THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
I spent last weekend with my whole family. We decided to get together each year at my mother's lake cabin when we can actually enjoy the outdoors. This is our family's Christmas get together. I know, it's weird, but it works for our family. The reason for my letter. My mother is almost 80. Her health has been declining since my father passed away a few years ago. Her dog passed away about a year ago and she is all alone. Over the weekend, my sister was trying to convince my mom to get another dog. My mom said she does not want the responsibility of a pet anymore, and she wants to travel more often. My sister has been trying to convince her. I just spoke with my mom and she said that she has almost “worn her down” and convinced her to get another dog. I agree with my mom's original idea of traveling more and not having the responsibility of taking care of a dog that might outlive her. How do I get my sister to drop this? She lives hours away, I live close by. This dog will become my responsibility and I don't need this!

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Scientists say they may have discovered “nature’s Ozempic”. Researchers in China think they’ve identified a way to naturally curb sugar cravings and regulate blood sugar, with no injections required. The secret? A gut microbe. Long story, but they discovered that a bacteria called Bacteroides vulgatus can trigger the body to release GLP-1, the same hormone targeted by drugs like Ozempic. GLP-1 helps control appetite, keeps blood sugar steady, and helps you feel full. It works in mice, and early signs in humans suggest the same could be true for us. While Ozempic and similar drugs are highly effective, they can be costly and come with side effects. This study hints that nurturing the right gut bacteria, through diet or future treatments, could offer a more natural path to appetite control and weight management.
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson shocked fans at the 2025 Venice Film Festival when he debuted a drastically slimmed-down physique, sparking concern and viral speculation online. Known worldwide for his massive build and blockbuster action roles, he appeared noticeably leaner as he walked the red carpet in Italy. The transformation comes as Johnson prepares for one of his most challenging roles yet: portraying MMA legend Mark Kerr in Benny Safdie’s upcoming film "The Smashing Machine." The UFC and MMA legend’s career was overshadowed by his struggles with prescription drug addiction.
Jacob Elordi was branded “super rude” as he got into a tense altercation with a Venice Film Festival official at the world premiere of “Frankenstein” on Saturday. In a TikTok video, the “Euphoria” star is seen telling off a man described as a “bodyguard” as he tried to sign autographs and pose for selfies. Elordi was seen chatting with the man before the actor declared: “I'm going to take a picture right here”, then leaned into a wall of onlookers for selfies, before snapping at the man: “Don’t ever tell me what to do!” Some fans turned on the “pampered” star for telling off the man for simply “doing his job”.
DID YA KNOW!?
Insects can fly up to 3.25km above sea level, at least. Alpine bumblebees have been found living as high up as 3.25km above sea level and could even fly in lab conditions that replicate the air density and oxygen levels at 9km – that's just higher than Mount Everest.

A doctor is advising against removing those stringy bits from bananas, which are typically thought to be part of the peel. These strands, called phloem bundles, are crucial for the fruit’s growth, distributing nutrients throughout the banana. In a video on his Instagram, Dr. Manuel Viso encourages eating the entire banana, including the strings, to avoid missing out on vital nutrients. The phloem bundles serve as the “blood vessels of the banana,” rich in antioxidants, anti-inflammatory compounds, potassium, magnesium, and tryptophan, a precursor to serotonin.

WEIRD NEWS
Labubu fans have seen plenty of customizations, but this one might be the most unexpected yet. A Redditor gave their plush a “Brazilian butt lift” (“BBL”). The post, from u/sagebat in the r/labubu subreddit, included photos of their Labubu showing off its updated rear end. There was such an overwhelmingly positive response that they made a new post with a step-by-step guide. They nicknamed their creation the “LABBL” and described it as a beginner-friendly form of thread sculpting. The guide was surprisingly meticulous, complete with a checklist, color-coded diagrams, and optional enhancement tips. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5a7sj8kz

THE LIST
10 ARTISTS WHO COULD PLAY THE 2026 SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW:
We’re 158 days away from Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on February 8. Here are 10 musical artists who might be invited to play the Halftime Show, according to Billboard magazine…
10. Lady Gaga – Already nailed it in 2017, still a powerhouse live act; repeat headliners are rare, but not impossible. Likelihood: Low-Medium.
9. Mariah Carey – Legendary hitmaker with a new album on the way; would bring star power and nostalgia. Likelihood: Medium.
8. Justin Bieber – Comeback narrative + new music + global fanbase could make for a massive “return” moment. Likelihood: Medium-High.
7. Drake – One of rap’s biggest names chasing history; could finally break the “solo rapper” halftime curse. Likelihood: High. (Special guest: Kendrick?)
6. BTS – Full group reunion in 2025 lines up perfectly; global fanbase guarantees record-breaking buzz. Likelihood: Very High.
5. Green Day – Local Bay Area heroes with big anthems; rock is due for a comeback on the halftime stage. Likelihood: Medium.
4. Metallica – Hometown icons who would bring pure firepower; probably too heavy for NFL brand tastes. Likelihood: Low.
3. Post Malone – Genre-blending, universally likable, and loaded with collab options; NFL-friendly pick. Likelihood: High.
2. Jay-Z – The man who chooses halftime acts could finally choose himself, especially with an album anniversary. Likelihood: Medium-High.
1. Taylor Swift – NFL’s unofficial mascot thanks to her Kelce romance; new album + endless Easter eggs = all signs point to her. Likelihood: Extremely High.
