THIS WEEK'S DEAR JOHN LETTER!
Dear John,
I started dating my girlfriend 6 months ago. About two months into our relationship she lost her job. I let her move in with me to help out. She says she is applying for jobs, but she hasn't even gotten an interview. I've been paying my bills and helping her with some of her bills so she does not get behind. I also buy our food and make sure have heat and electricity. She bought a lottery ticket last week and won $2000. I asked her to pay me back for some of her bills I've paid. She wants to use this to buy Christmas presents for her family. They barely even talk to her. They're very upset that she is living with me. I'm actually thinking I need to ask her to move in with them. I'm pretty sure that would mean that we break up, but I am actually OK with that. I absolutely loved her six months ago, but these last few months I've seen a different side of her. It's not a great side. Do you think it would be wrong of me to break up and ask her to move out? I feel like the timing might be bad with Christmas next month.
Signed – Fed up Boyfriend.

SURVEYS, STUDIES & SUCH
A surprising new study suggests tattoos may play a role in lowering melanoma risk. Published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, the research found people with 2 or more tattoo sessions had a reduced risk of the deadly skin cancer, with risk dropping further as the number of tattoos increased. Four or more sessions was linked to a 56% lower risk, while 3 or more large tattoos cut risk by 74%. Researchers caution the results aren’t definitive. Factors like sun safety habits or immune responses could explain the effect. Researchers also found that getting a first tattoo before age 20 was associated with a significantly lower risk of melanoma.

Danny Masterson is blaming his trial attorney for mounting a poor defense as he seeks to overturn his rape conviction. Masterson, the former star of “That ’70s Show,” is serving a 30-year sentence after being convicted of 2 rape charges in 2023. In a petition filed Monday, his appellate lawyers blamed his trial attorney, Philip Cohen, for failing to call any witnesses and for not pushing back on prosecutors’ claims about Scientology.
The Critics’ Choice Association announced that comedian, TV host, and 7-time New York Times best-selling author Chelsea Handler will return as host of the 31st annual Critics’ Choice Awards, her 4th consecutive year. The star-studded show will once again be held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, honoring the best in cinematic, televised, and streaming achievement. Four new categories have been added: Best Variety Series, Best Stunt Design, Best Casting/Ensemble, and Best Sound.
“Saturday Night Live” has set its full December lineup. Josh O’Connor will host on December 13, with Lily Allen as musical guest. Ariana Grande will MC on December 20. The “Wicked” star will be joined on the Christmas show by Cher, making only her second appearance as a musical guest, and first in more than 35 years. She did, however, perform at “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” earlier this year. Melissa McCarthy, as announced during Saturday’s show, will host on December 6, with musical guest Dijon.
DID YA KNOW!?
Did You Know... Wombat Poop Is Cube-Shaped? Wombats, native to Australia, produce cube-shaped poop. This unusual shape helps prevent the poop from rolling away, allowing the wombat to mark its territory effectively. The shape is the result of the wombat’s highly efficient digestive system, which extracts as much water as possible from its food.

OF THE DAY
Feeling overwhelmed by nonstop notifications and digital demands? Experts say a growing wellness trend called an “invisible day” might be the reset you need. The idea is simple: unplug completely for 24 hours. That means no emails, texts, or social media…just let your mind and body rest. Therapist Barbara Guimaraes says the practice helps calm your nervous system and restore focus, while occupational therapist Nicole Villegas adds it can boost creativity and self-worth. The key is to plan ahead, set boundaries with loved ones, and fill your time with restful or playful activities. But experts caution it’s not for everyone – those suffering from burnout or depression may need more support before going fully off the grid.
“Microdramas” are emerging as the newest thing in video entertainment, offering ultra-short, mobile-first episodes…where having a coherent plot and production polish seem to take a backseat. Filmed vertically, like TikToks or Instagram Reels, these series cost around $200,000 each to make, and are split into approx. 2-minute installments. Viewers binge a few episodes before being nudged to download the app or make in-app purchases, kinda like the “freemium” gaming model. Popular in China as “duanju,” microdramas made $7 billion last year, more than the local box office. In the US, revenue reached $819 million in 2024, and is projected to hit $3.8 billion by 2030. With traditional films struggling at the box office, microdramas offer work for actors, writers, and AI-driven productions, though they remain far from award-worthy.

WEIRD NEWS
A cruise passenger was caught in a nerve-wracking moment when they became stuck in a water slide, dangling over the ocean. A 13-second TikTok video by @kaylamierzejewski, posted September 19, shows the passenger wriggling inside the transparent tube while trying to move forward. Another passenger can be heard exclaiming, “Oh my God, she’s literally stuck.” The clip quickly went viral, racking up over 7 million views and 238,000 likes, and was shared on other platforms. What exactly happened to the woman, and whether she was able to scoot her way to the bottom of the slide, is unclear. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/5xmxuxnf
