A scientists says he has a simple explanation for why aliens haven’t contacted us: they’re just not that advanced. Dr. Robin Corbet, a senior research scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, calls it “radical mundanity.” His theory suggests that extraterrestrial civilizations (ETCs) exist in the Milky Way, but none have developed technology capable of large-scale astro-engineering or high-power beacons. Contacting other civilizations would take immense energy and millions of years for a response, giving little motivation to try. He adds (brace yourself…) that Earth is probably not a very interesting place to them (aliens). While there’s still a “reasonable chance” we could detect ETCs, Corbet notes it might be underwhelming, as these civilizations might only modestly more advanced than us, which he likens to a “iPhone 42 versus iPhone 17” scenario.

Central Perk Coffeehouse is officially opening in New York City’s Times Square on Dec. 5. The new establishment also revealed 2 new “Friends”-inspired beverages that will make their debuts: “The One with NYC Matcha”, and “NY Relaxi Taxi Tall Iced Cooler”. “The Tribbiani”, a sandwich created in honor of Matt LeBlanc’s character, is also on the menu. ‘Woody’, ‘Buzz’ and the “Toy Story” gang are back in the first teaser trailer for “Toy Story 5,” the 5th film in Pixar‘s iconic series, set to release June 19, 2026. In the trailer, the toys meet ‘Lilypad’, “a high-tech, frog-shaped smart tablet that makes Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs exponentially harder when they go head-to-head with the all-new threat to playtime,” says a press release. Greta Lee joins the cast to voice the new high-tech toy. The first Toy Story dropped in 1995, setting a groundbreaking precedent as the first fully-computer animated feature film. Matthew McConaughey and Michael Caine have partnered with AI audio company ElevenLabs to generate virtual AI versions of their voices. McConaughey will be using the company’s tech to generate a Spanish-language version of his “Lyrics of Livin’” newsletter, which he uses, in his words: “as a way to share stories and ideas in my own voice with those who want to listen.” Caine is joining the company’s newly launched Iconic Voice Marketplace, which will let companies and creative teams ask to use Caine’s voice for projects and content, including narration of books and articles.
DID YA KNOW!?
Did You Know... Honey Never Spoils? Archaeologists have found pots of honey in ancient Egyptian tombs that are over 3,000 years old and still perfectly edible. This is because honey's natural composition—low moisture and high acidity—creates an environment that resists bacteria and spoilage. So, that jar of honey in your cupboard? It could outlast your entire lifetime!

Olivier Rioux made history on Thursday, by becoming the tallest player to ever play in an NCAA basketball game. The 7-foot-9 (2.36m) freshman suited up for the Florida Gators’ second game of the season against North Florida. Rioux came off the bench and played 2 minutes in a 104-64 win for the Gators. The 19-year-old weighs 305 pounds (138kg), has a wingspan of 8 feet, and wears size 20 shoes. He was 6-foot-1 at age 8, and crossed the 7-foot mark before entering Grade 7. For comparison, he’s 3 inches taller than NBA Hall of Famer Yao Ming.
What would YOU do if you inadvertently received the pay belonging to dozens of your co-workers? A factory worker in Russia was accidentally paid more than 7 million rubles (US$87,000), and he doesn’t plan to give it back. The funds were accidentally wired to him due to a software glitch. Vladimir Rychagov says he initially thought the surprise windfall was part of a rumored salary bonus, but accounting quickly informed that the money was meant to go to 34 employees at another branch. After researching online, he argued he had the right to keep the money, claiming the payment was labeled as “salary” and sent in the company’s name. As the company pressured him to return it, he instead bought a car…and moved. Lower courts ruled against him, but Rychagov has appealed to Russia’s Supreme Court, insisting the money is his.

The family’s love for the franchise runs deep: the kids, aged 1 to 13, have seen countless Disney movies, and each has a uniquely creative name: Trendie, Zaylee, Sunny, Truly, Journey, and Rocky. Some online commenters raised eyebrows, but the Joneses aren’t bothered. As Aubree said: “Disney inspires magic and joy. That’s all that matters.”
