SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
So, Gen Z…How often are you in touch with your parents? Or, if you’re a parent…how often do you expect your Zoomer kids to call or text? A new survey highlights big differences in how mothers and fathers stay connected with adult children. Conducted by Talker Research with 1,000 parents of 18-28-year-olds, the study shows that moms are twice as likely as dads to hear from their kids multiple times a day (22% versus 10%), and to receive daily photos. Two-thirds of moms say photo sharing strengthens emotional bonds, compared to 55% of fathers. Yet digital closeness doesn’t always translate into in-person visits. Fathers average 8 months between face-to-face contact, versus 7 for moms. Many parents expected weekly visits, but only 18% actually see their kids that often. Texting now dominates family communication (67%), with video calls (30%) and phone calls far behind. Quick selfies, memes, and pet photos have gone a long way toward replacing lengthy conversations, reflecting how younger generations show connection in more casual, digital ways. 55% of parents said they expect daily texts from their children, while only 41% expect phone calls
BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN
Food Network has unveiled its lineup of more than 50 hours of holiday episodes. Fans can look forward to a new holiday twist on Guy Fieri’s competition series: “Tournament of Champions: All-Star Christmas” will feature Guy’s oldest son Hunter for some game-time reporting. The other newbie to the holiday programming is “Sweet Empire”. This Wells Adams-hosted series will see 14 chefs create edible artwork. Also, fan-favorites like “Harry Potter: Wizards of Baking” and “Holiday Baking Championship” will return next month.
Everyone’s favorite bespectacled boy wizard is approaching a big anniversary. “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” (or, “Philosopher’s Stone,” if you’re anywhere but the US) turns 25 next year. To honor the milestone, Warner Bros. is planning a year-long celebration across all divisions of the media company. Though details remain under the cloak of invisibility, fans can expect a global theatrical re-release of the original film, special edition products and retail promotions. A newly designed 25th anniversary logo, meant to evoke the magical glow of a Patronus, will feature prominently across new and existing product lines, the company said in a press release.
Ryan Seacrest just got conveniently ordained (Where does this man find the time?). That means, on top of his million other gigs, he’s tossing his hat in the ring to officiate Taylor Swift’s wedding – and she already knows it. Seacrest told Swift that he took the online course to get ordained, and said he’d be happy to officiate her wedding to Travis Kelce.

In Germany, some supermarkets are making shopping easier for dog owners with the introduction of pet parking pads — temperature-controlled, ventilated kennels located near store entrances. Created by companies like DogSpot, the secure and hygienic pods let owners lock and unlock them via smartphone or store code. Designed to prevent pets from being left in hot cars or out in bad weather, each kennel maintains a comfortable climate and features clear panels to allow the dog to peer out, easing anxiety.

OF THE DAY
The oldest – and possibly most haunted – hotel in Las Vegas is offering a $5,000 prize to someone brave enough to prove its ghost stories are true. The El Cortez Hotel & Casino, a Fremont Street landmark since 1941, is searching for one “ghost hunter” to spend a weekend exploring its eeriest corners, from creaky corridors to its rumored haunted basement. Equipped with EMF meters, EVP recorders and thermal sensors, the chosen participant (just one…alone…) will document any spooky findings with photos, videos, and a short report. It’s rumored that the El Cortez basement is full of the cremated remains of former employees who died without any family, making the hunt just a little more eerie. The” $5K Haunt Hunt” contest run by Casino.org, is open until Oct. 31, with the haunted stay set for December — just in time for those who like their holidays with a side of scary. WEIRD NEWS
Recently in Denver, more than 1,200 runners lined up for the 8th annual International Taco Bell 50K Ultramarathon, a 31-mile challenge that tests stomachs as much as legs. The quirky event requires participants to stop at 9 Taco Bell locations during the race, and eat a full menu item at each one. Chalupas, Crunchwraps, and Nachos BellGrande all make the mandatory list. Runners must finish within 11 hours, no Pepto-Bismol allowed. What began in 2018 as a joke between friends has grown into a viral sensation. Officially, there are no winners — only survivors.
