SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
A new study warns that people born after 1939 are unlikely to see an average lifespan of 100 years — despite earlier predictions. Researchers analyzed mortality records from 23 wealthy nations and found that progress in life expectancy has slowed dramatically for those born between 1939 and 2000. The reason isn’t that people are dying younger in old age — it’s that the biggest advances of the 20th century came from saving young lives. With childhood deaths now rare in richer countries, the “low-hanging fruit” of medical progress is gone. Future improvements, such as tackling cancer and heart disease, are expected to add years to our average lifespan much more slowly, making centenarians the exception, not the norm.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Anthony Ippolito is set to star in “I Play Rocky” for Amazon MGM Studios. Ippolito will play a young Sylvester Stallone in the film, which follows the actor before he came a mega star. Told “no” at every turn, Stallone bets everything on himself, holding the line on playing the lead in “Rocky” against seemingly impossible odds. The result is the ultimate underdog story behind the ultimate underdog movie. Ippolito is best known for playing Al Pacino in the Paramount+ limited series “The Offer”.
Guillermo del Toro’s lifelong passion project “Frankenstein” jolted to life on Saturday night where the Netflix film received a splashy world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. As the credits rolled, the audience responded with a 14-minute standing ovation that brought the filmmaker and star Jacob Elordi to tears. The adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic tale of ‘Victor Frankenstein’ will receive a limited theatrical release on Oct. 17, and will premiere on Netflix on Nov. 7.
A half a century later, Steven Spielberg’s “Jaws” still has plenty of bite as the troubled 2025 summer movie season comes to a close. The original summer blockbuster, celebrating its 50th anniversary, opened in second place at the 4-day Labor Day box office, grossing about $10 million. That puts it behind Zach Cregger’s sleeper hit “Weapons”, which remained in first place for the 4th weekend in a row, with an estimated long weekend haul of $12.4 million.

Those who are divorced are about 25% more likely to die early than those who are married.
Canada is in the midst of a nationwide treasure hunt with $1 million in gold on the line. Organized by The Northern Miner newspaper, the contest challenges participants to solve a 52-line poem filled with cryptic clues about the prize’s location. The grand reward is 217 one-ounce gold coins, while 12 smaller caches worth $25,000 each are also hidden across the country. Hunters are warned not to dig on private property, in dangerous areas, or anywhere requiring stunts – and no special gear is needed. The riddles contained in the poem reference trees, water, minerals, and landmarks, but also include intentional misdirections. And as the organizers remind fortune-seekers: the true prize is the adventure, the stories, and coming home safely. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/26dyvrhu

WEIRD NEWS
The newest TikTok beauty craze? Looking like you pulled an all-nighter. Called the “Tired Girl” trend, it flips the usual idea of makeup on its head. Instead of covering up dark circles and pale skin, Gen Z is leaning INTO them. Think smudged eyeliner, shadowed under-eyes, and lips that look a little purple — basically, glamorizing exhaustion. Jenna Ortega, channeling her ‘Wednesday Addams’ character, has become the trend’s poster girl, even rocking the look on the red carpet. Other celebs like Lily-Rose Depp, Gabbriette, and Emma Chamberlain are in on it too, with TikTok tutorials racking up hundreds of thousands of views. Fans say it’s less about perfection and more about honesty: a messy, undone, slightly rebellious aesthetic. Or as one makeup artist put it: “realness with an edge.”
