THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!

Dear John,

A woman on Marketplace had some shampoo and conditioner, it was about half the price of new and it was my brand! She had four bottles for half the price that I would pay in store. So I'm like, sure, and one of them happened to be hair repair - yeah, just what I was looking for, and again at half the price. So I thought I would score, or so I thought. Yeah, I don't know how she got an almost five-star ratings from everybody else on Marketplace. Her communication was poor. She said she could meet me yesterday. However, my husband went to meet up with her and she never showed up. So I messaged her - nothing back. She just messaged me, not even 20 minutes beforehand, and I messaged her pretty much right back. Next thing I know, my hubby is waiting for a no-show! He finally comes home, still nothing. She left my messages unread for hours and hours. I went back, only to find out the listing is no longer available. Now, I have more than been nice, communicated with her patiently, waited and if she did not want to either sell to me or changed her mind and did something else with the product I truly believe that common courtesy could have been used here, and she could have very nicely said, 'Sorry, but I decided to go a different route.' But no, not this woman. I was, and still am, just livid at her lack of communication, when I was so forthcoming and so forgiving. Am I wrong for being upset and disappointed?

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH

Do you ever wonder why the songs that defined your teen years still hit so hard? A new Finnish study suggests gender plays a role in WHEN those musical bonds form. For men, the peak age is around 16. For women? It’s closer to 19. Researchers at the University of Jyväskylä found this 3-year gap across nearly 2,000 participants in 84 countries. The difference likely reflects how music fits into adolescence: Men often use music as a form of rebellion and to assert their independence, while women use it for emotional connection. As we age, those patterns diverge further: men tend to hold on to their teenage soundtracks, while women are more open to forming new musical ties, with each decade bringing new opportunities for songs to become meaningful to them.

BIG SCREEN-LITTLE SCREEN

Anthony Hopkins recently reflected on his sobriety, mental health, and career in a series of interviews. The 87-year-old traced his struggles to his father’s alcoholism and admitted therapy didn’t suit him. Though his wife suspects he’s autistic, the legendary actor dismissed those labels as “nonsense” and “fashion.” Hopkins admitted that as his “father’s son,” he often questioned whether there was “something not quite right” about the way his own mind worked. Hopkins’ remarks about mental health labels sparked mixed reactions online, with some claiming he is speaking from a place of “rich privilege.”

A reboot of “Bewitched” is in the works at Fox. Considered a TV classic that has influenced generations of viewers, the original Bewitched ran from 1964-72. The reimagined version will echo the original, centering on a couple from 2 different worlds. ‘Samantha’ is once again a witch, while ‘Darrin’ is a human. The reboot is described as heartfelt, putting a spotlight on what happens after love at first sight. The pair will have to deal with disapproving parents, along with cultural clashes, in order to bridge the gap between their different worlds and families.

DID YA KNOW!?

Did You Know... You Can Hear a Blue Whale’s Heartbeat from Over 2 Miles Away? The blue whale is the largest animal on the planet, and its heartbeat is just as massive. It’s so powerful that it can be detected from more than two miles away underwater. These gentle giants have hearts that weigh as much as a small car, and each beat pumps blood through their enormous bodies with incredible force.

SCOOP OF THE DAY

A London woman was fined £150 (US$197) for pouring part of a cup of coffee down a storm drain as she rushed to catch a bus, sparking debate about how to properly dispose of leftover coffee. Richmond Council later cancelled the fine, but the case raised awareness that storm drains lead directly to rivers, meaning only rainwater should go into them. Experts say coffee, especially in large amounts, can pollute waterways because caffeine and other compounds don’t break down easily and can harm aquatic life. Instead, they suggest composting coffee, using it as a diluted plant feed, or freezing leftovers for iced drinks. But whatever you do, apparently, you’d better not pour the stuff down the drain.

WEIRD NEWS

It’s the brand mashup you didn’t know you needed. In fact, it’s probably the brand mashup you didn’t need at all: Johnsonville has teamed up with Dr Pepper for a new twist on its classic cookout fare – Dr Pepper-flavored sausage. The sausages look like traditional links, but are infused with the soda’s signature blend of 23 flavors. Johnsonville calls it a “flavor-filled, first-of-its-kind” product meant to bring fun and togetherness to grilling season. The sausages will roll out next spring. Online reactions are split: some commentor are thrilled, while others are firmly in the “absolutely not” camp. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/3kbwvkea
