officially made ‘Skelly’, its viral 12-foot-tall Halloween decoration, available for sale over the weekend. And this year, they’re also offering ‘Ultra Skelly’, a smaller 6½-foot (2m) version that lets you talk with trick-or-treaters through an app. When kids approach, Ultra Skelly can greet them, comment on their costumes – and can even be customized with up to 30 seconds of spooky, modulated voice recordings. It also features app-controlled lighting and movement—all for $279. Also joining the Grace & Bones Collection are Sitting Skelly’s Dog and Skelly’s Cat, which are both 5 feet tall. Although Halloween is still 87 days away, Home Depot’s early launch means you can have your porch haunted well in advance. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/2wndtwt9

✓ We call redheads “redheads” rather than “orangeheads” because redheads have existed longer than the word “orange” (in English).
✓ People using sign language also have accents.
✓ The word ‘buffalo’ can refer to the animal, a city in New York, and can mean ‘to bully’. Therefore, the following sentence is grammatically correct: Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo.

✓ Pollen isn’t just yellow; it can be blue, red, grey, or green.
WEIRD NEWS
France is considering cutting 2 public holidays as the government seeks to save money. Prime Minister François Bayrou announced a series of spending cuts recently as the government works to reduce the budget deficit. Among the proposals were his suggestion that the Easter Monday holiday be canceled, because it “no longer has any religious significances,” and May 8, also known as ‘Victory in Europe Day,’ which marks Nazi Germany’s surrender, which brought an end to World War II. Predictably, backlash to the idea has been intense.

COMMON CAT MYTHS:
Here are some widely-held beliefs about cats, that simply aren’t true …
• Cats should have a litter before they are spayed. (Does not benefit them in any way.)
• Street cats are always healthier than purebred cats. (Both can be unhealthy, but mixed breed cats do not get many of the genetic diseases common to purebred lines.)
• All cats prefer canned food. (Not true … many prefer dry.)
• Cats cannot be trained. (In fact, they can be trained to do tricks … when they feel like it.)
• Cats like tasty food. (What they eat is primarily based on their sense of smell.)
• Cats will let you know when they are sick. (They instinctively hide when sick.)
• Cats naturally know to use a litter box. (Not all cats understand the concept right away.)
• Cats are happier & healthier when outdoors. (Indoor cats have a much longer lifespan.)
