SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

According to psychologist Mark Travers, the #1 thing that couples most often fight about isn’t money, sex, or parenting – the real culprit is tone of voice. He wrote in an article for CNBC that a sigh, eye-roll, or clipped delivery can make an innocent question like “Did you take out the trash?” sound blameful or full of contempt. Research shows only a small part of communication is in the words; most comes from tone, body language, and facial expression. Because tone carries emotional weight, partners often remember how something was said, more than what was said. Travers suggests walking back sharp tones in real time with quick resets like “Let me try that again,” or gently asking a partner to rephrase, preventing small conflicts from snowballing.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Paramount+ is reviving “Dexter: Resurrection” for a second season. “Dexter: Resurrection” is a continuation of “Dexter New Blood,” following the reunion of ‘Dexter Morgan’ with his son ‘Harrison’, as they navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps. The renewal comes after the prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin,” which followed the character as a student in the ’90s, was canceled after being previously greenlit for a second season.

Arsenio Hall is telling all in a new project. The actor and comedian is revealing the highs, lows and most iconic moments from his long and winding career, from his start as a magician to his decade-defining talk show, in a new memoir. From his memorable turns in films like “Coming to America” and “Harlem Nights” to hosting “The Arsenio Hall Show”, he “pulls back the curtain and takes us to a different time in Hollywood”, according to an official description to the book. “Arsenio: A Memoir” hits shelves April 7.

DID YA KNOW!?

You have a 50 per cent chance of sharing a birthday with a friend. In any group of 23 people, two people will share a birthday, according to the maths. To find the probability of everyone in the group having a unique birthday, multiply all 23 probabilities together, giving 0.493. So the probability of a shared birthday is 1 - 0.493 = 0.507, or 50.7 per cent.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

In a world where buffets and bottomless bowls reign, many restaurants are DOWNsizing portions — instead of upsizing them. Olive Garden has been testing lighter meals this year, giving diners a break from endless pasta and breadsticks—and winning repeat customers in the process. P.F. Chang’s has also introduced smaller dishes, while The Cheesecake Factory rolled out a “Bites” section on its famously massive menu. Why the shift? Diners are asking for it. A National Restaurant Association survey found 74% of customers want smaller portions, and 44% admit they sometimes order from kids’ menus to save money — and save calories. Experts say some want smaller entrees due to the fact that they’re dining solo, or because they tend to snack during the day, and therefore “aren’t that hungry”…or are taking GLP-1 drugs to lose weight.

WEIRD NEWS

Police in San Bruno, California thought they had an easy traffic stop after a taxi made an illegal U-turn – that was until they realized no one was behind the wheel. The car was a Waymo driverless vehicle, part of the company’s fleet erating in cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles. Officers said they couldn’t issue a ticket since their citation books don’t have a box for “robot.” Calling it a first, police notified Waymo about the glitch. The company said it is reviewing the incident, noting its autonomous system is designed to follow traffic laws while improving road safety.
