SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
Octopuses are a lot like humans in at least one important way, a new study found. Just like we have dominant hands, they have dominant arms. Researchers found that octopuses favor certain arms for specific jobs. The front arms tend to explore – reaching, probing, and curling to investigate their world – while the rear arms focus more on movement, to propel the animal. Unlike humans, they show no left or right-handedness, but every arm can perform all basic motions. The research highlights the octopus’s remarkable coordination, offering insights for neuroscience and maybe even the design of flexible robots.

Chewing your food longer may prevent you from becoming overweight. A 2017 study found that extended chewing not only improves digestion, it also raises energy expenditure, a process known as diet-induced thermogenesis. Oral stimuli from tasting and the time spent chewing both contribute to increased metabolism and intestinal activity. This added energy use means the body generates more heat after eating, offering fresh insight into why eating slowly and savoring food can benefit weight control.

OF THE DAY
Arby’s just dropped its newest creation: Steak Nuggets, a bite-sized way to enjoy steak on the go. The chain says it’s the first of its kind: hand-cut, garlic-and-pepper-seasoned steak pieces with a bold, smoky flavor. Available now, the tender nuggets come in three forms: a 5- or 9-piece entrée, a Steak Nugget Sandwich with onions and pickles, or a Steak Nugget Bowl served over mac ’n cheese. No knife needed…and fork optional.
Job hunting just got a lot more… swipable. “Sorce”, a new app from Y Combinator, is basically Tinder for jobs: swipe right, and AI applies for you. The app automatically visits company websites, submits applications, and even crafts cover letters on your behalf. The app builds on trends already popular among job seekers — using AI to tailor résumés and cover letters — but packages it into one seamless, automated workflow. And sure, companies might get flooded with identical applications, but for users, it’s a tiny hack against the endless void of online listings. Swipe right on work, and let the robots do all the legwork. LINK: https://www.sorce.jobs/

WEIRD NEWS
An Alabama man has entered the record books — thanks to his extraordinary facial hair. Rudolf Martino, of Birmingham AL, earned the Guinness World Records title for the longest natural beard locks on a living person, after growing them to 3 feet 6 inches. That’s over a foot taller than the world’s shortest woman. Inspired by Indian holy men and Rastafarians, Martino washes his facial locks biweekly, and says it literally takes him days to dry them. He says he has no plans for a trim, calling his beard a symbol of “roots, length, and strength.”

WHAT YOUR COFFEE ORDER SAYS ABOUT YOU:
In an article, a professional barista revealed that after 7 years behind the espresso machine, he has learned that your coffee order reveals more than you think. From oat flat whites to iced mochas, here’s what he (and most baristas) secretly think when you order yours…
Flat White: Hipster alert. Oat milk? Creative vibes. “Large flat white”? That’s actually a latte, buddy.
Skinny Latte: Calories are scary to you, but you still want a treat. Pro tip: just enjoy the $5 full-fat indulgence.
Filter Coffee: You’re a serious bean nerd. You sniff, you swirl, you probably have a favorite roast.
Alternative Milk Crew: Trend-chaser extraordinaire. Oat, almond, coconut… just don’t ask for rice or macadamia.
Matcha: Yoga mat in hand, protein bar in bag. You’re caffeinated, healthy, Instagram-ready…and suspiciously energetic for 9am.
Espresso: All business. Either a coffee snob, or someone desperate for caffeine.
Long Black: Smooth operator. Slightly fancy, slightly confused, but gets the job done.
Cappuccino: Peak 2000s nostalgia in a cup. 40+ crowd, cocoa-dusted perfection, sugar optional.
Mocha: You love dessert and you’re not ashamed. Often ordered by those who but secretly prefer hot chocolate.
Iced Coffee / Cold Brew: TikTok generation’s coffee training wheels. Sweet, photogenic, and preferably in a cup that sweats more than you do.
Babyccino: For kids, dogs, or adults in denial. You’re basically paying for warm milk and foam therapy.
