Today we visit with TWO guests... Edd Hedges and Jodi Tovay.

Edd Hedges, the once chubby kid without many friends, is now a young, handsome, stand-up comedian, packing theaters from London to Sydney. After making a name for himself on the road as "The Millennial Mike Birbiglia," Edd returns to his hometown village, Stansted Mountfitchet, UK, to headline a charity event after a four year absence, giving him a few days to reconnect with his working-class family. What Edd didn't know was that his schoolmate - a boy that had bullied him, making his adolescence years a living nightmare - had begun to unravel during the years Edd was building his career. The former star athlete was on a downward spiral, in and out of jail. The most popular kid in town, was now the town milkman, and on that night he would become the town murderer. with Edd still on his mind.

Jodi Tovay is a four-time Emmy® Award-nominated producer with more than 18 years of experience in true crime television, media, and documentary storytelling. She was raised in Atlanta, Georgia, where she continues to live and work. Jodi is a Principal at Starwipe Productions, a boutique production company that develops and produces original documentary content for streamers, networks, and studios.A pivotal moment in Jodi's career came while on vacation in Scotland. While seeking shelter from the rain at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, she stumbled into a small pop-up comedy club. There, she discovered a new voice that would unexpectedly shape the next nine years of her life. Onstage was a little-known comedian named Edd Hedges, whose performance sparked more than just curiosity-it sparked a long and transformative journey.

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

They analyzed over 3 million Airbnb host photos and found something crazy. Hosts who smiled in their pictures got 3.5% more bookings than the grumpy-looking ones. But here's where it gets really interesting - men who smiled saw a massive 9% boost in demand compared to their stone-faced competition. The researchers didn't stop there though. Three out of four hosts were already doing the smart thing and grinning at their cameras. This smile magic isn't just working for vacation rentals either. Entrepreneurs raising funds got more cash when they smiled in their pitch photos. Freelancers on job sites got picked more often when they looked happy. Even crowdfunding campaigns did better with smiling founders. The dating app world figured this out years ago too. Women who showed their teeth in photos got 76% more matches. Men had better luck with closed-mouth smiles, getting 43% more likes. All this research points to one simple truth - people make snap decisions based on faces, and happy faces win almost every time.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

The Directors Guild of America has appointed one of its most celebrated members as its new president. Christopher Nolan was elected during the union’s national convention over the weekend. Nolan, who ran for the top office unopposed, will take over for outgoing president Lesli Linka Glatter, who led the 19,500-member union of directors, associate and assistant directors, unit production managers and stage managers through the 2023 actors and writers strikes. Nolan is best known as the director of “Oppenheimer” and “The Dark Knight”.

For decades, Stan Lee was the king of comic conventions. Now, nearly 7 years after his death at the age of 95, he’ll once again be a presence at LA Comic Con, this time as a hologram — that will use AI to have conversations with fans. Fans will be able to speak with the hologram at the Stan Lee Experience section of the con, a 1,500 ft. enclosed booth which costs between $20 to enter. And like meeting a celebrity or getting autographs, there will be paid opportunities to take photos with the Stan Lee hologram, or have a 3-minute, one-on-one conversation with it. This year’s convention runs from Sept. 26-28.

Tom Holland was hospitalized after suffering a concussion while filming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” in Glasgow. Filming for the fourth instalment of Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man’ films was suspended while Holland underwent treatment. Reportedly, Holland’s stunt line snapped, and he felt dizzy following the incident. He was later treated in hospital for concussion. Sources indicated he is taking a break from filming for a few days “out of precaution”. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is slated for release in July 2026.

DID YA KNOW!?

The word “buttload,” often used as a slang term to mean “a large amount,” actually has roots in old English wine measurement systems. A “butt” was a real unit used to measure large quantities of liquid, especially wine or ale, beginning during medieval times. One butt equals two hogsheads, and each hogshead typically holds 63 gallons, making a butt exactly 126 gallons. This unit was most commonly used in reference to shipping and storing wine, beer, and other liquids in wooden casks or barrels. These massive barrels were known as “butts”, and they often appeared in old taverns and ships’ cargo.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

A study found that 15% say they have stopped wearing deodorant.

A New Zealand mom went viral after setting a Guinness World Record for running the fastest-ever 100 meters barefoot on LEGO bricks, clocking 24.75 seconds of what must have been pure agony. Gabrielle Wall is a mother of 2, “trained” by dodging midnight LEGO landmines left by her kids. The feat, posted by Guinness on Instagram, racked up 9.3 million views, with commenters questioning why anyone would willingly sprint on “pain bricks”. Wall said it was on her bucket list after a 2022 health scare, proving moms will endure anything — from toddler tantrums to literal LEGO torture — to chase their goals. WEIRD NEWS

Apparently, your house needs a good burp. Yes, really. Experts say that “burping your home” — opening a few windows for about 10 minutes a day (also known as the German tradition of “Lüften”) can freshen the air, reduce condensation, and keep mold at bay. The comparison to burping a baby might sound odd, but the idea is the same: let out the stale stuff so things can settle. Bumping your home is especially useful in cooler months when trapped moisture makes rooms feel clammy. It can also lower heating costs, since drier air warms more easily. So, strange as it sounds, a quick daily window-burst may save you money, comfort, and even save your walls.

QUESTION OF THE DAY

Most people do THIS when they are awake, but only about a quarter of us do it while sleeping. What is it?

Answer: Laugh

THE LIST

STOP USING THESE PHRASES IN EMAILS: Because they show you can’t handle conflict, according to expert Melody Wilding, author of “Managing Up” and an executive coach for over a decade…

✗ “Just circling back on this” – Can make the recipient feel guilty for not responding sooner. Better to clearly state your request and deadline.

✗ “Per my last email” – Sounds scolding or impatient, implying the recipient is incompetent. Instead, recap key points or restate the information clearly.

✗ “Copying [name] here” – Feels like a power move and can make the recipient defensive. Only loop in others transparently, explaining why they’re included.

✗ “Thanks in advance” – Comes off presumptuous and transactional, as if you expect compliance. Acknowledge the person has a choice and ask politely instead.

✗ “Please advise” – Sounds cold and frustrated, like you’re dumping responsibility on the recipient. Use casual questions or statements that show you’re ready to collaborate.

One more thing: She does qualify this list by pointing out that the use of these phrases is NOT ALWAYS passive-aggressive, but if you tend to use them when you’re feeling angry or impatient, it’s a red flag.
